Calgary almost won it on a power play midway through the third, but Nikolai Khabibulin stuck out his right leg to stop Martin Gelinas' rebound attempt perilously close to the goal line. Multiple TV replays did not conclusively show the puck crossing the line.
"It's got to be conclusive," Sutter said. "I looked at it from two different angles, and unless they have a different one, you can't say that it's a goal.
Yeah we'll get it back as soon as Sutter gets fired and feaster does something more then get us Jones and Cammy.. as much as I like them both I think its time for some massive names to come to calgary.
The goal wasnt in. In order for the puck to be completely across the line it would have been much farther back in relation to its point in the air/line. Wishful thinking to say it was over just because its in the air....
@offtherock11 I'm a flames fan. I don't completely think that it was in, but it's just a very debatable issue, i could have crossed the line more after that picture, or that could be from the moment the puck hit the pad.....
What do you mean without the home ice advantage? They still could have won on the road like the Bruins did this last year. All your are doing is giving excuses to why your team didn't win.
That goal was not in, their was no conclusive evidence to call it a goal. Also all of your points are made on belief not fact. Finally, I understand Calgary had player who deserved the cup but so did the Lightning who had players like Anderchuck, Richards, St.Louis, Lecavalier, and Kahabibuln.
One of the worst calls ever!! The flames won it! seriously knowing that If I was one of the players on tampa I would be a shamed to say I won that cup.
LOL thats what they get for how they advanced to win the cup in 89, Steve Smith. Just goes to show flook victories come back to haunt you, they were never meant to have that first cup.
the better question is.... why are making a video of you throwing a hissy fit in a video made 4 years AFTER what happend? its a thing of the past move on please!
Lmao@even though the goal was in. It wasn't in. Keep living in denial. If you want to see screwed over, go look at the 2009 finals where Detroit was better for 6 games.
Ron McLean makes an excellent point? By asking a crowd? Are you fuckin simple?
I viewed and reviewed the replays, and although I am a Flames fan. The right call was made. There was no replay that conclusively put the puck over the goalline. The one replay that confuses many is the one that the puck is in the air and gives the appearance of being in.
the end of the video asks "if we know the goal was in, then why do we let tampa have the cup still?" umm because the play wasnt reviewed before the next drop of the puck. You think the rules are different because its the finals? look up Jay Pandolfo goal in 2003 ECF against Ottawa game 3, that puck actually WAS in conclusively but wasn't awarded because the ref missed it and by the time it was seen on replay the puck had dropped. and so the Devils were ROBBED of a 2-0 win, only got a 1-0 win :(
@wes007parks even if it did and the game went to 1-1 and they lose in OT, would we be able to go back and say "HEY give us back that game the final score was 2-1 in regulation"? Shit happens deliberate or not as great as hockey is it's a buisiness too and our emotional investment in the sucesses of our team opens us all up to unnesscessary pain when things don't go our way whether its by the rules or not...I still think this was inconclusive but it should've been reviewed : /
u make a great point i think they should have won .......but one thing with me iz the overhead view it would be hard to decide but otherwise they should have won the cup
how the fuck was the goal not in did you guys see how the puck pass the line by so much.. whatever atleast we didnt choke big as the canucks 41 year old cup virgins.
vancouver cup run was better.... yahooooo!!!!! if canucks loose the way they did this year though, there would be war. people killed shot with machine guns lol....
@okpapereat Vancouver cup run was better? No way. Vancouver benefited from a weak division barely slipped by an 8 seeded Chicago in round 1, had a bevy of one goal victories against the Preds and were fortunate to draw the Sharks instead of the Red Wings. In going to the finals in 04 Calgary beat the top 3 teams in the West and had a talented Tampa Bay on the ropes.
@VancouverChokers Look, thats why it made it better the chicago series, everyone was on the edge of the seat in game 7 and the fact that canucks did not loose to chicago again that was great to see. What i think was the problem was the canucks where not big enough for boston. They did not have players with much stanley cup final game 7 experiences. Like really i think if they had some one like Pissani or Seabrooke or even if Gelinas if he still played would of contributed a big role in game 7
@okpapereat how was you're run better?? i can name a few reasons why our run was 2x as good
-we flames fans have class and there were no riots what so ever after our loss, we still cheered on our team unlike Vancouver
-we didn't choke in our game 7 loss. We lost 2-1 in a very close game
-we were the underdogs in all of our series and defeated 2division champions while you guys (1st seed) blew a 3-0 series lead to the Blackhawks (8th seed)
@sasprawler Your right there was no riots, because Calgary is a good city to live in, i myself live in Calgary, don't call this a choke, any canadian fans shouldnt call this a choke they where Canada's best chance to get back the cup. Your flames were not. And you all you canadian fans wanting a choke get out of my fucking country your not truely a canadian. This was a better run because Vancouver finally beating chicago, Then beating niemi what a vengence against a goalie who slammed the door.
@okpapereat yes the flames did suck this year but they were the best bet in '04. I don't get why this is becomeing a Canada vs USA thing though, these teams play for their cities, NOT their countries. I'm not Canadian, i'm an Afrikaans South African immigrant and my family just happened to settle in Calgary. Nevertheless i still play hockey and am a team Canada/flames fan. Just because the Canucks beat the team that kept eliminating them that makes their run better?? i don't get it..............
@sasprawler Well sure its always Canada vs US, in these kinda things because Us teams been bringing the cup home since 1993, we can't let that happen anymore. Canadian teams have to win, and that does make their run better because that series was magical, and every team canucks played had a special moment. The Chicago Vancouver series made the run exciting it made it suspenseful... everybody was on the edge of the seat watching that game 7. That makes series exciting.
@okpapereat look at the Vancouver Calgary series, in game 7 the Canucks tie it up with 5 seconds to go in the 3rd and then Calgary wins in OT, really exciting. And if you look at the flames cup-winning goal in game 6 that wasn't counted, that also makes it exciting. I don't personally care that much about a Canadian team winng but the only reason i would want a Canadian team to win is so that those cocky American fags can stop bragging about American teams winning.
Look, I know you Flames fans haven't had much to cheer about since 2004, but GET OVER IT!!! Being a great team that deserves to win doesn't just mean being the most talented or hardest working. It also means being lucky and getting bounces and calls to go your way. The Lightning had that, the Flames didn't. The Flames probably would've blown the lead anyway.
It's not controversial because it was 100% a goal. The goal is controversial because all the intense video analysis and physical characteristics and all off the ice theory's all came well after the game was over, and not when the play stopped (like what should have happened). I remember the year before, Anson Carter scored a winning goal at the IIHF gold medal in OT and it was heavily reviewed with a worse angle for 10+ minutes LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, and it was called a goal
The call on the ice was no goal, so therefore to overturn a call, it must be 100% clear that it should be overturned. There is not enough evidence it was in. The view of the puck over white ice is not evidence because of the point of view and the puck is not on the ice based on the calgary players stick angle
As an Edmonton Oilers fan, I can't stand Calgary ALTHOUGH I do believe that was clearly a goal. I'm not saying Tampa didn't deserve the cup though because as many other ppl have said, there was enough time remaining in the game to get another goal, and there was even a game 7 to be played. Gary Bettman is a little weasel though and I sincerely hate him lol
@ChokeslamToHell if you or anyone seriously thinks bettman had anything to do with the bruins winning the cup than you need to stop watching hockey all together.
Why didnt the Flames just win Game 7? Or score again in the 3rd? Or score in the 1st overtime? Truth is even if that goal would have counted the Lightning still had time to tie and they would have pulled their goalie etc. If the Flames were so deserving of the cup they would have scored another goal. Tampa outplayed them in game 7 and thats why they won the cup. All the Flames had to do was win that game...but they couldnt.
@North49Canuck well if calgary got that goal in we would of won i cant remember the final but i think we went into OT but if that goal went in we wouldnt of gone into OT and woulda won
@VancouverChokers No it was not a goal. Why well because the puck might of well bite the line by a millimeter or so and even if it did that its still no goal because the puck has to be all the way in the goaline. This was not. Toronto might have a better angle then what we saw they might of had a angle that we did not get to see. I see people trying to prove it was in using experiments and such and look very strong prove that it was in but you got to realize that toronto only have equipments
@VancouverChokers and they said it was not in. I trust that the goal judge in toronto will make the right call 99 percent of the time, you gotta know they take these stuff seriously and i do to since i was 3 years old i have started a passion in deciding if the puck was in or not, this is my life i have also looked at many angles using same technology as they do and i could not find any evidence that this could be all the way in.
@MVPgoalie Because thats what i love to do i always find it interesting like a detective solving the mystery if the pucks where really over the goal line then i started use magnifying features to blow up the puck in the crease. When ever its a close call i look at every case carefully blow it up at the best angle and give my thoughts, one day i would love to be goal judge using all those better technology. But this one i don't think its a goal its grabbing a piece of the goal line meaning it
@MVPgoalie WE ALL SEEN THE SERIES, GET TO THE POINT,YOURE NOT A GOOD COMMENTATOR, A CRIME?BETTER CALL THE COPS LOL, fuckin canuks allways cryin about something
Since all you Flames fools are blind. Check this video out. Now you know why the goal doesn't count. The puck was standing on end in this game too. So actually, you should shut your whore mouth :) OWNED, bitches!
@meany1023 I see you don't understand the rules, but that's expected from a Flames fan. The puck has to completely cross the line to count, and you can't tell if it did or not cause 1. terrible angle 2. it was up in the air 3. on end. Damn inbreds
@Roflmafao it never went off a players skate it wasnt a kicking motion even if it did dumbass it was nothing like that why they called no goal the ref was to blind to even see the puck in the net
This whole thing is stupid. First of all, you say 2-0....it was 2-1. Second of all, you fucking moron (calgary flames fan here) ITS NOT CONCLUSIVE YOU FUCKING MORON
I'm a Wings fan, so I have no bias. But that was originally called "no goal." To overturn something, there needs to be video evidence. None of their angles showed the puck passing the redline. And the angle where it looks like it is in is a bad angle because the puck is up in the air which gives the illusion of it being in the net. But like Ron Maclean said, "There was less evidence than the Martha Stuart trial." So it couldn't be overturned
didn't mention also the two players that got into a shoving match in game 7, and how the hell that resulted in a TB 5 on 3 in game 7 that pretty much sealed the deal right away. Bettman and his USHL can suck it.
I agree it was a goal, and while I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories, I do believe that from an NHL perspective, its way better to get Tamapa to win the cup, as they don't have a solid franchise there, while pretty much all Canadian cities do.
With that being said, that goal wasn't in OT, so Tampa still could have responded, while that goal was huge, we don't know if it was the game winner.
Fluke run? lol get your head out of your butt - we lost and had 40,000 people on the red mile to celebrate our team making it as far as they did - Tampa Bay had less than 10,000 people at their victory parade - plus Tampa Bay 'fans' told me they were going to 'repeat' the next year even though there was already an announced lockout - talk about a deserving city
@Circagon What does having 40,000 people (as if that was a lot of people, didn't Boston have over ONE MILLION fans at their cup parade? 40k! Ooh wow lol, gtfo) have to do with the fact that Calgary finished 6th in the West and fluked their way to the finals? Only the 8th place Oilers in 06 could be called flukier. 40,000 LMAO
@BoobWoong you notice at all boston games they werent all the same color as the boston team u watch vancouver game theres more blue then boston has at their games and more vancouver fans at bostons games too and u watch this game calgary theres maybe 2000 people wearing white rest and all red lol im not starting shit i was just saying but im glad boston won tho cuz the cup technically is coming to canada cuz of bostons 14 canadian players
The game wasn't reviewed because the heads of the NHL were in the building, their box was being renovated or some such so they kicked the goal review judges out of their booth so the heads had a place to hang out - thus the goal was not reviewed - the only people that saw the goal were the cameramen - and you can locate them and ask them - I did
We all know about the Calgary Flames 2004 Playoff Conspiracy. Game 6 against Tampa The Flames scored the puck in the net and it was not called by the Refs. Lucky for Tampa
It wasn't a goal, because Gelinas kicked it in. It may be difficult to see in this video, but check other videos of the play. Gelinas was slowing down as he approached the Lightning net, but his foot knocked the puck to the goal line while moving forward. That is a KICK. And that is exactly why the goal wasn't reviewed.
@RealMaximusPrime Oh yeah? Then why wasn't the goal reviewed then? And don't go off about there being some stupid conspiracy against the Flames......the very idea is ridiculous.
@stephl349 It was reviewed! The ice the he kicked up was blocking the view from the one side, and the goalie was blocking from the otherside so you coulnd't see shit. That goal was in the fucking net, and it didnt even come close to his foot until it bounced back out
@stephl349 You clearly do not understand the rules at all. Stopping in front of the net is stopping in front of the net. He didn't make a distinct kicking motion with his leg, his knee didn't even bend. ANother reason why bitches should have no say in sports. Get the fuck out.
@crunchizzle Oh yeah? Then why wasn't the goal reviewed then? And don't go off about there being some stupid conspiracy against the Flames......the very idea is ridiculous.
@stephl349 dude he was stopping dumbass it has to be a kicking motion not stopping if it bounces off skate and hes stopping its not kicked in u fucking dumbass i was at the game in calgary i could even clearly see that it wasnt a kicking motion so stfu
I hate when people are this obvious about their bias, at least be a bit less obvious, maybe not say the goal was in and show how much of a flames fan you are because it takes away from the credibility
even IF it was in and IF Gelinas didn't kick it in there was still 6 minutes left! To claim that the Flames won the Cup that year is not only ridiculous but hilarious! Keep dreaming! LMAO!
@MrJoePappi wow ur a FAG....."keep dreaming"....really???. How big of an idiot are you? we made it to the finals so we didn't really have to keep dreaming since we barely even made the play-offs that year. We then made it to the finals so that was a dream come true all by it self.
yes I think it was a goal...... however, you need to get your facts straight! the score in game 7 was 2-1, and just because the refs missed a call doesn't make it a "crime against humanity"
Actually, you should get your facts straight. The score was 2-2. This took place in the third period, which no (official) goals were scored. Tampa Bay and Calgary both scored twice in the second period. So, if you think it was a goal, it was the Stanley Cup winning goal.
I don't really know if it was a goal, but clearly all the dislikes are because of your lack of research. They lost game 7 2-1 with several glorious chances to tie it up, it breaks my heart just as much as anyone else to watch these videos.
Yes I do believe that was a goal, but to say Calgary was cheated of the cup isn't fair to say. How do you know what would have happened in the final 6 minutes? Tampa Bay could have tied it up. No one will ever know. But ya it was a big screw up.
Nice video ... sorry but Tampa won the cup ... Calgary didn't score .. fact ... they didn't score, they didn't screw them out of a goal ... the puck did not cross the line, basic physics will prove that ... sorry ... Go LIghtning!
calgary flames fan pfffff the couldnt get 1200 people in the building when they were shit then they mde the play offs and all of calgary was a flames fan
@Lewis2931 you fucking joke. flames fans are better than any fans in the league. you clearly know nothing. go fuck yourself because our fans are better than the fans of whatever shitty fuckin team you cheer for you fucking cunt.
@bdGongShow Please don't embarrass yourself more than you have to - I also clearly remember a half-empty building before the Flames went on this fluke run. Glad they didn't win, that would have been a taint on the history of the Stanley Cup to let such a luckyass team become champs.
@BoobWoong yeah a struggling team and a weak canadian dollar will do that dipshit. same goes for any team. fucking idiot. shut your fucking mouth. i remember a half empty building i tampa in the playoffs for fuck sakes. shut your mouth bitch.
@BoobWoong im saying that because you clearly dont know half a fuck about the NHL and your here just to troll flames fans. so yeah, shut your mouth bitch!
@bdGongShow You lose, fool. Since you're too dumb to figure it out on your own, let a commentator (you know, someone who actually knows something about hockey) explain why the goal doesn't count. Flames are such losers like their team. /watch?v=XEmC8Zhj-RY&feature=related
@BoobWoong yet the nhl still comes out and admits that the goal was in fact in? oh and no i didnt waste my time copying and pasting that link, i would like to have more of a life than that
@bdGongShow I see you're still living in lala-land. The NHL never said that was in, ever. Maybe a buddy at work said it was in, and you mistook him for an NHL official. Don't make me laugh. I would ask you for a link but knowing how you don't put much stock into real world proff (you even admitted you didn't watch my video lol) I'm not holding my breath.
@bdGongShow actually srry to say they never did the only thing that happened was the ref retired 1 month after that when he was getting threatning mail/email and calls
@bdGongShow well if ur saying calgary is a struggling team im srry your wrong im not trying to start shit but our dollar isnt weak our dollar is over ur american dollar
@bdGongShow ahh ok thanks great talking with u man and yea tampa will never beat us in fans lol never our 17th ave was full every day from 1 end of downtown to the end of 17th ave downtown other words red mile and yea goal shoulda gone in i was at the game that night pissed me off i clearly saw it
@bdGongShow and also my friend was born in 1989 the year we won but funny thing is he was born the second we won and he was called the miracle child and was all over the news papers my friend still has the paper from that day when the flames came to visit him
@Lewis2931 i dnt give a fuk wat u say u fukin idiot, we still had 1200 ppl show up, alright, if any other team was on a losing streak like that, the league wouldve made the team move cuz noone goes to the games. u fukin moron
Awesome video dude, but turn down the freakin' gain on the audio! The volume was fine, but the gain was up all the way making you sound like Buzz Alrdin. I kept expecting you to end off with something like "One small step for Calgary, ..."
shit happens dude. calgary are an awesome team and would have been great for iggy and the boys to take a title...but thats how it goes sometimes and it sucks.
If you don't believe there is bias in the NHL in favour of the teams in larger markets, you are naive. I used to work for one of the Calgary Flames sponsors, and the shady business that happened between the franchise and my employer was appalling. How much worse must it be on the league-wide scale.
When a goal like that goes to review, the consideration is this: "Which call earns the NHL more money, and can we get away with making that call?"
@ddpsp So if the NHL FAVORS larger market teams, why isn't Boston, New York, LA, Washington, Toronto or Chicago in the Finals yearly? Going by your logic it shouldn't matter how good your team is, but how good your Metro population is.
@acman247365 My argument was based on reasoned inference and not on applied logic. Logic is not the be all and end all of investigative thought. With that said, it is ironic that you criticize my "logic" while simultaneously failing to employ logic yourself.
Simply because there is bias in the goal review room does not mean the entire league is choreographed from top to bottom, season to season. It means that the monetary implications of close calls influence those calls. Nothing more.
lol poor babies. one missed call and they lose an entire series i can totally see the reasoning behind that. If they flames truly did deserve the cup, they would have come back, scored a goal in game 6 to win it, or just not shit the bed in game 7. Tampa was the better team in a 7 game series. They deserved the cup. Stop blaming one missed call (might not a have been in any way...) on an entire series
Exactly! Shit calls happen, get over it. I can give just as bad a no call as this no goal call. Red Wings V. Penguins part duex! Refs missed a too many men on the ice for over a minute caused Detroit to be tired and give up a goal, Pens go on to win the cup. As much as I hated the call, the Wings got outplayed in that game and at the end of the Series the Pens were the better team. Sorry but you have got to rise above bad call.
ok... we have to look at this as the rule book states... that shot of gelinas scoring couldve been just a weird camera angle... dont forget if the puck is up in the air some white of the ice will show... we will never ever know if that puck went in, in fact probably only khabibulin will ever know (and you think he'd actually admit it? no) the reason this was called no goal is because it was inconclusive.. when a play is inconclusive the ref's origional call stands... which was in fact.. no goal
he was probaly in toronto and said nope call it no goal i mean come on
hes trying to prevent more canadian teams, and trying to prevent nhl'ers from playing in the olympics and hockey much hockey players in the nhl are canadian probaly over half.......... and in this case cheating out canada from a cup and most of all cheating out calgary
Maybe if you had played hard in game 7 or in OT of game 6 instead of crying about how "it was in" Your Calgary Flames would have a cup.I mean if a missed call deflates you that badly you dont diserve to win IMO.Oh and the play was never reviewed btw, they thought it would be but it never was. Watch the game again. You sound like the same leafs fans who cry about the high stick on Gilmour in game 6 against LA in 93.You still had game 7 leafs nation suck it up.
1.There was still 7 mins left in the game, just cause you lead the game 3-2 with 7 mins left does NOT mean you have won the cup, there is still 7 mins left to play. "But Tampa never scored in those 7 mins!" Yes but Tampa also had no reason to go all out to try and score did they? No reason to take risks and push hard when the game is tied. 2. You had OT to score and did not and 3. You had a game 7 that you decided to not play cause you got "cheated"
I think the Calgary Flames should have a golden crown patch on the arm/shoulder of all their jerseys because they are the uncrowned Stanley Cup champions of 2004.
It makes some sense. The NHL has been trying to increase profit in the US , especially southern teams. What better way than to 'help' Tampa win a cup. Just sayin.... I am over the 04 run, there was definatly luck involved. The cup should have gone to Calgary though.... But it looks like they may have an 04 type season on the go right now! Go Flames Go!!!
A few things are certain. In game 7, two pucks crossed over a goal line. Both pucks were shot by Tampa Bay and both were counted as goals. What happend next? I'll type slowly for you Flames fans....The game ended 2-0, the series ended 4 games to 3 in the favor of Tampa Bay and the Stanley Cup was awarded to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The crying about your so called conspiracy is quite funny. Not only did that "goal" not count...there weren't any other goals for your Flames the next 4 1/2 periods.
This is retarded. Why are we still talking about this seven years later?? When a team makes the finals, they come back next year stronger than ever. This chain started in '08. The flames haven't done crap since they made it into the finals, which shows they got lucky.
Flames fan are the biggest bunch of crybabies ever. Still whining about this 7 years later. Get over it. No matter how many times you try to convince yourself you won the Stanley Cup, you didn't. Lightning still got it. Move on and hope your team can get back there to try again.
back to the video DO NOT say he scored DO NOT and dont post that the Flames WON the stanley cup he DIDNT score because did the refs say he scored? Did he own COUNTRYMEN in Toronto say he scored? NO they say he didnt score so please this video is a waste of time the FLAMES LOST get ova it
ESPN Recap:
Calgary almost won it on a power play midway through the third, but Nikolai Khabibulin stuck out his right leg to stop Martin Gelinas' rebound attempt perilously close to the goal line. Multiple TV replays did not conclusively show the puck crossing the line.
"It's got to be conclusive," Sutter said. "I looked at it from two different angles, and unless they have a different one, you can't say that it's a goal.

Lmao@even though the goal was in. It wasn't in. Keep living in denial. If you want to see screwed over, go look at the 2009 finals where Detroit was better for 6 games.
Ron McLean makes an excellent point? By asking a crowd? Are you fuckin simple?
God some hockey fans are retards.
roflmewaffles 5 months ago
I viewed and reviewed the replays, and although I am a Flames fan. The right call was made. There was no replay that conclusively put the puck over the goalline. The one replay that confuses many is the one that the puck is in the air and gives the appearance of being in.

YOU THINK YOURE THE ONLY ONE TO GET THE FUCKED OUT OF A CUP? IM FROM BUFFALO WANNA TALK ABOUT BULLSHIT WE DIDNT GET ANY TURNOVER WHY SHOULD CALGARY?
wes007parks 5 months ago
the end of the video asks "if we know the goal was in, then why do we let tampa have the cup still?" umm because the play wasnt reviewed before the next drop of the puck. You think the rules are different because its the finals? look up Jay Pandolfo goal in 2003 ECF against Ottawa game 3, that puck actually WAS in conclusively but wasn't awarded because the ref missed it and by the time it was seen on replay the puck had dropped. and so the Devils were ROBBED of a 2-0 win, only got a 1-0 win :(
TJWhitey38 5 months ago
@TJWhitey38 but that call didnt change the outcome of the game dunbass
wes007parks 5 months ago
@wes007parks even if it did and the game went to 1-1 and they lose in OT, would we be able to go back and say "HEY give us back that game the final score was 2-1 in regulation"? Shit happens deliberate or not as great as hockey is it's a buisiness too and our emotional investment in the sucesses of our team opens us all up to unnesscessary pain when things don't go our way whether its by the rules or not...I still think this was inconclusive but it should've been reviewed : /

how the fuck was the goal not in did you guys see how the puck pass the line by so much.. whatever atleast we didnt choke big as the canucks 41 year old cup virgins.
Krazykiprusoff 6 months ago
vancouver cup run was better.... yahooooo!!!!! if canucks loose the way they did this year though, there would be war. people killed shot with machine guns lol....
okpapereat 6 months ago
@okpapereat Vancouver cup run was better? No way. Vancouver benefited from a weak division barely slipped by an 8 seeded Chicago in round 1, had a bevy of one goal victories against the Preds and were fortunate to draw the Sharks instead of the Red Wings. In going to the finals in 04 Calgary beat the top 3 teams in the West and had a talented Tampa Bay on the ropes.
VancouverChokers 6 months ago
@VancouverChokers Look, thats why it made it better the chicago series, everyone was on the edge of the seat in game 7 and the fact that canucks did not loose to chicago again that was great to see. What i think was the problem was the canucks where not big enough for boston. They did not have players with much stanley cup final game 7 experiences. Like really i think if they had some one like Pissani or Seabrooke or even if Gelinas if he still played would of contributed a big role in game 7
okpapereat 6 months ago
@okpapereat how was you're run better?? i can name a few reasons why our run was 2x as good
-we flames fans have class and there were no riots what so ever after our loss, we still cheered on our team unlike Vancouver
-we didn't choke in our game 7 loss. We lost 2-1 in a very close game
-we were the underdogs in all of our series and defeated 2division champions while you guys (1st seed) blew a 3-0 series lead to the Blackhawks (8th seed)
sasprawler 5 months ago
@sasprawler Your right there was no riots, because Calgary is a good city to live in, i myself live in Calgary, don't call this a choke, any canadian fans shouldnt call this a choke they where Canada's best chance to get back the cup. Your flames were not. And you all you canadian fans wanting a choke get out of my fucking country your not truely a canadian. This was a better run because Vancouver finally beating chicago, Then beating niemi what a vengence against a goalie who slammed the door.
okpapereat 5 months ago
@okpapereat yes the flames did suck this year but they were the best bet in '04. I don't get why this is becomeing a Canada vs USA thing though, these teams play for their cities, NOT their countries. I'm not Canadian, i'm an Afrikaans South African immigrant and my family just happened to settle in Calgary. Nevertheless i still play hockey and am a team Canada/flames fan. Just because the Canucks beat the team that kept eliminating them that makes their run better?? i don't get it..............
sasprawler 5 months ago
@sasprawler Well sure its always Canada vs US, in these kinda things because Us teams been bringing the cup home since 1993, we can't let that happen anymore. Canadian teams have to win, and that does make their run better because that series was magical, and every team canucks played had a special moment. The Chicago Vancouver series made the run exciting it made it suspenseful... everybody was on the edge of the seat watching that game 7. That makes series exciting.
okpapereat 5 months ago
@okpapereat look at the Vancouver Calgary series, in game 7 the Canucks tie it up with 5 seconds to go in the 3rd and then Calgary wins in OT, really exciting. And if you look at the flames cup-winning goal in game 6 that wasn't counted, that also makes it exciting. I don't personally care that much about a Canadian team winng but the only reason i would want a Canadian team to win is so that those cocky American fags can stop bragging about American teams winning.
sasprawler 5 months ago
Look, I know you Flames fans haven't had much to cheer about since 2004, but GET OVER IT!!! Being a great team that deserves to win doesn't just mean being the most talented or hardest working. It also means being lucky and getting bounces and calls to go your way. The Lightning had that, the Flames didn't. The Flames probably would've blown the lead anyway.
GOODPLAYA20 6 months ago
It's not controversial because it was 100% a goal. The goal is controversial because all the intense video analysis and physical characteristics and all off the ice theory's all came well after the game was over, and not when the play stopped (like what should have happened). I remember the year before, Anson Carter scored a winning goal at the IIHF gold medal in OT and it was heavily reviewed with a worse angle for 10+ minutes LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, and it was called a goal
halemath 6 months ago
The call on the ice was no goal, so therefore to overturn a call, it must be 100% clear that it should be overturned. There is not enough evidence it was in. The view of the puck over white ice is not evidence because of the point of view and the puck is not on the ice based on the calgary players stick angle

BakedCanadian420 6 months ago
As an Edmonton Oilers fan, I can't stand Calgary ALTHOUGH I do believe that was clearly a goal. I'm not saying Tampa didn't deserve the cup though because as many other ppl have said, there was enough time remaining in the game to get another goal, and there was even a game 7 to be played. Gary Bettman is a little weasel though and I sincerely hate him lol

YungHolla727 7 months ago
Why didnt the Flames just win Game 7? Or score again in the 3rd? Or score in the 1st overtime? Truth is even if that goal would have counted the Lightning still had time to tie and they would have pulled their goalie etc. If the Flames were so deserving of the cup they would have scored another goal. Tampa outplayed them in game 7 and thats why they won the cup. All the Flames had to do was win that game...but they couldnt.
YungHolla727 7 months ago
even if it counted, tampa could've scored and calgary could've won game 7 too so it's not really a conspiracy

meany1023 7 months ago
@meany1023 There was still seven minutes to play. Plenty of time for Tampa to tie it up again.
That said, I'm an Avs fan and think this was a goal.
VancouverChokers 6 months ago
@VancouverChokers No it was not a goal. Why well because the puck might of well bite the line by a millimeter or so and even if it did that its still no goal because the puck has to be all the way in the goaline. This was not. Toronto might have a better angle then what we saw they might of had a angle that we did not get to see. I see people trying to prove it was in using experiments and such and look very strong prove that it was in but you got to realize that toronto only have equipments
okpapereat 6 months ago
@VancouverChokers and they said it was not in. I trust that the goal judge in toronto will make the right call 99 percent of the time, you gotta know they take these stuff seriously and i do to since i was 3 years old i have started a passion in deciding if the puck was in or not, this is my life i have also looked at many angles using same technology as they do and i could not find any evidence that this could be all the way in.
okpapereat 6 months ago
@okpapereat "i have started a passion in deciding if the puck was in or not, this is my life "
seriously? lol
why?
MVPgoalie 5 months ago
@MVPgoalie Because thats what i love to do i always find it interesting like a detective solving the mystery if the pucks where really over the goal line then i started use magnifying features to blow up the puck in the crease. When ever its a close call i look at every case carefully blow it up at the best angle and give my thoughts, one day i would love to be goal judge using all those better technology. But this one i don't think its a goal its grabbing a piece of the goal line meaning it

@meany1023 I see you don't understand the rules, but that's expected from a Flames fan. The puck has to completely cross the line to count, and you can't tell if it did or not cause 1. terrible angle 2. it was up in the air 3. on end. Damn inbreds
BoobWoong 7 months ago
thing is, the puck was in, yes. but if you get a goal off your skate, it does not count as a goal.

edwintait 7 months ago
I'm a Wings fan, so I have no bias. But that was originally called "no goal." To overturn something, there needs to be video evidence. None of their angles showed the puck passing the redline. And the angle where it looks like it is in is a bad angle because the puck is up in the air which gives the illusion of it being in the net. But like Ron Maclean said, "There was less evidence than the Martha Stuart trial." So it couldn't be overturned

I agree it was a goal, and while I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories, I do believe that from an NHL perspective, its way better to get Tamapa to win the cup, as they don't have a solid franchise there, while pretty much all Canadian cities do.
With that being said, that goal wasn't in OT, so Tampa still could have responded, while that goal was huge, we don't know if it was the game winner.
ytviscool 8 months ago
Fluke run? lol get your head out of your butt - we lost and had 40,000 people on the red mile to celebrate our team making it as far as they did - Tampa Bay had less than 10,000 people at their victory parade - plus Tampa Bay 'fans' told me they were going to 'repeat' the next year even though there was already an announced lockout - talk about a deserving city
Circagon 8 months ago
@Circagon What does having 40,000 people (as if that was a lot of people, didn't Boston have over ONE MILLION fans at their cup parade? 40k! Ooh wow lol, gtfo) have to do with the fact that Calgary finished 6th in the West and fluked their way to the finals? Only the 8th place Oilers in 06 could be called flukier. 40,000 LMAO

@meany1023 Actually I think Boston had over 20 Canadians on their team. Certainly more than the Canucks.
VancouverChokers 6 months ago
The game wasn't reviewed because the heads of the NHL were in the building, their box was being renovated or some such so they kicked the goal review judges out of their booth so the heads had a place to hang out - thus the goal was not reviewed - the only people that saw the goal were the cameramen - and you can locate them and ask them - I did
Circagon 8 months ago
puck was slightly in the air, so when it was looked at in the angle shot, it appeared to be completely over the line.... tough loss

We all know about the Calgary Flames 2004 Playoff Conspiracy. Game 6 against Tampa The Flames scored the puck in the net and it was not called by the Refs. Lucky for Tampa
Booze129 8 months ago
It wasn't a goal, because Gelinas kicked it in. It may be difficult to see in this video, but check other videos of the play. Gelinas was slowing down as he approached the Lightning net, but his foot knocked the puck to the goal line while moving forward. That is a KICK. And that is exactly why the goal wasn't reviewed.
stephl349 8 months ago
@stephl349
It WASN'T a KICKING MOTION! If it was then its explainable and would be to obvious to wave it off.
RealMaximusPrime 8 months ago
@RealMaximusPrime Oh yeah? Then why wasn't the goal reviewed then? And don't go off about there being some stupid conspiracy against the Flames......the very idea is ridiculous.
stephl349 8 months ago
@stephl349 It was reviewed! The ice the he kicked up was blocking the view from the one side, and the goalie was blocking from the otherside so you coulnd't see shit. That goal was in the fucking net, and it didnt even come close to his foot until it bounced back out
jemappelkatie 8 months ago
@stephl349 You clearly do not understand the rules at all. Stopping in front of the net is stopping in front of the net. He didn't make a distinct kicking motion with his leg, his knee didn't even bend. ANother reason why bitches should have no say in sports. Get the fuck out.

ultimiteflamesfan123 9 months ago
@ultimiteflamesfan123
Actually, you should get your facts straight. The score was 2-2. This took place in the third period, which no (official) goals were scored. Tampa Bay and Calgary both scored twice in the second period. So, if you think it was a goal, it was the Stanley Cup winning goal.
mbw4444 7 months ago
I don't really know if it was a goal, but clearly all the dislikes are because of your lack of research. They lost game 7 2-1 with several glorious chances to tie it up, it breaks my heart just as much as anyone else to watch these videos.

Yes I do believe that was a goal, but to say Calgary was cheated of the cup isn't fair to say. How do you know what would have happened in the final 6 minutes? Tampa Bay could have tied it up. No one will ever know. But ya it was a big screw up.

tommymonsternz 9 months ago
If you don't believe there is bias in the NHL in favour of the teams in larger markets, you are naive. I used to work for one of the Calgary Flames sponsors, and the shady business that happened between the franchise and my employer was appalling. How much worse must it be on the league-wide scale.
When a goal like that goes to review, the consideration is this: "Which call earns the NHL more money, and can we get away with making that call?"
ddpsp 9 months ago
@ddpsp So if the NHL FAVORS larger market teams, why isn't Boston, New York, LA, Washington, Toronto or Chicago in the Finals yearly? Going by your logic it shouldn't matter how good your team is, but how good your Metro population is.
acman247365 9 months ago
@acman247365 My argument was based on reasoned inference and not on applied logic. Logic is not the be all and end all of investigative thought. With that said, it is ironic that you criticize my "logic" while simultaneously failing to employ logic yourself.
Simply because there is bias in the goal review room does not mean the entire league is choreographed from top to bottom, season to season. It means that the monetary implications of close calls influence those calls. Nothing more.
ddpsp 9 months ago
"A crime against humanity" fuck take it easy buddy!
273Banjo 10 months ago
lol poor babies. one missed call and they lose an entire series i can totally see the reasoning behind that. If they flames truly did deserve the cup, they would have come back, scored a goal in game 6 to win it, or just not shit the bed in game 7. Tampa was the better team in a 7 game series. They deserved the cup. Stop blaming one missed call (might not a have been in any way...) on an entire series
guynumber11 10 months ago
@guynumber11
Sorry but you have got to rise above bad call.

ok... we have to look at this as the rule book states... that shot of gelinas scoring couldve been just a weird camera angle... dont forget if the puck is up in the air some white of the ice will show... we will never ever know if that puck went in, in fact probably only khabibulin will ever know (and you think he'd actually admit it? no) the reason this was called no goal is because it was inconclusive.. when a play is inconclusive the ref's origional call stands... which was in fact.. no goal

Why don't you have the cup?
Well lets see.
