Booth broke all 3, Richards was going to hit him anyways, but once Booth drops the puck, and looks back at his pass, he completely changes his orientation and there's no way Richards could react to that, it happens way too fast. All Richards did was finish his hit, it wasn't his fault.

If you consider Booth is looking straight up ice (he was) and consider that as 90 degrees, Richards comes from about -10 or 350 degrees and up to about 5 degrees a split second before. Humans have a nearly 180 degree field of vision, so even with your head up you cannot see a hit coming from directly across or behind yourself. It's literally impossible.

especially going across the middle, you should never keep your head down. Briere got hit a lot harder against boston in this years playoffs but looked up at the last second and braced himself for the hit.....

Booth broke all 3, Richards was going to hit him anyways, but once Booth drops the puck, and looks back at his pass, he completely changes his orientation and there's no way Richards could react to that, it happens way too fast. All Richards did was finish his hit, it wasn't his fault.

I know how hard it is to throw a perfect hit. When you start throwing hits, it's always messy. Everything happens so fast, sometimes you hit the head even if you didn't want to. That's life. Don't dip low when you cut through the middle because you're begging head shot, even if it's with the shoulder... Now, Richards never backs away from a fight, even if he loses or ties most. He is one of the best captains in the league, and he is one of the best all-around players, not a "cheap shot artist" because Booth had his head down in the trolleys...

Richards came from across and behind, and if you watch Booth DOES have his head up. Booth also wasn't crouched low or anything, and he's not a small guy (6'); I don't think this was Richard's intention, but it's playing carelessly.

If you consider Booth is looking straight up ice (he was) and consider that as 90 degrees, Richards comes from about -10 or 350 degrees and up to about 5 degrees a split second before. Humans have a nearly 180 degree field of vision, so even with your head up you cannot see a hit coming from directly across or behind yourself. It's literally impossible.
