This is very bad, in cold war days, the US government planned somethin like 750 F-22s, and now they only have 182 (one crashed last month I think). Stop the production is a big mistake!

All we would have to do is cut the B-2 and the F-117 considering the F-22 can do both roles that those two aircraft play.

Unless of course there is something that makes them valuable from which we couldn't get rid of them.

You're right. The problem is that our leaders aren't patriots. Russia is heading back to its old ways, and with Sukhoi fighters that are better than the F-15, it's crazy not to continue producing more F-22s as a deterrent. Every patriot in America should volunteer to contribute some money in order to get a decent amount of F22s operational if the government refuses to help our own country.

This is dangerous ground we're on. The USAF has been behind the fighter curve since the mid-90's, and the F-22 is an exponential leap forward in capability we desperately need. With Russia exporting fighters such as the Su-30MMK and MiG-35 to potential enemies, not to mention the immense running cost of the B-2 and the F-117's retirement leaving us without a precision strike fighter, we have a lot riding on the F-22. Let's hope they make the right call.

The F-22 is the best air to air fighter in the current world, and Obama has decided to cut the program. Granted, it's never really been used so far, but in the world we're in today, World War 3 may not be far away. We should keep these things. Not saying we need to pump them out like crazy, but they can come in handy later on.

I agree with the statement at the end. Deficits in a recession are not necessarily a bad thing, and the military-industrial complex is a main stay of the American economy.

Building more fighter jets means more jobs; but then again, we could also use that money to build factories that produce alternative sources of energy; get off oil; and as a result, be less likely to have to go to war in the future. Or, we can stop the corporate hand-outs and do both.

The highest i've heard was 361 million when the air force dropped its purchase down to 80.

When the went back up to 180 it went down considerably.

The funny thing is, they were originally slated to build about 750 at a unit cost of about eighty million a piece. The more you drop the number purchased, the higher the price goes.
