Here is another way to do it. Glue the mode switch in the position you want it in. Then put a switch in the battery line (red wire). I would use silicon rubber (RTV) as a glue so you could remove it later if you want... Internally wiring to one position does not mechanically prevent the switch from being switched to the other position and causing damage to the unit. Zzzzzt!

Why physically remove the switch?. Couldn't you solder the switch connections together to hardwire it to whichever position you wanted ?
