  • 1897 lol

  • Absolutely fantastic band...

    Jethro Tull, not Metallica.

  • Honestly, you could make a strong argument that Nothing's Shocking should have won this award. That's commonly seen as Jane's Addiction's best album.

  • @TheRover00 what adick you are?!?

Jethro Tull wins grammy for best metal album in 1897''?????

    at least a century ago...

  • 1897?

  • Even though Jethro Tull is the best band by far, "Crest of a Knave" is an awful album, while :"...And Justice for All" isn't, BTW this song isn't from the album, but it's on normal speed.

  • lol uh this isnt metal...

  • HAHAHA wat the fuck is this????? I stumbled upon this and LOLD tremendously. <3 tull.

  • Anyone who doesn't think Jethro Tull isn't hard rock, doesn't know them very well. Their music ran the gambit and they were very versatile. The majority of songs that people hear are the slower more soothing and melodic songs they did. As far as hair bands go The Scorpions deserved an award FAR before Metallica. If you ask me Metallica are just a bunch of whiny punks. I won't even pirate their music. Where was Ratt and Night Ranger on that list?! F*** Metallica.

  • yea but Jethro Tull Is Progressive Folk not Hard Rock or Metal

  • @crashkiller24 The album is hard rock though

  • Man and people say Metallica is heavy, I'd like to see Metallica play as fast as Jethro Tull.

  • why is there a 1970 video of jethro tull ?? they wins the grammy in 1988... ¬¬

  • This was definitely a make up award. listen to Aqualung or Thick As a Brick. They may not be hard rock by today's standards but that was as heavy as music got in 1972. And those are great records. The Grammys didn't have a Hard Rock catagory back in the early 70s. They're just doing right by people they dissed back in the day. The Oscars do it all the time.

  • Fucken ridiculous.Jethro tull my ass

  • Craptallica sucks. Megadeth and Jethro Tull are both a billion times better.

  • It's not even about music taste at this point...its really about the fact that the judges didn't (and still dont) know anything about modern music

  • i dont think heavy metal was played in 1897

  • they got so angry they needed therapy! haha!

  • i got into jethro tull because i'm an iron maiden fan. i saw steve harris wearing a crest of a knave shirt.. i saw dave murray wearing a jethro tull shirt. iron maiden covered cross eyed mary. bruce dickinson emulated ian's standing on one leg during out of the silent planet intro. i'd read one of steve harris' favorite songs was a new day yesterday. iron maiden has RESPECT for tull. metallica cried like babies over a stupid award. disrespectful cry babies!

  • The fact that you can call a band with a flute player as the lead guy "Hard Rock" is sad.

  • @mostaryankidyouknow the fact that they sat around and cried in their movie some kind of monster is sad. crying is sad! i felt sad for metallica watching them cry over jethro tull, over napster, and over themselves! at least jethro tull never sat around crying all the time..

  • @mostaryankidyouknow The fact that idiots like you can still post comments like that is extremely sad.

  • @torker24 Don't get me wrong, Jethro Tull is okay. I'm not a fan. But they just aren't "Hard Rock". They didn't deserve the award.

  • @mostaryankidyouknow Maybe it was decided that Jethro Tull should win this award more to honor their previous work, rather than for best metal album. It's more as a recognition of what they've done, kind of like the Academy Award for Jack Palance.

  • @mostaryankidyouknow The flute is a Heavy Metal instrument. Just like the harmonica is.

  • And Justice For All is far better than anything Jethro could make, they're not even Hard Rock...they're more or less Folk music.

  • @MrZerostr in my OPINION, and justice for all was kind of bland. certainly better than anything after that. no where near as good as anything before. so what makes and justice for all better than anything jethro tull made? guess you heard everything tull played, apparently, to make that statement. i never heard dio cover metallica. dio covered aqualung the same year it came out. search for elf aqualung. i wonder if dio knew he wasnt covering hard rock? your statements are SOLEY based on OPINION.

  • @MrZerostr I'd take the weakest Folk album over anything Metallica's shat out since Ride the Lightning.

  • they are playing from 1968....its ok

  • Well Metallica won the Grammy in 1991 FOR A TRACK ON A COMPILATION over Judas Priest's Painkiller. So swings and roundabouts.....

Hell the Best Metal Performance category was pretty much invented SOLELY to pander to all the Metallica Fans that complained that one of the most poorly mixed metal albums of all time was beaten by something interesting :P

  • Not a surprise that Tull wouldn't be at the Grammys.

  • AAAAAAQQUAALUNG!!

  • Lars Ulrich is a fag.

  • I really wish Tull had won a Grammy for one of their better albums. They're an incredible band, but to be honest Crest of a Knave really pales in comparison to some of their best work (i.e. Aqualung and Thick as a Brick).

  • The big difference between jethro tull and metallica is that Jethro tull created music...one of the most infuential bands ever....Metallica was a decent band with a couple of good songs for kids but nothing much in general...you cant compare them actually...different culture, british artists created most kinds of modern music and this reflects.....

  • @koilakanthos your offle. dont ever talk about stuff you dont know about.

  • @jackbomeit2

accept the truth and move on...

  • @jackbomeit2 Not only is he right but I'm also sure he knows how to spell "awful", something you clearly don't, and I'll bet he knows that the correct word to use in that statement is "you're" instead of "your" as well.

  • @koilakanthos That is not accurate at all. Jethro Tull was simply a band that put out an album from the generation of most Grammy judges. Grammy awards always have awarded the album to the more mature, safe choice. Metallica was the radio-less thrash metal group who many people did not appreciate their music. Jethro Tull is no better than Metallica, and vise versa. The Grammy does not "reflect" any actual ifluences, or quality of music. It is simply a beauty/popularity contest.

  • @BSUOSUlover You want to reply to @RevoltOfAges not me....

  • @koilakanthos I meant to reply to you.

  • @BSUOSUlover I never used the word Grammys in my posts, so if your answer is addressed to me the it is simply out of context and totaly incoherent....

Metallica...One of the first Corpotate Bands to sue Napster and effectively close it down....Groups like Metallica led the global music industry to the mess it is today..Fast food bands with the "fuck you" attitude and the alternative heavy metal look pfff...You want to talk about real heavy metal bands? lets talk about Iron Maiden....

  • @koilakanthos You never said the word Grammys, true. But read the last line of your comment, it is quite obvious what you are referring to. And please, that is just an ignorant statement right there. I assure you, I have listened to more metal than you ever have, but that doesn't mean that I don't find Metallica's first 4 albums (...AJFA) are thrash masterpieces in their purest forms. Metallica is a thrash band, not alt. They will be remembered for thrash, except for people like you.

  • @BSUOSUlover

Metallica unlike Manowar or Motorhead quickly discovered how to be sell outs in order to make good corporate money. Simple as that...they became buisness men...In the beginning, they encouraged people to copy, bootleg, and trade their material for purposed of exposure. Then years later they were suing people for doing the digital equivalent how hypocritic is that?.They started out with the most hardcore, innovative sound, then went to sounding like Soundgarden....

  • @BSUOSUlover And Justice For All is a watered-down, radio-Thrash piece of shit.

Metallica will be remembered as the band who kicked ass once upon a time, and then killed themselves by selling out, making a ton of shitty music, and becoming a clothing brand more than band.

As well as only have 3 good albums out of what? 9 total?

That doesn't make a band respectable in anyway. No matter who they are.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow ...And Justice For All is a masterpiece in its own right. If you don't appreciate it, that's your decision. How is it commercial at all? It is their angriest, and darkest album they have ever released. The only popular song from the album is One, and even then it is popular for it's incredible guitars and dark lyrics, NOT its catchiness. Personally, I think Metallica has released 6 very solid albums, 4 of them being absolute classics in the metal genre.

  • in 1897... really? (sarcasm)

  • alice cooper rules

  • What utter crap. Even the embrionic Tull put to double speed are better musicians than Metallica will ever be.

And you still have to whine about the Grammy? Pitiful.

By the way, Anderson always hated hippies and drugs.

  • 1:06 alice knows jethro tull being on the list is bullshit

  • this was of course very funny! but Crest of a Knave is a good album & they didn't have separate Grammys for hard rock & heavy metal in 1988.

  • @MolesMalone Idiot.
