@raherecolston HSS would not cut it. I would get halfway across and, the edge would be gone. I thought I would try a brazed on carbide tool bit and,to my surprise it did not chip until I was almost done. I took off 1/2" per side. I then used a bigger carbide tool without the holder and, got rid of the chatter. Shaperhaven
This video shows why in my opinion for machining one offs made of nasty material the shaper is not a obsolete machine

That horrible grating ,tearing noise. Is it tool chatter or just ripping off the sand and chill from the casting surface?
