500 Days of Summer brought me here. That's the only thing I can concievably say about this song. I could say that it's one of the best songs by one of the greatest bands of all time, but nope, I heard it in a movie.
@WinstonSmith144 Pretty much. That's because it's most certainly not one of the best songs by one of the greatest bands of all time lol the song pretty much sucks. It's only use is in 500 days of summer as a karaoke song.
@22metzfan K, so if that's what you think, why are you commenting on a "The Pixies - Here Comes Your Man" video? How bout spending your free time commenting on a song you like? Just a helpful thought
Frank: "It's about winos and hobos traveling on the trains, who die in the California Earthquake. Before earthquakes, everything gets very calm—animals stop talking and birds stop chirping and theres no wind. It's very ominous.
I've been through a few earthquakes, actually, 'cause I grew up in California. I was only in one big one, in 1971. I was very young and I slept through it. I've been awake through lots of small ones at school and at home. It's very exciting actually—a very comical thing."
@SeanHMc "I probably liked the word 'boxcar' because I heard it on the R.E.M. song, from their first record." (Carnival of sorts).
These were his words in an interview with NME.
You can decide. I don't think "Here comes your man" fits in with the earthquake. But then, why would he lie about his own song? Unless he was taking the p***... Which he was known to do.
I googled this after seeing it in 500 days of summer too to find out what the song was. It's apparently about an atomic bomb dropped on Japan called the Bocksar, it's nickname was the fat man. Something like that.
@simpsonNirvana94 Yeah, actually its about prostitution. hence "never wait so long, here comes your man", they never have to wait long before a man picks them up in a "box car"
@simpsonNirvana94 Duh??? This song is NOT about love. Francis claims it's about boxcar riding hobos being killed during an earthquake but there are many references to WW2 bombings on Japan. Love was the last thing on his mind when he wrote this tune. Amazing how frequently people misinterpret lyrics based on the chorus. Listen closely next time
@simpsonNirvana94 This song is actually about nuclear holocaust. "Boxcar" is actually a reference to "Bockscar" the B29 bomber that dropped the nuclear bomb code named "Fatman" on Nagasaki Japan August 9, 1945, hence the reference to here comes your "man"
@simpsonNirvana94 its not about love at all look at the lyrics all over again (big shake on the box car moving big shake to the land that's falling down)
@tye703 It's about hobos who die in an earthquake in California from the aftershock of an atomic bomb that was dropped on Japan by the plane "Bockscar" some fourty years earlier, duh.
@lkmrn325 lol why r you guys so sarcastic? I mean I like the song, & I know it's about love too but if you really dig deep into the lyrics it's not like it's all: "I love you" & "I miss you", I mean it's not easy to imagine that it's about love when you first look at the song. @theblackmoonofghost "Your 'man'", "Box car", "Big wind", etc., all references to the atomic bomb. Black Francis has never actually come out and said it, though.
