May 20th, 2010 ... Because Satire is older than Islam.
I think dawah and tf00t both misunderstood each other completely.I would like to see them have a good ol chat. I'm not sure what drawing tf00t will accomplish though seems somewhat pointless to me. Maybe you can clarify WhiteDragon103.
@AMP3G The purpose was to prevent idol worship amongst so-called atheist freethinkers. Generally the penalty for criticizing an idol, even one like thunderf00t worshiped by atheists, is hate speech, false flagging, death threats - the very thing the atheist community claims to be against. I've dealt with these things from atheist supporters in the past, it's very real, and very hypocritical. This is the point. Not even thunderf00t is safe from criticism.
@WhiteDragon103 I generally like tf00ts vids but I'm not a big fan of his latest debacle with dawah. You are correct though that there are atheists who will believe dogmatically what their "idols" say, just the same as some Christians, Jews or Muslims would. All groups of people or communities have their "sheeple" who cannot think for themselves. I just hope you don't think all atheists are like this (I am one of them). Thanks for the clarification.
Reminds me of "The Great Desacration" by PY Myers. He desecrated at the same time a) A consecrated host b) the Qu'ran and c) A copy of "The God Delusion".
Guess what: No death threats by angry atheists :)
And I sure hope Thunderf00t won't kill me when I draw him :D :D
LOL, Whitedragon, I guess tf00t's fanboys are demonstrating that, they too, dont like their prophet being mocked. Anyone who can "thumb up" "Draw Muhammad Day" and then "thumb down" this video have demonstrated total hypocrisy. Also, it demonstrates that, maybe, "Draw Muhammad Day" is ment to genuinely direct hate towards muslims rather than standing up for freedom of speech. Im skipping May 20 and going straight for May 21. Awesome drawings, by the way.
um. no. I actually said I would join the draw TF event. just that my drawing might not be what you had in mind.. and I also voiced quite clear its well within their right. and NOT liking something is NOT hypocrisy. KKK is protected under freespeech, do you like KKK? just because they have to right to do so, doesn't mean I have to like it. you and witedragon both... fail to understand free speech.
you know there is a difference between free speech and forcing someone to tell the truth right? .... free speech means if the nazis do ask.. you are FREE to say what you want. ..... oh.. the point to draw Mohammad is because people are getting death threats for doing so, and those that do so put their life in line to defend free speech. what does drawing TF possibly achieve? no one is stoping you.. or even try. so go ahead =) in fact I might join the event. TF kicking your ass.
@ccaptorchen The purpose was to prevent idol worship amongst so-called atheist freethinkers. Not even thunderf00t is safe from criticism.
lol. I don't think anyone build a church for TF just yet. and I would be against any death threats. but still.. your comic fail the understand what free speech means. you are not force to tell the truth about Jews in your attic. you are ABSOLUTELY should be protected by law to saw what you want. there is good criticism.. then there is strawmen, yours is the latter. but.. hey.. feel free to.. its your right. at least no one will stab /shoot you while you bike to work for it
that word is tossed around more often than the word "racist". It's not a strawman. If free speech is truly absolute then it permits people to pass along any information, opinion, expression of hatred, motivation for genocide, and, in this case, the hiding places of innocent people who are being targeted by violent fundamentalists.
freespeech is NOT forcing someone to say the truth. (which is what your comics depicts, someone hiding the jew prob won't out himself, unless he is force to) a false argument you are targeting.. definition of strawman. but lets move on. KKK rally is still protected by law, i don't like it, but its free speech. as soon as you censor something.. you can't call it "free speech" anymore can you?.. by definition its absolute.
Absolute forbidding of lying mandates that one must tell the Nazis the truth about where the Jews are hiding. Thunderf00t used this example to explain why you cannot impose moral absolutes - you must always think for yourself on a case by case basis whether or not you should follow or break a given rule.
Absolute free speech mandates that if someone wants to tell the Nazis where the Jews are hiding, he can and will. Likewise, this cannot be held as absolute. Greater good at stake.
@ccaptorchen (Second pt.) There is no difference between any two moral absolutes, be it absolute free speech or absolute forbidding of lying. There will always be scenarios in which it would be best overall to break given absolute for the greater good. If thunderf00t accepts one absolute and rejects another then he is hypocrite. This criticism applies equally to all absolutes, even the ones he may agree with.
truth absolute is not the same as free speech absolute. free speech absolute does not forbid lying...
free speech absolute means no one can stop him from saying HE ISN'T hiding the Jews.
and yes .. free speech also will mandate if someone wants to tell the nazis where the Jews are hiding. he can and will.
for example revolutionmuslim gave southpark creator's address are, and tell them what to do with them. ( kill them) . and by we can't stop the website due to freespeech
@ccaptorchen Just to make sure you understand. Thunderfoot does not accept the absolute, "thou shalt not lie", because in some cases it will be greatly better to lie. (Nazi Jew example.) This exact same criticism can be applied to an absolute he does accept, however. Therefore, he is hypocritical.
Hypocrisy: "The hypocrite thinks that what he usually professes does not somehow apply to him." -Wikipedia
the absolute he does accept does not say all speech is good, just free. it doesn't apply due to the fact that its not the same thing. I know what you are trying to get at.. but it just doesn't connect.
you are saying there are times when its better the censor some speech. which is true. but a absolute free speech does not disagree with that, we are very aware of it. the idea is that IF the government/group can decided for everyone whenever they feel like its "for the greater good" then you get what extremist are doing right now. then there IS no free speech, thus its absolute freespeech or just ..freespeech only when its convenient/no freespeech.
@ccaptorchen Free speech must be "within reason". Its not one person that (should) make decisions like these. It should be a collective of smart, people, engaging in balanced debate over whether it would be more harmful than good, based on evidence, to allow a particular form of speech to be free. I don't think someone should be allowed to march up and down the street and try to encourage people to kill one another. That's insane.
and... who gets the decide what should be censored and what shouldn't? the government? interest groups? you? you said "smart people" but who gets the decide that? its going to lead to corruption. so I feel to be a truly free society, we have to stomach hate speech. as much as I would love to just punch someone who says " those troops deserve to die" or " god wanted 9-11" .. well since you mention no absolutes what if someone tells people to kill Hitler? would you censor that?
oops.. i realized the grammar mistakes when i reread it, because my post went over 500 words i cut out some lines.. and didn't recheck the grammar =P
well anyways.. I agree with you that some parts of freespeech sucks. such as allowing KKK hate speech, but if government can control ANY speech then there is no free speech,I agree everyone should be criticized so good luck with the draw TF day thing =) good night. I'm off for today =)
I question the achievement of the action because no one is stopping you. if you don't understand the risk involve in drawing Mohamed compare to drawing TF... maybe you should get a clue? if you can't understand the question.. maybe you should let whitedragon do all the talking for you lol.
Nice try and good job at missing out the whole point why it is important to draw something that is forbidden for no good reason.
Drawing Thunderfoot on the other hand is not a great upheaval in fact I'm very sure he wouldn't mind what you draw him as it's your free time to spend.
And just for the notes Thunderfoot is an Atheist and not a Christian. So long.
@p3st0lino LOL. How could anyone make that mistake? Even VFX knows he is an atheist. I call him thunderchrist (and others do too) because he is treated like a deity and he probably thinks that of himself.
@WhiteDragon103 Yaeh sure he definitely thinks he is a god or something. I mean he is challenging the views of a god and his prophets and holy stuff like that he wouldn't dare to if he didn't think of himself as a god. *facepalm*
@p3st0lino I think draw tf00t day is an awesome way to demonstrate that there is no one that is above criticism and mockery. a guy with 90K, very popular, there some people take his word as gospel.... not good. people need to think for themselves. I believe that Tf00t would agree to that and would be amused at the idea of "draw tf00t day". it would stroke his ego at being SO important.
@QueeeeNoftheHonEBZ Once again I don't have a problem with WD drawing thunderf00t or whom ever he likes it's his right to do so. Thunderf00t will surley not come out and say "How dare you WhiteDragon to draw me as a christian my followers will punish you with death." and that's what I'm criticising he isn't misses the point why it is important to stand up against oppression from people that want to put their imaginary friends above everything else.
@p3st0lino He probably knows Tf is an atheist; the point of this video was not to provoke Tf, but to challenge him and his drones into looking at the entire situation in a new light.
@erinra That point has been cleared up by now. None the less my opinion still stands that standing up against people who would actually kill you if you dare to doubt their believes is on an entire different level as protesting against internet fanboy culture of people who won't leave their living rooms anyway as long their house isn't burning or they need food but as I have also stated he is perfectly entitled to draw what ever he wants as far as I am concerned but my critique still stands.
True, there are certain instances in which free speech can and should be limited. Draw Mo Day, however, is NOT one of those instances.
