@col50 all of that junk is a myth. You can get great drum sounds out of a stone walled, damp basement if you want to. It's a luxury, not even close to a necessity.
@DennyArcher I somewhat agree with you. Drums really only need a room to record though acoustic treatment can help a bit because it improves certain frequencies
@sodium57 57's aren't too bad for hats...if the placement is in the right spot, you won't get too much snare bleed on the hat track....not ideal, but not horrible..
@sodium57 Yah i never seen a 57 on a hat before on any studio i have been in. We always used 81s and put the 57 on the snare and mostly used sennheiser 421s on toms larger than 15'' and 57s on smaller toms. but i guess its all about personal preference and personal sound.
@smokelahoma1 Yes, Get a condenser microphone or a large diaphragm microphone and take it to a live Gig. Use some compression and maybe just maybe some eq if needed.
Don't expect studio quality but it will make a demo for the band.
As for studio use, No really unless you want to use it as a room mic but that won't sound good without close micing techniques. Send me a PM maybe I can help ya out with a cheap recording set up
@Onetruthrgv ok i kinda had a idea like i record the drumer first then the guitar second and bass thirds and just stack them together and level it out.would that work, cus i did record a band with just one mic at the same time when they where playing but it dont sound that good at all but it sounds do able
@OwensDrumming No Chiz Tommy Lee is a drummer, at the time this video was made, Tommy and some guess were doing the "Public Record" where Tommy sent out flat tracks with nothing special done to them, to the "Public" where they could do "anything" with the tracks and send them back in. He would later use these tracks on the record "A Public Disservice Anouncement"
LITTLE PRODUCER'S DESKTOP??? LOLOL I use a kitchen table, macbook and a sg to record :-) you have an entire professional amount of material :-) I envy you :-)
Ya, whats up with the 57 on thehi hat? Also, the 414's would be better (in my opinion) for the overheads. Not sm81's. 81 would be great for the hi hats.
I would like to hear the drum recording... And where's the 1 mic, or am I missing that?

How are you able to hear what your recording with the drums in the same room?i have a small studio in my home and would love to take out the wall between me and the musicians but still be able to hear what i am recording and not the live drums?
How do you record the drums in the same room as you?Is it not hard hearing the recorded drums when you are in the same room as the live drums.Do you place some sort of wall or isolation between you and the drummer?I have a small studio here in my house and have a wall between me and the musicians the problem is i would like to remove the wall bigger but i am worried about this problem.
fffffy you kididng me? you can use a cheap 5 $ mic if you know how to us eit right...its not rocket science.
