Love this song! Thanks for posting it. I mentioned this on your other one that I got to see Tears for Fears live in the '80s. They were great. I also saw The Motels, Crowded House (many, many times), Berlin, The Police, The Fixx, Queen and Art of Noise (remember them?) among others.
I love this song and band, your remember your getting older...Your parents thought the same of this crap and probably mentioned Perry Como as the good old days. :)
It's a beautiful afternoon here in the NW and decided to put on some Tears for Fears for the backdrop of the day and this music only magnifies the beauty of God’s creation. Roland & Curt are amazing artist STILL! What a blessing to being able to listen to their Genius, thank you Roland & Curt... you're the best!
back in the day a person had to really exude a tremendous amount of talent . The powers that be which handed out stardom & fame didnt care how long the general public had to wait before finding another hit singer or band. Nowadays, the music industry isnt what it used to be. It's turning almost anyone with a descent voice into a talent show on tv that gives us the pop culture songs of this day & age. It is what it is but I think Dick Clark said it best, "Music is the Soundtract to your life."
I agree.... these guys especially, and duran duran were really under rated as musicians. They had to get famous by being marketed as "Hair Bands" or Posers or whatever, but really... there were Very Talented Writers and Musicians.
I beleive this song was written for Robert Wyatt, whos voice would have suited it perfectly. (if you havent heard of wyatt, look him up singing shipbuilding)
@jolleygoodshow I was listening to what I thought was new music by this guy called Robert Wyatt and as i listened I thought, "Hmmm.. kinda reminds me a little of the "Soft Machine." And little wonder as I did some research. Boy, have i been sleeping under a rock? The more recent stuff by Wyatt is wonderful. I love the purity of the underproduced numbers.
@TOMASTOPETE Actually, for a while, there were 4 of them. Keyboardist Ian Stanley and drummer Manny Elias. They were only around for two albums, I think. Used to have such a crush on Ian:) They were considered members of the band, so they counted. Most folks just recognize Roland and Curt.
Still have this one on vinyl:) This was my favorite track. Wish I could see them on tour later this year, but they are only doing a few dates on the west coast:(
I'm not sure there is any debate in order to know which decade is better than another. This kinda question is only relevant for those who live in their memories and/or are unable to evoluate...
Never mind! Tears For Fear was really a special and talended band. I'm found of what is produced today but I'm also happy to hear such good songs one more time!!
Amazing song, disagree with me all you want, but I really think that the sax at 3:22 shouldn't be there, it just doesn't fit at all, in my opinion. But still, love this song.
@yurianne07 Don't say that you have to pass this time of great songs don't let it down ! I am sure we will throw out this music to our children ! Think about your parents if you got some !!!?
@rationalmale This was my first girlfriend's and my favorite album in 85. Our song was "head over heals". I remember she gave me a pewter pendant with "head over heals" engraved on the back. We were 16.....wow....
This is one of those songs that just left me stunned from beginning to end, never heard anything like it before. The mixture of hope and doubt in the lyrics is disturbing yet amazing. Plus they really knew how to use saxophones in the '80s. ;)
This song touches my heart, because I know it's true to the letter. It is true, we will be strong once the hurting, pain, war, hate, violence and anger perishes. We may perish with it, but the pain will end someday.
Someone from the UK tell me if I am wrong but don't the band members all have music degrees?
Anyway, these are songs worth listening to and they will be classics for a long time. The whole album is GREAT.. Put it on and "Let the Music Play" a la Barry W.
If you were alive and "engaged" in the 80's then you'll realize, other than the creepy outfits and hair people wore, how wonderful the decade really was. Music from Tears for Fears, Phil Collins (genesis), Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Lionele Richie, George Michael, Culture Club...were simply wonderful.
This was the first album I bought when I left home. It still makes me think of the heavy snow and deep cold of that year. I still play it when there is snow about.
my mom turned me on to these guys when I was like 7 or 8 and just hearing it brings back so many good memories! What the hell happened too good music?!

in 1985 or 84 I dont remember for sure, I purchased a vinil, went to the store with my dad, and it was a collection of songs from the time. This song was in there and I started to learn english with it, because it was slow. At the time, my father said I was singing without knowing I was spelling it. (I´m Brazilian). Today I speak like 8 languages...more so over. Do not know how. I created my own method. I think brain and music function together, need to know how. Thanks Tears. I´m 32.

a quick drop-by.. ty for uploading this :) roland seems to like the phrase "resign oneself to..." and when he says it in the song, he's so poetic(his beautiful voice also bears witness to it, i think) once again thank you:)
this is the version with Curt. Roland's is subsequently titled, "I Believe (A soulful re-recording)" and is avaliable on the 21st century master's edition.
actually you know what? I've heard this song probably over 100 times and always thought it was Curt, but it actaully sounds like Roland trying to sing like Curt. It's really hard to tell. Sorry if I'm wrong. Anybody know for sure?
It's actually Roland on both the versions! But I can understand the confusion. Here Roland sounds very much like Curt. Who knows probably it was done deliberately?
Oh THANKS SO MUCH for posting this! This is the first complete "I Believe" on Youtube! The video is here, but it got cut off early. I love how Roland sings in this song, it fits the instruments perfectly...and I don't know I can't explain it LOL.
i love this song! <3

Such a great song for 'couple skate'! Tears for fears was one of my favorite bands. The horns in this song are next to perfection.

a quick drop-by.. ty for uploading this :) roland seems to like the phrase "resign oneself to..." and when he says it in the song, he's so poetic(his beautiful voice also bears witness to it, i think) once again thank you:)

this is the version with Curt.

Roland, definitely

It's actually Roland on both the versions! But I can understand the confusion. Here Roland sounds very much like Curt. Who knows probably it was done deliberately?

Oh THANKS SO MUCH for posting this! This is the first complete "I Believe" on Youtube! The video is here, but it got cut off early. I love how Roland sings in this song, it fits the instruments perfectly...and I don't know I can't explain it LOL.
