  • strong start with the drum .....

  • This is raw unadulterated U2 sound-not that any of their other stuff isn' that too, this just seems to have that "edge" no pun intended.

  • 7 people don't have clue.

  • j'adore

  • Pouf ma jeunesse ^^

  • Such a shame a young lad like that has herpes on his mouth.

  • @thehognias WTF????

  • @thehognias he's a man...

  • @thehognias hahaha, it could just as well be dry lips, or a crack from a punch.

  • How to not like U2 all the rhythms they burst, will influence the pop punk rock without ever losing quality. Magnificent.

  • what a lovely song .. just makes you wanna sway

  • Sounds so refreshing...raw, strong song --

  • ?BRIL!!! Loved the land ~

  • saw the live concert version and The Edge is a good singer on lead

  • Dude, this I like u2, but this song totally rips off the main riff from Johnny Was by Stiff Little Fingers. Both Irish bands...u2 with a punk influence...not hard to put the pieces together....

  • I love U2

  • 4 people's fingers slipped

  • It's almost painful not to hear New Years Day after this song.

  • @tenofivelips what a fantasic coment!!:-)))

  • After all the times I've listened to this song (thousands), I just now heard the little part in the middle where the chorus is chanting "I want to be an air force ranger...". I never understood where that came from, and I'm guessing these guys got it from somewhere else? Regardless, I also never understood why Judd Nelson ran down the hallway yelling the same thing in The Breakfast Club.

  • @Boredin81 That section is from the movie, "Soldier Girls."

  • @Boredin81 Airborne Ranger.

  • @Boredin81 ---It's a running cadence from the 60's ffrom the army..It is airborne ranger not airforce ranger. I wanna be an Airborne Ranger

I wanna live a life of danger

I wanna go to Viet Nam

I wanna kill old Charlie Kong.

  • @TheArtDad I remember this from The Breakfast Club.

  • who the fuck is that kid?

  • @Cidantis : Definitely not Justin Bieber!

  • Am I the only one who thought it was Bono singing during The Edge's parts the first they heard this?

  • thanks for a cool video, I loved it!

  • Bang bang, clunky clunk. Not a good period for U2 ; (

  • @kcirdrab in your opinion.... but in mine WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • @kcirdrab - WTF? This is post-punk at its purest, a brilliant song written in and about a period in Ireland's history that wasn't a good period either. Go listen to NLOTH if you want the samey indie crap they've been turning out for years.

  • @kcirdrab hit me but dont shit me!

  • so I listen to these lyrics and I compare them to (not just) but some pop of today and it make me feel old...

  • who's the kid on the cover of the CD¿?

  • @CMGBWCJBColdplay

the members of u2 had a freind named guggi, its a picture of guggi's little brother.

  • @CMGBWCJBColdplay

the members of u2 had a friend named guggi. the kid on the cover is guggi's little brother

  • I was 12, 13 years old growing up to this band from Ireland. For me, their older stuff is where it is at.

  • bellissima!!!ciao

  • I associate this with Harrisonburg, Virginia oddly enough

  • stvarno mozes slusati po sto puta...

  • sono molto contento di aver conosciuto gli u2 grazie magnifici

  • If you don't like this song why would you go through the trouble of watching it on youtube? Superb U2 song.

  • 1 person missed the like button and accidentally hit the dislike...

  • LOVE the back round music

  • Love this track. One of the best on War.

For me, it epitomises everything about the Cold War.

  • I love Edge's voice. Van Diemen's Land is great too. The bass is so hot too.

  • love this song. i grew up listening to it! it's definitely underrated.

  • I took a while before i understood thet it was The Edge that was singing first XD

  • Easily U2's most underrated song, amazing tune

  • the symbol of the Boy is that when a boy is entering the world, he wants to become manly, and try to be more like a man

  • drums keep going,,for liam & Raven & Marg in Michigan,love

    bobby

  • nothing better than the classic one.. bono

  • if yall out there know or remember the GDR, then I sure this has a little more meaning than those who dont. A lifetime ago it seems, seperated Germany, Tito in yugoslavia, the kmer rouge in Cambodia. We have no more credible threat that fires life and passion......for now

  • @zempke "credible threat that fires life and passion...". You're a damn FOOL.

  • wow years since i heard this, I can almost smell the cassette tape!

  • I've always liked this song. anyone else ever notice that "speech/chant" in the middle is a little longer on the reissued deluxe edition version?

  • Love this whole album but this song is so under rated

  • i could almost swear its bono

  • The early albums were their best

  • One of their absolute best ever. Nothing they've written in the last 20 years comes close. This was before the posing started...

  • Great song. We don't have the same urgency of danger these days, like they were singing about.

  • I never realized that The Edge sang lead vocals on this. He sounds a lot like Bono! Great job on this one, U2. This song is like an old friend from high school that I've recently become reacquainted with.

  • Wow! I havnt listen to this for donkeys years!

  • Wow! I havnt listen to this for donkeys years!

  • @27volt What the hell are you doing with donkeys?

  • @jtminutisme1 assin around

  • @EVERTONIC I never understood this comment of yours

  • Wii came to far in this debate to back out now. (katalina translates) Play more, war less. Did you see that soldier training in China who nearly blew himself up with his own grenade? That would suck.

  • u2 should of continue in this direction

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • this song has had me hooked since the first time i heard it ....20yrs ago!

& i never tire of it

    brilliant

  • totally true

  • this is an amazing U2 song that doesnt get the recognition it deserves!!!!! wonderful song!!!!

  • i respect it enough to almost compensate that.

    :P

  • @brookeeycookeey I know. I agree bro (or sis).

  • @brookeeycookeey seriously, I actually used to not like it, now its like, wtf was i thinking? haha, cheers!

  • @brookeeycookeey That's for sure. They got a little funky while singing a song with such a powerful message.

  • @brookeeycookeey

    It's all ours brother !

  • @brookeeycookeey I played this album everyday for a year and after all that this song became the focus, this song is to me the theme of this Album

  • A great song. Nothing else to say.
