  • what is the approach speed of this aircraft?

  • YEAP full of bell and whistles

  • This airplane has a strange suite of audio warnings. I'm guessing the clicker @ 1:08 is an auto-throttle or autopilot disconnect. What is the siren noise at touchdown for?

  • @launchsa a landing is a controlled stall. Get into a real plane and listen to the stall warning during the touchdown.

  • Wonderful and original airplane !!!

  • Every now and then I get the pleasure of hearing these bad boys on approach to LAS. Engines are so f**king beautiful!!!!!!

  • No such thing as a bad landing if in one piece. a pilot should know that. Unless you are a fsx kid, then hop off.

  • 1:22 Stalling on landing 1:36 Ouch!! Bad Landing!

  • @launchsa

Stick to FSX, you fucking n00b.

  • @launchsa Your supposed to stall on landing....learn your shit!

  • @TimeLapseWorld You should be talking to one of the instructors at your airline about this. You don't need to mention any specific captain names, but ask them about this technique. If it is a recurring problem then it needs to be brought up during recurrent ground training and perhaps even sim sessions where they point out to pilots why they should not be doing this.

  • Since a stall warning is rather important, I suspect that it's annoying on purpose.

  • Thats a REALLY annoying Stall horn

  • Damn that was rough. hehe.

  • That plane makes a lot of distracting and annoying sounds at a critical time when the pilots are landing. Why not just a regular altitude call like the airliners have?

  • I like that stall warning haha!

  • Sounded as though the pilot thought he touched down a bit hard by saying, "ouch". Nice job.

  • Is this the same one that buzzes Little Elm every few days?

  • @VWdriver it may not be this specific one, but there are a lot of piaggios that fly in and out of Denton, so it probably is a P-180 that you're hearing. The engines have a very distinctive sound.

  • i see you guys sometimes, i'm doing my training in DTO. great video !

  • amazing plane

  • They picked up a woodpecker at 1:10 min

  • @ismasamov55 :D

  • Question: How strong is the P-factor on the Avanti 180?

  • Very nice landing. I just loved the stall warning jaja. so funny. anyway, beautiful airplane. cheers

  • @Cook1993 yep and thats why they save lives..they get your attention!

  • agree

  • lol the nose wheel has a squawt switch hahaha

  • Coytoes? Plane spotters will wear anything to get a good shot!

  • @@pdutube:

Guess I was asleep at the keyboard. Saw your response, but didn't get it until now. Plane spotters dressed in coyote costumes?? Aviation paparazzis taken to a new level!!

    LOLOLZ!!

  • cruises faster than some jets

  • Iv seen one fly over and it does have that distinctive sound. But at some six million a piece its not cheap is it? But then its supposed to compete with jets that costs perhaps 10 to 12 million? Thats what I gathered anyway. IS that correct?

It does seem like a very capable plane. IS it stable? How is it in turbulence?

  • @badboyblue99 Very stable aircraft, because of the three lifting surfaces configuration, turbulence is reduced considerably. The only unstable portion of flight is engine failure on take-off, while the autofeather system has failed, wich is very unlikely...

  • 2badboyblue99: In reality, the jets that the P180 competes against don't run quite that much.

Think in terms of the Cessna Slotation II or the newer CJ2+, or a Beech Premier.

IIRC, the CJ2+ actually runs a bit less than the P180 Avanti II, and in reality, in good conditions, it slightly outperforms the P180 in terms of airspeed and rate of climb.

The P180 Avanti II does offer a much more spacious and comfortable cabin, is much quieter and relaxing, and about 35% - 40% more fuel efficient.

  • seems like an awesome plane to fly and to be a passenger in.

  • I've never had the pleasure of piloting one of these magnificent birds, but I have flown as a passenger, as well as having had the opportunities to speak to flight crews.

I've flown in the KingAir B200's, Slowtaion II, LearJet35A, Hawkers, and, of course, the P180.

As a passenger, the P180 is most enjoyable. Very quiet & roomy. I'm just under 6' tall, so it isn't technically as "stand up" cabin, but it beats having to stoop & hunch down like you do in the Slowtations, or the Lear35A.

  • There is NO comparison between the KA B200 and the Avanti. The KS B200 is cramped and loud. Not at all relaxing. With the Avanti I & II, half the fun really is getting to your destination.

I must confess that I do have a certain love for the Lear35A. Yes, compared to the Avanti, it's cramped, and baggage access is a pain if you are stopping off to p/u other passengers, and it's wet & cold outside.

While it isn't exactly quiet, the hum of those Garret Engines on the LJ35A really appeals to me.

  • great plane but a bit expensive . How high can it go? Max cruise?

  • Ceiling is 41,000 ft., lightly loaded on a cool day. Max. cruise is 402kts @ FL310, but again, that is lightly loaded, no wind, in optimal conditions.

On a hotter than normal day, FL350 and loaded, cruise at 365 - 370kts. TAS (420 - 425 MPH) with a fuel burn of +/- 600PPH (+/-88GPH) is more realistic. If you can make FL410, (cool day, lightly loaded, no winds)) +/- 330KTS (+/- 380 MPH) with a fuel burn of just 450 PPH (+/- 66GPH) is attainable.

  • @Outlaw1257 I would have to agree, at maximum weight, we can sometimes manage to get as high as FL360, usually after we picked some speed at lower levels...

  • You don't know what your are talking about, NotsoPerfectpilot. Go fly your little FSX toy.

BTW, there's no need for foul language here. You have only succeeded in demonstrating your ignorance and immaturity. Grow up!!

  • hey he has the right too say what thinks about the design... It's like not liking a color... or a car...

  • Notsoperfectpilot does, as you say, have the right to speak his mind....... albeit with a voice of ignorance. Still, there are young people who view this, and the vulgar language only serves to cheapen the thread.

  • I totally agree with you on this point. :D

  • Had to get out of the way of one of these today, it was going almost 4 times faster than I was. Great looking airplane but did you really need to block my parking spot? :)

  • You hung a wheelie down the whole Rwy!

  • is that the stallsound at the end?

  • yes it is

  • but the sound stopped when the frontwheel came to the ground

  • @agvap From the way the X-Plane software developer described it on his web site, I expected something different. The actual sound is hilarious.

    x-plane.com/adventures/50_avanti.html

  • @agvap When you're 2 feet off the ground, you can stall it if you need to to get to the ground.

  • my dads freind flys those commercially

  • it goes 400 mph cruising speed

  • How is range this aircraft ??

  • about 1600 miles

  • There is a two coyotes one moved to the west and the other one looking at us LOL

  • do they still make these planes?

  • very much so! It is a fairly new design. It is the fastest turbo prop in the world.

  • yeah i knew that but i didn't know the age of the design thnx

  • It's very fast, but not the fastest turboprop in the world, that belongs to the Russian 4 engine bomber the "Bear".

  • @chadw1ck223 its the fastest private turbo prop, the tupelov is quicker and so is the douglas a2d fighter plane :)

  • @chadw1ck223 Actually the Tupolev Tu-95 Bear is the fastest turbo-prop above 10,000 feet. The fastest turbo-prop under 10,000 feet is the Lockheed P-3C Orion. Biz-jet wise yes, the P.180 is the fastest haha couldn't help it

  • They not only make them, Piaggio's waiting list is getting longer by the day!!

  • I was happy to read that - they had firm orders for 70 when they launched the Avanti II (which this is, correct?) Amazing aircraft, but I wish they'd change the GPWS sounds.

I love the square wave sound they make - I can pick them out at cruising altitude! It's funny actually, I think it's the only AC out there what I can 100% ID from the ground without even looking.

  • @simon199418 They make about of these a month, I make the A/C for them at Addison airport.

  • to : NOTHOTUGLY ,please read again your training books since you state that T tails drop their nose when power is reduce ?????

as far as i know they DON"T, or at least not as much as conventional tail planes does, thanx

  • The reason that a conventional tail plane's pitch lowers when reducing power is because of the reduced down wash on the elevator. While the wings produce upward lift, the elevator produces downward lift to maintain normal operating attitudes.

  • Training wing!

  • Thank for a really decent video of this aircraft! Thanks for not ruining it with other audio sounds. ;)

  • no no it's cool. if they're not canards, they're not canards. but you know, it's sort of a general term to me...kind of like kleenex, not every facial tissue is a kleenex..some type of horizontal stabilizers in the front...i just usually like them....anyways i'm curious what they're really called though.

  • Canard is NOT the correct term, for the reason "Notsougly" correctly stated; the foreword lifting surface does not move.

    The CORRECT term is

    "ThatFunkeyLookingWingThatLooksLikeACanardButItIsntReallyACanard".

THAT is the technically proper term!!

    DUUUHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  • that may be technically correct, but to me, if it has stabilizers in front to allow the main wing to hang back a bit, they're canards.

what would be the technically correct name for them if they dont have control surfaces?

  • awsome vid..you can feel it

    =o]

  • Great fun. Thank you.

  • i love canard planes and pusher props.

there's a cheap R/C plane similar to the Avanti's design (t tail, pusher props, high wing, canards, a bit different on dimensions though) by Air Hogs for 30$, called the "Acro-Jet". wal-mart, target, toys r us has it.

it's not so 'acro' (long time to turn compared to other planes of the same brand), but it's cool looking, glides well.

  • I've seen some really neat vids of the P180 charging down the runway and taking off. (vids. taken of the aircraft)

It sure would be nice to see some vids of these planes on approach, flaring out, and touching down!! (vids of the aircraft itself, although the cockpit vids are nice, too!!)

  • Same here. Until we own one or two of these ourselves there's a download for FSX online. It's the first model so I had to tweak it to make it cruise like an Avanti II. xD

  • Looks kind of like the nose gear came down a little bit hard there!!

(As if I could have done any better??) ;=)

Sure wouldn't mind having Capt. Arther St. Claire's job!!

  • A couple of seconds after the nose came down you can hear someone say, "Ouch."

  • Kelwayne21:

After listening more closely, I heard the same thing. right at the end of the vid, someone said "I screwed you up".

Still, I can't claim that I could do any better.

The P180 is one incredible flying machine.

    Sommmme Day!! ;=)

  • The piercing "siren" sound is the stall warning system, which is activated as the aircraft flares out during touchdown; all perfectly normal.

  • What are the audible alarms?
