  • MICROSOFT GOES TAPPING :-)

  • It looks like only the last 4 frets of this guitar are scalloped.

The guitar is not though right?

  • Dude you play just like my big brother erick montejano!!!!!

  • sweet Vai costum!

  • Dave Arazmo rip off.. :-D

  • @hellraiser7974 who?! More Dave Kilminster

  • could you explain how to tap when you are holding your pick beacuse every body how is teaching tapping doesnt hold there pick like you

  • @Avitan01 i think if you tap with your middle finger it frees you to hold the pick with your 1st finger. Hope this helps

  • You got that from Dave Kilminster! does 'how to play fast' ring a bell?

  • @Christownsme well spotted!!!

  • if this is masterclass then im allready a pro and ive only played 2 months.......

  • honestly using more than one finger with the 1st lick is pointless. cool little lick but very basic. youre a decent teacher though

  • I cannot believe that anyone would have anything but something positive to say about this video. Very well explained lesson, Darren!

  • That would be a cool ringtone

  • Nice capo :)

  • @DarrenDonohoeguitar ok but they are not skilled, they play for sport because they are too lazy to learn proper muting like rusty cooley or chris broderick.

  • @gshredder5150 How is that cheating? Using initiative to make things easier, more efficient and most importantly sound good, is a staple of good guitar playing. Do you think economy picking is 'cheating'?

  • @benzie101 economy picking is not cheating, thats a valid technique used by millions of players...but thats beside the point fucktard, what im trying to explain to you is that dampening is cheating, because it removes the rawness,a nd sound, seriously this is why people hate shredding, because if a guitarist attempts licks with a dampener it becomes a sport kind like using steroids, he should no how to keep it muted using his hands only, look at rusty cooley, ,chris broderick,do they use a muter?

  • @gshredder5150 Uhm, guitar isn't a sport. To a real musician the most important thing should be the music and the sound that's produced, not the technical ability involved. Thinking that you 'should' know how to keep it muted using your hands is more like sport mentality, implying that there is a certain way to do things and that there are rules. There's nothing wrong with using a dampener if you think it adds clarity to the melody.

  • @benzie101 ill will admit thats true but also music is about feel too is the hair band connected to your body? no so your not actually hearing your soul play its just mindless notes that are always going to be perfect..but i guess if it wasto noisey then people would troll him about the noise so its kinda a double edged sword,so the basic point is would he rather have people complain about the hairbands or him being sloppy and noisey so i guess every body feels differnr

  • @gshredder5150 look man, ive plenty of playing without the damn hairband. And i've heard your playing on your channel.....man...im sorry but you've a long way to go yet!!! :)

  • @gshredder5150 Dude, that's kind of a null point. Is the guitar connected to your body? No... You could think of the hairband as an extension to your instrument. If the guitar was originally designed with a hair band on it I'm sure you wouldn't be complaining. And I think a rattling open g string is an imperfection that can be happily removed without taking away from the 'soul' in the performers playing?

  • @gshredder5150 Pianos also have string dampers...

  • @gshredder5150 Pianos have string dampers...

  • @gshredder5150 I use a hairband when I play alot of the time and its necessary to use one at times..and besides this is a good demo!

  • Comment removed

  • Hair bands are as much cheating as the use of an amplifier.Playing guitar is not a sport its about making music. As for hair bands most of the greats use them especially in the studio where a little noise here and there can destroy a perfectly good take.Darren if you have some info or training course in mind about playing scales and arpeggios using 8 finger tapping and basically shredding with the right hand please let me know.

  • @denisgiann How is an amplifier cheating? Just curious. :3

  • @xninjamasterx1 Since guitar playing isnt in the olympics mate nothing is cheating. But if you start saying a hairband is cheating cause it helps you with extra noise..a capo is cheating cause its saves you from barring all the time then everything is cheating.Same as an amplifier it distorts the natural sound of the guitar or effects for that matter etc etc etc.You are making music and those are the tools for the job.Period. iam tired of every noob little kid thinking this is a contest.

  • @denisgiann Noob shmoob. You're probably 20 yrs old if you get p.o.ed by someone saying a hairband is cheating. A hairband is cheating because it allows a player to be sloppy. Just like distortion does. Practice makes perfect and Steve Vai and others that don't use hairbands are a testament to that. If you want to call me a noob too then ok but I've probably been playing guitar longer than you've been alive

  • @chillichomper iam 37 mate.Everything is a tool for a job.Nothing more nothing less. You use distortion not cause it makes you less sloppy but cause you want a certain sound.like you use a certain amp.You say Vai i say Govan that can dance circles around him with or without hairband.Check him playing without one and then come and tell me he needs it to sound amazing. If he feels like it..he does..cause for him its just a tool.He cant cheat cause he is not in a ..race of some sort.

  • @denisgiann amen

  • @DarrenDonohoeguitar Well maybe not CHEATING but it definately makes things easier. Controlling noise is one of the most challenging things when playing fast licks, and bands like yours just get rid of the problem without any skill :O I never seen Guthrie play with a hair band on his guitar before actually, I should have a browse ;) Nice playing dude.

  • @morphicwraith you tube- 'Guthrie Govan - plays "Sevens" Live'

Check this link. look at one minute in.

  • dude i have no idea why everyone is going mad about you dampening the strings , if they had any sense they'd probably realise that your only dampening them for the video so there are no mistakes on camera :) not like you play with it on all the time , and your irish right ? me too ha !! so im gonna sub for the irsh part nd the playing part haha

  • Very good lesson. I like it ;D

  • hair bands are for gays :P jk, awesome video its really good to see some tapping stuff that isnt evh's eruption!! do you recon you could post some more tapping stuff, perhaps a few more licks and a bit less fret numbers? most people that are competent enough to use this technique know scale patterns

ps if youre not familiar with his work in symphony x, look up michael romeo tapping

  • @gshredder5150 He probably did it for good quality sound on his youtube video.

    Now lets see your video.

  • @gshredder5150 its not cheating. i want to see you do better without it and high gain+distortion.

  • @joesimmons90 i personnnaly can but i do nawt have camera nor do i have interest in posting a vid for your whim,,btw i have a recorder u can go to my channel and hear how clean i is,oh and i 4 got 2 say they are not shredd songs

  • you could tap that same lick with one finger....but still very well done man! You have some serious skills

  • if your complaining about fret markers and tabs after he explains these licks. you should not be learning these licks yet

  • That is not tapping. those are 3 finger hammer ons and pull offs. Before you teach please learn the difference of what tapping vs hammer ons actually are.

  • @Vesta20 tapping is doing hammer ons and pull offs using fingers on your picking hand. before you comment please learn anything about guitar because you are a retard

  • @yngvaibucketrucci Oh insult me you asshole, I was trying to correct your error now you can go fuck yourself. NO TAPPING IS NOT the same as 3 or 4 finger hammer ons and pullofs , like I siad moron before you attempt to teach learn your guitar language, BTW you suck at guitar.

  • @Vesta20 uh what the hell, firstly how would you define tapping because to everyone else who plays guitar this is what it is, and also its not my video you strange motherfucker

  • Cool ur Irish me too :-P fekin kick ass lesson nice to see a good irish guitar player for a change

  • awesome tutorial!Lick 3 is the best

  • y do u put a bobble at the end of ur guitar?????

  • @wales2k4eva Probaly to kill the strings, so there wont be any extra noise

  • Good to see an

Irish electric player doing a good job

  • But all notes are explained?

  • great lesson! i had fun with 1 and 3, for the ending root notes, i would just slap the harmonic

  • Look where the big leaves are. These are your fret markers.

  • Here's a tip for that, since I own one of those. Only the frets that are supposed to be marked have the lighter inlay and big leaves, the others have the little leaves and don't stand out as much. :]

  • @Wiseman501

    mind = BLOWN!

  • @mitchtickler 3-5-7-9-12 etc are actually marked. They are the big leaves on the vine inlays

  • @mitchtickler actually they are marked. every fret that has large leaves is a fret that's usually marked on other guitars.

  • @mitchtickler ibanez tree of life has those leafs for fretmarks

  • @ahinko Wow! After ONE year, you are the 1st person to tell me that (not) Thanks...

  • @mitchtickler its a fuckin signature model its what the person who designed it wanted and that person happens to be one of the greatest guitar players of all time and his name is Steve vai

  • @TKG1201 Oh wow! Thanks, you have been must helpful...

  • @mitchtickler You should change your name to turdtickler.

  • @SomeProGamer Why?

  • @mitchtickler the markers are the big flowers :p

  • @mitchtickler I don't know about you but I'd rather have an awesome design like this on my fretboard than markers.

  • @mitchtickler And btw, the leaves ARE fret markers, if you, ya know...paid attention

  • @xninjamasterx1 Ha, Your Grammer is terrible! If you paid better attention in School you wouldn't be such a retard! Further more, you are about the 26,000 person in the last year to tell me about the Gay leaves on this shitty sounding asian guitar.

  • @mitchtickler That's kinda Steve Vai's guitar, if I'm correct. Also, "gay" does not mean "stupid", it mean's "happy" or "homosexual". If YOU would have paid better attention in school maybe you would know the definition. You spelled "grammar" wrong. Even if I didn't pay attention in school, I wouldn't be retarded. Lastly, uneducated criticism of INTERNET videos just showing a guy trying to help other guitarists is kinda...hmmm... pointless?

  • @xninjamasterx1 Hmmm this Guitar is Happy! I like you! Do you like Me?

  • @mitchtickler BLOCKED!

  • @DarrenDonohoeguitar Absolutely the best one word response ever! This video and response made my day! I love what you're doing. Thanks! Btw, the tone is awesome!!! And...I learned alot. Thx again! :-)

  • but you knox the jem555 its very very god to its not bad why steve vai never play with a jem555 signature ???

  • It's like watching a great illusionist demonstrate tricks! Thank you so much for revealing the secrets.

  • cant it be both? :)

  • whats the difference beetween ibanez steve vai and jem7v why you rae chosen jem7v and not jem555 ?? THANSK

  • jem555 is made in korea, so it plays less smooth and the tremolo is not as good, it's the same tremolo as on guitars that are 300$

  • damn .. no comment

    5 stars

  • Thank you! :)

  • who?

  • hey mate what is that high tech green thing you are using on the third fret

  • Its two hair bands.... :D

It covers string noise which is tough to not get with these sorta licks... :(

  • cool i'm gonna do that.... awesome.

  • guitar is b-e-a-utiful

  • you are awesome

    thanks

    =D

  • how much does that vai guitar cost?

    greetings =)

  • $2,599.99 i want one.

  • Thanks man!

  • fake ..

  • Nope man...thanks for watching though

  • do us a favour and dont comment if you dont know anything please.

and to Darren cheers for the lesson. : )

    Thats Rockin!!!!

  • Thanks man!! :D

  • This is pretty good but playing it without the rubber band is something else

  • i can play those licks without a band...some are too difficult though! :(

  • Hahah i hear ya! Still good stuff none the less!
