@clcpp4 How fast we go depends on the road and traffic (might be the same in the US ^^) The average engine can go about 65 mph. Face it, European can afford small trucks that do the same job, a US truck wouldn't manage to move around a 2000 year old city center or would have problems in the norwegian mountains.

And btw.: The average fire vehicle is smaller, but for example the biggest aerial platform is in Europe, not the US!

P.S.: The Rumbler is used in Europe at some fire departments.

Typical european fire truck with a Martins Horn instead of a electric siren. Blue lights are every where in Europe. US uses red/blue light combination and either electronic or mechanical sirens like a Federal Q2.

Because it is a machine "forest fires" and in forest we have not need of credit note of big revolving light as in the United States. To us, in France, we are a simple country with the good material(equipment) even if you, American was not in the habit, serte you have enormous machine, but I do not think that it is also good as French machine.

blackhawk: The Q was  the loudest mechanical siren made for emergency vehicles. It is 10" in diameter. The other sirens were 8" or less.

Do not forget the Sireno 40010 and the Mars Commander, both 10" rotor sirens. In fact Sireno claimed in their specs that it was louder than the Q. Search "Sireno 40010" to see mine.

henry455:: I had forgotten about the Sireno. In general, I think the Sirenos were a little louder than their Federal counterparts. Did Mars actually make their own siren? The few I've seen looked like Qs with a Mars insignia.

Sireno claims in their brochure 109 db @ 100 ft., this calculates to 129 db @ 10 ft. It's hard for me to believe its 6 db louder than a Q @ 123 db. The Mars Commander probably was made by Federal, it looks almost identical except for the grill and the fact it was not a coaster siren but direct drive.

@willis5729 not all european fire trucks are weird and have hooible sirens!! german fire trucks have most times a very modern design and are filled with high-tech stuff. please have a look at the cars of the fire departments: Feuerwehr-Frankfurt am Main Feuerwehr-Berlin Feuerwehr-Stuttgart Feuerwehr-Aschaffenburg Feuerwehr-Erfurt the trucks of these FD´s are german standart fire trucks. and you´ll see, they have more and a better equipment on board than us-trucks.
