The Germans only did well in 1941 because they caught the USSR Completely Unprepared & Poorly Deployed to Retaliate (the Fault of Stalin, whom had purged the Officer corp in the late 30's of most of it's most skilled commanders).

Once again this proves that Nazi Germany, although far too wrapped up in the ideology of the war were actually at least several years ahead of the Allies technologically. What is obvious is the influence these designs had on early Cold War aircraft. While I do not agree with Nazi ideals, I have immense respect for Germany as a military power during the period. Now, do they make Airfix models of these?
@Wampa29 In some respects the Germans were years ahead, and some ways they were behind. At the start of the war they were behind in things like flying wings and jet engines. These technologies then exploded under the Germans during the war. Mostly out of desperation, since Hitler had squashed many of these ideas early in the war. The Germans were unique in their ability to create and develop these ideas so fast and well during the later half of the war.

All of these came from special order hobby shops and most are made in some European country. I have built a few of them. These kits are generally hard to work with, nothing in English, and poor quality injection methods. Once you get thru this they look great but do require LOTS of extra work.
I hope Wienerschnitzel issues model toy makes of these for kids so that children can see the awesome reverence of the fallen legendary German people of those very people of whom personify mankind - Germany shall always live on for eternity and Wienerschnitzel can further embrace and embellish this vision by giving Luftwaffe model planes with kid's meals. Because technology is not the only factor that matters. You got to deliver in sufficient quantity as well. Unfortunately for the Germans, their economy was so screwed up they could not build anything. Actually whatever they built was at the expense of everything else.. which is not a good way for doing things.
Some of these planes look like disasters waiting to happen though. Wait, a lot of them were disasters, the Me163 Komet was on average more dangerous to the pilot than its opponents, and many of these would have been also. Though, some of these were good ideas, especially their jets. The Mig15 is actually based on one of these fighters.

Once again this proves that Nazi Germany, although far too wrapped up in the ideology of the war were actually at least several years ahead of the Allies technologically. What is obvious is the influence these designs had on early Cold War aircraft. While I do not agree with Nazi ideals, I have immense respect for Germany as a military power during the period. Now, do they make Airfix models of these?

@Wampa29 In some respects the Germans were years ahead, and some ways they were behind. At the start of the war they were behind in things like flying wings and jet engines. These technologies then exploded under the Germans during the war. Mostly out of desperation, since Hitler had squashed many of these ideas early in the war. The Germans were unique in their ability to create and develop these ideas so fast and well during the later half of the war.

@Wampa29 Oh and as for the models. I have about 20 from different manufacturers of the oddest of German aircraft. Most come in 1:72, very few can be found in 1:48. All of these came from special order hobby shops and most are made in some European country. I have built a few of them. These kits are generally hard to work with, nothing in English, and poor quality injection methods. Once you get thru this they look great but do require LOTS of extra work.

The mere fact that germany produced so many varied and exotic technologies was a large part of why they failed. Wasted resources spent in useless ways. Most are going to fail. The NAZI germany lack some essential materials/minerals such as molybdenum, as well as the technologies and time to realize these fancy designes. For example, the engine used by Me-262 can only last around 70 hours. If not so desparate to change their fate near the end of war, no country will send such fighter planes to air. After war, US and USSR captured most of these designs. Only a few of them were further developed or taken idea from, such as the Ta-183.

@surefire1986 Germans scientists did develop an impressive range of technologies but that doesn't mean that German people in general are of "high[er] intelligence" than, say, Canadians or Koreans, for instance.

exactly what i think as well, there was more than one time proofed that the most "new" military developments after 1945 were just "ported* from germany to america and then released under the name of american scientists, but originally invented in germany.

There were a couple that actually flew in tests. However the flying wing ones didn't have enough fuel to return from a bombing run, it was a 1 way trip.
Some of them are still in existance but were damaged in bombings or destroyed by the Germans during the invasion.
A show on TV showed one of them thats in storage somewhere. Almost entirely made of wood for stealth.

@bilzyboy Most of these were just drawings, not even designs. Their effectivenes or even their feasibility is to be discused. The US had always a straighter aproach to engineering problems by building machines that were good and reliable in almost every aspect instead of something that was excellend on one aspect and a blunder on others.

Because technology is not the only factor that matters. You got to deliver in sufficient quantity as well. Unfortunately for the Germans, their economy was so screwed up they could not build anything. Actually whatever they built was at the expense of everything else.. which is not a good way for doing things.

Some of these planes look like disasters waiting to happen though. Wait, a lot of them were disasters, the Me163 Komet was on average more dangerous to the pilot than its opponents, and many of these would have been also. Though, some of these were good ideas, especially their jets. The Mig15 is actually based on one of these fighters.
