"Keep out of reach of children and beware of overdose" -- That line got me hooked two decades ago. Only GZA can even come close to this. It's truly art.
THESE NIGGAS NOWADAYS WISH THEY COULD PUT TOGETHER THE IMAGES RAKIM PRESENTS THROUGH HIS WORDS . HIS LEVEL OF LYRICISM WILL NEVER BE MATCHED.............EVER...
"Attention: follow directions real close Keep out of reach of children Beware of overdose Too many milligram But what made a iller jam My rhyme is the rhythm of thoughts That kill a man I deas for the ear to fear Might split 'im He'll never forget 'im He'll rest in peace wit' 'em At least when he left he'll know what hit 'im The last breath of the words of death Was the rhythm." RAKIM=GOD. Untouchable brother.

Damn!!! This brother had it locked - still does! Nas, how you feeling? Really, no cat can step to Rakim - never will. It's his internal ryhmes, metaphores, similies, FLOW...ah, mane, it's enough for any humble MC to say: "Fuck it, leave it to the God... I'll just Rap in my living room on the weekend.
Rakim was born 20 years too early. He would have been an absolute superstar if his career started in '06 instead of '86. But then again, would he have been considered as groundbreaking if that were the case? There would have been more MCs to compare him to, I guess. But even today, he's beyond compare. It just really pisses me off that most of the great MCs were in their prime before hip hop was commercially popular.

@ct0386 compared to rakim ( &many others, krs, monch, r.a. , vakill, celph, etc. ) lili gaynus is... a pile a toenail clippings left in an alley, pissed on by a stray cat & shit on by a crack ho. same goes for t.i. , akon, wack eyed cheeze, drake da fake, all that sissy, corporate, empty-v, top 40, dancefloor, club, party shit.
@easternhero255 the same people who say this "Rap is just crap without the C" but most who say that are emo losers tho >.> i mean i guess i would think everything is crap if i listened to people bitch all the times in songs
something. It seems to have lost it's heart and it's sad to me because i think that hip hop can be an extremley powerful podium to bring to light real problems and issues. I hope tupac was right was he said i can't make the world different but i promise i will spark the brain that will change the world. If you are lookin for an MC who says real shit check out quan on youtube he was in NAS' just a moment. he's got a couple of videos on here that are a refreshing outlook on the rap game
Rakim is ONE of the greatest mc's of all time. There are 2 many great mc's 2 fairly name a number one of all time because they all bring something to the table. Tupacs in you're face yet culturally sensitive lyrical content. Biggies ability to be able to paint a picture with his rhymes. KRS' rawness. I own every Nas album and will never get tired of listening to them. Common's smooth melodic delivery. Today's rap is entertainment based not substanced based and it is what it is but its missing

I have yet to see any rapper catch up to Rakim's cadence, not just on this song but on countless albums, and I have no idea how Eric B chopped things up to match anything Rakim spit. But I do know this ......there can never be another Eric B & Rakim
I only watched this because Justin Broadrick sampled the beat for a Godflesh song called Pure. This ere is a damn fine hip hop tune though. Love Rakims flow over that wicked beat!
the main complaint isnt lack of variety its lack of quality
and weezydrake what are you doin on anouther rakim song?! shouldnt you be watching the new twilight trailer? i'm assuming your a 12 year old white girl.........
I'm a big fan of old school and classics like Rakim and Nas but I'm mad ppl totally diss da new school tho and give no credit to any of the few artists that accually do make good music like Lupe and such. If you listened to some of waynes stuff a few years ago u gotta agree he had some nice metaphors. But lately Wayne has been on some gay shit tho. and Drake has some pretty nice lines tho yes he is a sell out. I agree gucci and soulja sucks but dont act like the new school aint got shit
rakim and wayne is a generation conflict...the same goes with 90's vs new modern stuff...and now theres this problem: taste and thats always different..but to me the old rap is the truth itself...i cant appreciate the stuff which is on da tv and radio..its not positive anymore its brain destruction i cant even describe it maybe its FUN rap or whateva but how can you build up on FUN crap? i mean its not the way it should be...
Attention - Follow Directions Real Close - "Keep Out The Reach Of Children" - Beware of a Overdose..... @ct0386 , oh give it a rest why don't ya? LOL, we've heard wayne since being with the hot boyz back in 97 then his debut in 99, the big break up of cash money up until now! how can you possibly say hes really good? we've heard his mixtapes sorry the guy sucks, not to mention he had gillie da kid ghostwriting for him explains why the way he flows & spits now compared to how he was on the carter 1 & 2 is much different! wayne has no "real" shit! except realy shitty rhymes LMAO!

@ct0386 compared to rakim ( &many others, krs, monch, r.a. , vakill, celph, etc. ) lili gaynus is... a pile a toenail clippings left in an alley, pissed on by a stray cat & shit on by a crack ho. same goes for t.i. , akon, wack eyed cheeze, drake da fake, all that sissy, corporate, empty-v, top 40, dancefloor, club, party shit.

I agree gucci and soulja sucks but dont act like the new school aint got shit

melodies-unmakable, patterns-unescapable,
I haunt if want the style I possess ,
I bless the child, the earth, the gods and bomb the rest..

@madboxing : I think he says "Why try to bomb me..."...I feel you on RAKIM's finesse, but in this case the lyrics are justs a lil off.

haven't heard this for a while...no matter who came first or last, you still can't front on Rakim's skills...or top it.
Conduit13C 1 year ago
rakim and wayne is a generation conflict...the same goes with 90's vs new modern stuff...and now theres this problem: taste and thats always different..but to me the old rap is the truth itself...i cant appreciate the stuff which is on da tv and radio..its not positive anymore its brain destruction i cant even describe it maybe its FUN rap or whateva but how can you build up on FUN crap? i mean its not the way it should be...
