I have this radio stock and they do not put out 30 watts PEP i would say between 12 and 18 fm-ssb yes you can turn the SSB ALC up and you can adjust the AM swing but not ith PCB's the best mod for these are turn the VR in the mic up to full mic gain at 3/4 and a zetagi power reducer on half and get a good linear because face it yes you can hit across the world on 12 watts but i no nobody who does we all use around 150w PEP but great radio make sure you have the one with the built in compressor
when i was l;ving in vegas , a friend said they would transmit to the person that was the deepest in mexico. he was given a message for his mother from my friend..the person would transmit and HE would forward the message until the friends message was delivered to his mother by the person who knew the town etc. there are several groups who do this to communicate to mexican people who are in remote places with no phone ..
im sorry to say,i have had lincoln and 257(albrecht 385s)and this radios ARE BETTER...only look to buy 25watt version..it is the one with heat sink on the back...

yeah mine has the heat sink and you do need one as they do get a tadd warm

well.... I am not using full power on ssb, but you are wright - radiatior is getting warmer with long tx. `73
