I used to follow the band all around the DC metro area (swing dancer) and was astounded by the sheer raw talent. The ability to write and play this music was second to none. The tragic murder of Darren those many years ago still makes me wonder "what if..."

Not only a great player, but a genuinely nice guy who (I believe) didn't know just how amazingly talented he was.

I sent my mom a video of "Please Mama Please" a while back and the first thing she said was, "He sounds just like Elvis." Darren truly does sound like Elvis and it's so sad that his life ended way too soon before his band could get even more success. I just read about how he died, damn those teenagers who shot him.

This was such a awesome band its just sad how it all ended because of stupid kids, a voice was silence and he did have such an amazing voice sad we didn't get a chance to experience more of this great band...... but his voice and music will live forever!!!!

Darren was a very gifted singer and a very nice guy. I had seen them at the Grog and Tankard in DC several times. I actually called Darren's home wondering when they were going to return to the Grog and his wife told me they would resume playing locally in the fall because they were currently on tour in CA. I worked at a TV store and heard the local critic on TV report on the tragedy a few months later. I heard the words "Darren Lee Spears" on the TV, I knew exactly who he was talking about.

I'm so glad I was able to find this performance here... Darren was my uncle (married to my mom's sister), and although I don't remember a lot about him (being as young as I was then), I do remember how torn apart the family was, and wish I could have known him better... he was such a talented man. <3

The remaining members of Go Cat Go should do a show once a year and bring in other singers to sing..Brian Setzer, Elvis from 3BJ,etc. Donate all the money to a fund if Darren had children for them, or something he cared about. At the end of each show they should drag the kids who did it out and toss them to the crowd for 5 minutes. A once yearly godawful beatdown reminder for them...and a once yearly reminder for the lucky few to have heard GCG how lucky we were for the one disc. Win/WIn IMO

In 2004, the original members got together with Eddie Clendening to do two shows, one in Vegas and one in Hemsby, England. Brian Freeman, the bassist, is now into jazz. Lance LeBeau, the drummer, plays in his wife's band the Flea Bops along with other projects. Bill Hull, the guitarist, plays with an alternative rock band. They have no plans to do another show because Darren cannot be replaced, and it would be a tarnish to his image to continue performing without him.

@morongo ....That is a great idea....I for one would love to offer my services for such an event. I am the lead singer with COOL CAT CRY, and we do some 'Go Cat Go' covers, and in fact our band name is taken from 'Til the cool cats cry'. Darren was such a star. It's a real loss to the world not having him around, but folks like us guys in COOL CAT CRY will help keep his songs going as long as we can.

Yes Darren Spears is sadly missed but a previous comment mentioned Jerry King.Yes he is very very similar vocally to Darren.I have two of his CD's.Definitely worth checking out!!
