Mariah's vocal chords are naturally vulnerable, in the period btween 96-98 she went through a divorce, razzie award,...which caused a breakdown for her mentally physically. She needs to stay happy, rested and healthy to be able to sing like this. In 2008, she miscarried and lost sleep again, if you see her performances in 2008, she looked tired and sounded bad.
