still my favorite song - 4 years now... was so glad when you posted this in 09 - i have plastered it everywhere (used to blip it every night when i was blipping). God i love this song - and how it makes me ache for more... -frank- / model daughters
Omg I think I'm totally in love with this lady. =) Thank you Timber Timbre for somehow crisscrossing me with her. =) mmmm. fast in love with miss mariee sioux. =) Nice, I've been needing some nice new music to listen to. Very pretty, beautiful, and soothing. =)
amazing. (: I love both her and j.newsom but she reminds me more of Alela Diane with her style of music. <3 and people (not me personally) could tolerate Mariee a tad bit more than miss. wonderful j. newsom.
why bother speaking words - when everything to do with this soul is feeling.
WHY do you wish to compare this artist to any other i am not sure. Mariee Sioux embodies spirit, honesty, passion; traits of an old human being, an old soul connected to the energy's of life and land.
the best part of the day is listening, and if you are blessed to hear a voice such as this then silence is evidently bliss.
I really love Mariee's music, along with Joanna Newsom.
Honestly, I'm quite conflicting trying to choose a better of the two, if there even is one.
Anyways, does anybody have any recommendations to similar artists?
If it's not too much trouble, give this a thumbs up so I can get more people to list their suggestions. Not only for my own research, but also as a way for people to share their favorite artists and explore further genres. Thanks guys/ladies! :D
This song itself is beautiful, but the way it has been recorded is horible. Compare this recording to two toungues or burried in teeth which don't have the same digital treatment to it.
Pour moi les chansons de Mariee Sioux sont comme des mantras, des prières, je l'ai vue en concert fin 2008 à Hyères, c'était un moment de grâce, une merveilleuse parenthèse dans ce monde de folie...
They're both originals that's for sure, but I think the Folk that's coming up like mushrooms at midnight definitely has a common thread. I'm so excited to see what else comes out in the next couple of years. California has given us nothing but gold, but like the gold rush, Canada has a lot coming out too.
@Ursamare Don't forget Old Blighty! You should check out Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn, Emmy the Great and alongside these relatively well known artists there's a whole host of lesser known but brilliant talents too! Thanks for uploading this :)
This is really a beautiful song, extremely addicting to listen to. Mariee reminds me of a female version of Devendra Banhart. Less quirky, Sioux being more spiritual subtle and sweet.
I love that you said that because I think its fascinating to watch this Neo Folk movement grow with the contribution all of these talented musicians. And there's so much more to come, so much.
@Ursamare i love all of it i own this album and am very very happy about that
i have been watching the movement grow since 05 and now it has reached as far as germany and canada i am sure it started way before that but thats when i started noticing the nor cal and arizona bands going in that direction
Just to comment on this slightly, Neofolk is a completely different genre that started in the 1980s, and is much different than the indie folk revival you're referring to. It's just semantics, but they are very different from each other. Some music elitist might get mad at the mix-up lol.
I could not agree with you more. My hope is that as the Canadian winter thaws I can find a month of peace in the woods with a fire, guitar and this song.
Go Marie Sioux xx

The best about this song is, that it's not only short 3 or 4 mins long.
It's almost 10 mins of joy, love and harmony !!!
Really great music with deep meanings!

Listening to her music is like walking all alone through a sequoya forest on a rainy day, the ground covered with moss and fallen leaves.
The part where she says "Who's next to watch from under the currents" makes me cry.
