to distinguish voice type one must actually hear the voice live...ie.helden is a combination of both timbre and size, a helden tenor is someone who can comfortably be heard above a wagnerian orchestra which will almost always be larger than a verdi or puccini orchestra. so to try and determine from a clip here on you tube is really not possible..however just from a listen here i would call him a lirico/spinto..
I think helden is more attached like a concept inreference to Wagner singers than a type of voice. Of course Wagner Tenor heroes must have big middle vocies but many tenors in the history of opera has big voices but bever sung Wagner. I belive Helden Tenor is to describe a tenor who can sing Wagner without effort and spinto or dramatic is for other composers. ¿Could be?
Check him out on Solti's Mahler's 8th. Kollo's singing of "Jungfrau" is rapturously, ethereally beautifulsends chills up my sign even after 30 yearscan't get enough of it
I agree about Kollo. I you want to hear something wonderful, check out the Karajan "Meistersinger" that was recorded around 1970. Kollo is the best Walther I've ever heard! It's on EMI.
Also he and Carol Neblett do the only "Die Totd Stadt" I think has been recorded...lots of operetta too.
