Well...Maybe I can explain why there are hidden Easter Eggs in some early games.Back in FC/NES games, they are strored in ROM of the cartrige. ROM always comes in some actual size,64KB,128KB,and so on. If a game was completely and perfectly developed and nothing to improve recently, but still not fill all the rest ROM space, those're wasted.Eg, If a game is totally 72KB but ROM is 128KB, the rest 56KB do nothing. So they fill it with Easter Eggs or garbage or sth like that to make ROM fully used.
@ikyokyo If you're interested in this kind of thing, google the Cutting Room Floor Wiki. It's a site I run that aims to catalog all of this stuff, and you might be interested in helping us with research.
Famicom (Family Computer) is just the Japanese version of the NES; they all play the same ROMs. (The only distinction is FDS, Famicom Disk System images; those are a different format from the cartridges)
Soft reset. What emulator are you using? If it's FCEUX, you can go to Debug -> Hex editor and watch 0x0115; that will give you the internal reset counter.
You'll want to make sure that at 2D (2C?) you hold A+B and then soft-reset. It'd be best to take a savestate every few resets to make sure you don't have to do it all over again if you screw up.
THANK YOU I used this to learn how to manually insert NES music into other games. Don't ask how but it involves a hex editor, NSFs and the "search" feature to find the 1st few notes ☺
Insanity, to be honest. Who would have thought this level of obscurity would be found? It's things like this where I wish we could contact the original team and ask them...Why?
Mine didn't look like this with a MENU!

There are actually 5 hidden songs. Check gamefaqs for the complete cheat.

If you read, I know there are 5 songs; just two of them fit together as one.

Lol @ "namcot" on the title screen.

Video games for the Famicon were released in Japan under the moniker Namcot (with the letter t at the end). -- Wikipedia

I've actually been trying doing this the hard way with my Galaxian ROM. No such luck. I don't know if I should use Hard or Soft reset or what.

also, your avatar, is that from disgaea? it seems so familiar.. I can't put my meat on it
InternetTAB 2 years ago
Yes, it's from Disgaea. The first game, to be specific (Male warrior).
I'll just assume the last part of that reply was a typo.

I believe he was quoting Meatwad, from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I do recognize that tune. It's from a Miyazaki film; I think it's from either Laputa or Naussica.

Because they're bored, it's their program and they can do whatever the fuck they want with it?

Interesting. The rough simplicity of these tunes is beautiful, no volume envelopes or whatsoever.

Hmm, the first song that plays in the video sounds oddly familiar...
