  • i cant find the diff in the rear of most hondas/economy cars.. where are they hiding it?

  • @wakawu probably in the front in the transaxle I doubt there is even a rwd economy car out there

  • @billydudeiskewl it was a joke. way to blow it. he said in the video "this is differential that's present in the rear end of EVERY vehicle"

  • i need that exact carrier my spider gears chewed up

  • And why is the other wheel turning the other way?

  • When it locks the axles together, you wear your tires out. Can't beat a torson.

  • I wish he would of explained this diff like the turbo encabulator.

  • Eaton locker. all you had to say

  • great video thanks

  • so positrack is a LSD???

    i knew it!!!!!!!!!

    its not a locker

  • @paisa1990 this one does lock 1:40

  • @eaglesdood16 soooo this is locking diff?? not a lsd but if u cant lock the diff

at your own will then doesn't that make it a lsd because the locking is caused from loss of traction

  • do you have a video on the trick to installing the spider gears on this differential? can't seem to get them to line up properly .

  • do you have a video on the trick to installing the spider gears on this differential? can't seem to get them to line up properly .

  • a simple and clear demo, thanks!

  • lerlo-Not rear end of EVERY vehicle yeah, thank god for that, if they put that hunk of shit diff in every vehicle i would quit my hooby and get into motorcycles or boats or modle painting or whatever.

    fucck those stupid gov bomb!!!

  • For a much better explanation and view of the working parts, look at:

    double-u double-u double-u dot youtube dot com/watch?v=K4JhruinbWc&NR=1

"How a Differential Gear works (BEST Tutorial)"

  • @moproducer Yes, this is a GREAT tutorial!! The motorcycles in the beginning are part of the explanation for those of you who are like wtf?

  • Very helpful.

  • Not rear end of EVERY vehicle

  • @lerlo

    haha smart ass :P

  • Ford is bettr :P

  • Comment removed

  • @Evilguy5000 In your dreams

  • It looks cheap and small. I guess thats whar u get for a gm product.

  • can you tell me if there is an aftermarket kit consisting of this type of locking system that can be fitted to other makes of vehicle ,instead of fitting an expensive LSD ,cheers

  • just take an open diff and weld it and you have a locker, all you need to buy it more gear fluid to put back in, cheapest upgrade you can do for your truck. best of luck, this guys an idiot.

  • @adamslurch71 Welding a diff is great. If you never plan on driving it on a surface that doesn't allow slip again. It's a great way to wear through tires very fast and significantly increase your turning radius.

  • @adamslurch71

    lmao. you cant be serious.

  • @MK4vDubbin 100%, if you have a pure offroad vehicle not street legal, it works better then paying a few grand to get a locker that worth anything, hell if I had the money all my vehicles would have ABR Air Lockers.

  • @adamslurch71

It works better? No. Welding an axle is a hack way of locking the rear. Its unreliable and eventually will probably break. And you never mentioned a pure offroad vehicle. On road a welded rear is worthless. Any respectable offroad rig wouldnt have welded diffs anyways.

  • @MK4vDubbin Yea well you implied that I was talking about onroad vehicles, and offroad it all depends on your situation, if your broke but what to have a little fun and plan on changing everything as soon as you save up the money, by all means weld it and have a little fun. Its a to each their own, hell I have a truck that I welded the diff on just messing around and it has lasted 10 years without a problem.

  • booooring

  • thank u.

  • Grenade lock FTW! ;)

  • hmm nice try, but if you still struglle people, thsi video is absolutely brilliant

    watch?v=K4JhruinbWc&NR=1

  • g80

  • GM's 14 bolt is superior to the Dana model axles used in the Ford vehicles.

  • @KLoughreyProductions dude Dana's are some pretty tuff stuff with a good builder and a solid crush sleeve

  • I fully agree with you those 44's are really popular axle swaps for offroad rigs and there's a good reason with that, but for sheer strength right from the factory my vote is with the GM.

  • Id take an 8.8 over a GM axle

  • is there a differential in front wheel drive cars?

  • Yes at the front, and is sometimes moulded as part of the gear box.

  • @TruthBeyond so would there still be a differential at the rear too?

  • @ Kingkruel123

No there is no rear differential on front wheel drive vehicle. However an AWD or 4WD has a differential for each pair of wheels.

  • @kingkruel123: jes

  • Wow this is my teacher

  • Not just a differential, a limited slip one...

    Thanks alot

  • Hmmm, it was a good explanation but I still don't really understand, I really aught to as I'm trying to qualify as a Mechanical Engineer lol.

  • what dont you understand?

  • uhm...ya i dont would understand it if i dont know it already...(i know i missspelled anywhere in this text....=P...forgive me im not american not im interrestet so much in english...XD-->lazy)

  • is this a limited slip differential?? LSD?

  • yes. Its one one type of LSD though. There are plate style diffs..then more modern systems like electronic diffs which can lock electronically as part of a performance or vehicle stability package. Very trick stuff.

  • @SlimJ1992 Actually, that is an Eaton G80 locking differential. It acts like an open differential around corners and over about 15 mph. However, under 15 mph and if one tire spins roughly 100 rpms faster than the other, it "locks" the axles together using friction discs and mechanical leverage.

Where an LSD uses constant spring pressure, this unit keeps increasing clutch pressure until lock up (or carrier explosion, lol) happens.

    /watch?v=KbMZ9vcYVSg

  • @SlimJ1992 thats what limited slip is for

  • @SlimJ1992 Yes, it is =D

  • @SlimJ1992

Yep it is, title is wrong :)

  • @SlimJ1992 No, as you can see there weren't any seperate cams with the

    semi-axles.

  • @SlimJ1992 yes it is

  • @SlimJ1992 no thats not a lsd

  • @SlimJ1992 Well i think so, in normal differential theres no such situation that both axes lock doesnt matter what the situation is

  • @SlimJ1992 yes

  • exccellent explanation..thank you

  • Great explanation, thanks. Would like to see more.

  • oh my my that was...well that was just wonderful wish he cud handle my gears in such a way

  • can a lsd produce better performance than a std?

  • ford 8.8 trac lok is way better than gm posishit

  • ok, just got one question, when the car is off why when i put it in first gear the wheel spins different directions, when rotating the other wheel

  • if you look at what he does at 1:00

    he spins them opposite dirrection

when you turn one the other spins backwards

but they don't spin inside the whole assembly

the engine spins the assembly and so when you turn one wheel you are not spinning the whole assembly because its in gear so you would have to be spinning the engine asswell

  • wow good explanation but isnt he talking about an all wheel drive differential????

  • great video, now I know Exactly how it works :)

  • you fucking amateures.......not the guy in the video, the retards posting talking shit.....you can tell they're in high school and have no real experience- look at all of the immature comments and the "lol"s. you guys wish you knew how a differential worked- and don't say that you do because youve read books on them or looked at them on youtube. You would know how they worked if you were an actual mechanic and had schooling/real world EXPERIENCE, not TEXT BOOK BULLSHIT. grow up

  • im doing some automotive schooling and all i can say is im very confused on how differentials/final drives work. im just getting into diffs and it looks kinda complicated.

  • You should look up how Zexel-Gleison torsen (TORque SENsing/torque biasing) differentials work. Now that's complicated!

  • So text books don't teach you anything? Differentials are just magic? That's pretty awesome, I wanna be a mechanic now so I can be a wizard too.

  • The driveshaft never sees the crown gear, the pinion does and they are hypoid gears, not bevel. The differential isnt planetary either, FAIL

  • its a good vid otherwise though

  • So basically what you're saying is...you like dick.

  • but it has a differential at the front lol...OWNED

  • no it doesn't owned! front wheel drive's engines are mounted sideways, how did u think they work, the shaft comes out the back then theres a series of differentials to get to the front wheels? lol

  • i know its mounted sideways, and the trasmission is sorta beside it. i know its not like the differential on your rear end. but its sorta different...its all part of the axle and transmission assembly...if a fwd car didn't have a differential, how would the two wheels turn at different speeds?

your thinking that i thought the differential at the back is the same as the differential at the front. no, that's not what i meant.

  • ma quei cosi dietro cosa servono? per bloccare il differenziale?

  • planetary bevel gears?

    planetary double gears?

there called spider gears arent they

    or are both acceptable

  • Either is acceptable. One is a technical term, the other slang, but both are recognized by a competent mechanic.

  • Powertrax: search the 'Funcionamiento Powertrax' video on YouTube, a Powertrax has no clutches, it uses springs and 'dogtooth' gears to lock/unlock.

A GM Posi-Traction is similar to the G80 but has more clutch plates, bigger pre-load springs and no governor mechanism, only clutch 'slippage' unlocks it.

  • search: -How a Eaton G80 locker works- on YouTube, notice the same 'centrifugal governor' as seen at 1:10 in this video.

The G80 Gov-Lock is a factory option on GM light trucks.

  • *comment test*

  • so let me get this right, the rod connecting both axles together is about 1/4" thick? lol

  • GM 'Posi-Trac' has clutches, this is a GM 'Gov-Lock' diff

  • That is NOT a gov lock. it looks to b a aftermaket powertrax locker

  • wow i like enginering!!!

  • Wow maybe you should learn how to spell it!

  • No love for the grenade lock here! Good vid, though.

  • Ni puta idea

  • hand grenade (known as the grenade lock)

  • nice vid

  • p[p"

  • awesome one!!!

  • @chaitanya9187

Hey I got a suggestion for this movie: the title should be "How a limited slip differential works !!" :)

Nice movie. Never seen a LSD from inside with those weights before.
