  • why did you stop making video's?

  • are you going to cut a cd?

  • Fretless bass of course. Great tone and great solo !

  • what strings are those?

  • to me, this is the most inspiring improv on the net.....you and another guy are the reason I bought a GWB.

    Thanks..

  • Have you heard of/listened to Robert Fripp? This really reminds me of his work with Brian Eno (in a good way), except you're obviously playing a bass instead of a guitar.

Really enjoyed this as well as your other improvs.

  • I still have this and another of yours '6 string Jam' on my favourites because i love your tone and your approach to your solo's I still enjoy them frequently......

  • hey there!! you are a one hot talented bassist !!! by the way, your bass looks great and sounds awesome too!! what model is that? tanx!!!

  • Sounds really good!!... What kind of Amp do you use?

  • @tazo300

On this track I just went direct into my comp and used a nice plugin called bluetubes to warm it up. These days I use an orage terror bass, it's 500 watts and it's the size of a lunchbox, love it!

  • I saw this so many years ago and it's still in the back of my mind. Yes, it's that beautiful.

  • @TugaPipeJunior

Thank you very much! That means a lot to me. Thanks for watching.

  • why isn't it possible to hear?

  • Sounds very similar to Jaco in a way. Very cool. :)

  • That particular bass (Ibanez Gary Willis Signature) with a bridge-pickup tone and bright fingerboard - Jaco mostly used his bridge pup and put a coating of epoxy on his fretboard to protective against wear from Roundwound strings, leading to a very bright tone. But it's also similar that there's a definite melody and chord changes to this piece which Jaco had mastered and lots of fretless players don't. Amazing work from a pro-level player!

  • Now you're pissing me off... You're too good and that was beautiful.

  • I think you might be my new favorite bassist. And I think you just gave me fretless GAS as well as 6 string GAS.

For those of you who don't know GAS = Gear/Guitar Acquisition Syndrome

  • reminds me of a richard bona improv where he plays with his voice and percussion instruments..

  • I'm not so fussy about the harmonic structure of this piece, but really great sound and technique. Good note choice too.

  • i want it!!!!!!!

  • nice when you throw in the first few harmionics from a portrait of tracy.

  • I wish I had wrote this :( Man, all your original songs are wonderful !

  • slpendid!!! very good line loop and chorus ;-)

  • You make me wanna go practice...

  • very nice...slow, methodical and precise.

  • love the tone. :)

  • loving the groove wiht the harmonics, this is a great loop

  • I dont really know what else to say except thank you for existing. Whether or not you are a good person or a piece of shit, your music made me feel peace and ecstasy at the same time..like some kind of self enlightened awakening into Nirvana...ha. So thanks for making me want to live a little bit longer bud.

  • Beautiful

  • hello, i read something you wrote about a vst loop plugin, and i was wondering if you would show me what you mean, because i cant afford a loop station :)

  • is that fretless

  • NICE....NICE BASS GUITAR TOO...

  • One of the most beautiful bass compositions I've heard. Exactly the kind of music I want to be making. What have you done to know how to make beautiful music?

  • This should be named "Od' to Jaco" or in memory of Jaco. :)

  • With all respect, I prefer this compared to many of Jaco's compositions. Although Donna Lee and Teen Town are spectacular.

  • Interesting that you should say that because it turns out one of my favorite pieces by Jaco was Teen Town. With all respect, I agree with your statement about your comparison. This is one of my favorite video's you have.

  • I must agree, you really can't beat Teen Town. This music is more ambient which gives the brain more time to take in the emotion.

  • You should save what you stated as a quote, -"this music is more ambient which gives the brain more time to take in the emotion." Thats a great way of describing it!

  • Haha thanks. I really love the major scale form he's using. It really enlightens me. :)

  • Never thought it that way, but it's true. This music is less demanding to the brain, but also beautiful. By the way there's no harmonic movement on that improv, so there's no much tension in it.

  • Very tasteful indeed!

  • This peice takes me out of this World. Wonderful Jaco bass sound. Simply Beautiful.

  • wauuww!!

  • I love this. what looping system are you using? i have a digitech jam man and i love it

  • It's called the Infinite Loopazoide, which is a nice VST plugin. It's pretty good but having pedals is always easier. For recording I'm using Abelton Live which also has nice looping capabilities, plus you can assign midi controllers easily.

  • You have an amazing tone with that fretless, really amazing. Mix of Jaco/ Willis... keep up the good work and keep posting!! :) Greetings from Chicago

  • Great. Love it. Makes me want to knock the dust off my fretless and get to work.

  • i watch this vid religiously, truly amazing.

  • wow that was really cool

  • this is really sick man good job

  • Wow, thats amazing. I was started to wonder how this video would turn out coz the loop wasnt really doin anythin for me, but once the actual melody kicked in you blew me away. How long have you been playing again?

    5/5

    ROCK ON!

  • Thanks again BassMasterG! I've been playing for too long now, I think it's been 14 years, how time flies.

  • Wow that explains your skill man. I havent even been playin for 3 lol

  • Time does not teach emotion though my friend. That is something we all learn in our own time. Unfortunately some players don't even find it at all. I am starting to find my heart through my bass playing.

It's a mixture of natural thought, theory, and dynamics.

  • T'es un bon bassiste j adore ta compo je l a regarde souvent....Yvas from Brussels Belgium

  • You're absoulutely fantastic. And I know you know that well. I just can't understand why you're not famous. Man I think you should be. Groovy, original, and anything that's needed in this stuff. Al the best.

    Adam Gordon

  • richard bona watch out i see one on the rise!!

  • ohh man :perfect

    i buy you re cd

    sounds good

  • hmmm....

  • the worst thing i can say is that it is great playing with great sound.

  • smooth intersting inspiring

  • Can we get anything better on youtube ?

    Don't think so.

    Very inspiring !

  • So sweet... you're simply great.. sound, ideas.. wonderful!

  • hey man.. don't stop making music! you got de talent! i hope you make more videos... congratulations.. God bless

  • Great playing, just ordered a fretless, love the sound, dont think I`ll sound quiet that sweet. . . .

  • Reall nice playing. I like how your solo in upper register is very lyrical and sweet and you don't neglect the lower register. Nice harmonic and chordal work as well. I agree with some of the other comments - I hear Mark Egan and Manring (like that's bad?). All the best.

  • what kind of bass is that

  • An Ibanez Gary Willis signature fretless GWB-1 model (you can tell the difference from the newer, far more expensive GWB-1005 by the headstock: the 1005 has a black headstock while the original has a matching natural ash). A wonderfully sound and playing bass as long as you like tight string-spacing (16.5mm).

Amazing arraignment, tone, and playing. *Very* nicely done!

  • I love your playing doghouse! bring us more!

  • makes me feel like i first heard "monster house" from michael manring

  • Nice sound. Reminds me of Mark Egan

  • dammit now i must get a fretless.. thanks for one upping my game mr.doghouse :) FANTASTIC playing bro.. wow

  • its cool and all but steal it just nice

  • beautiful song... great tone.. great harmonics... congratulations.. just listening this a lot of times..

  • great play man..five stars...

  • there are a lot of really great players on YouTube... and this is one more example. What does this teach us boys and girls? That the music industry sucks... all the good musicians have to play in their bedroom for the most part.

  • Every time I hear this improv it gives me hope... Yeah I know it sounds corny but that's how I feel it

  • Beatiful playing, made me smile!

  • wow u got 17400 views!!! i wish people woudl come see my bass vids too! =)

  • Yeah I guess I got lucky with some keywords. You should post some longer bass vids, I like what I've seen but they are all under 50 seconds long and seem to be recorded on a cell phone. I dig your band though, cool songs and playing, you ever tour out West?

  • are you a pro or just very good?

  • can i get the tabs for that? (just kidding). Cool vibe though.

  • this never gets old. been watchin it religiously since nov. 06

  • sin palabras...un groso!

  • Awesome playing and tone.

    What gear do you use?

  • it reminds me of wootens big country.. with his band the flecktones.. real nice

  • fantastic

  • Yeah man, I dig your playing....is that an american made Willis or Japanese?

  • this dude is AweSome!!!

  • i found this pritty late in the night ...

and it was so perfect it made fall asleep on my table

  • Yeah just watching it I realize how much of a lullaby it is. Makes me wish I didn't play fast lines in the middle as it seems out of place, oh well it's improv.

  • muito bom cara! gostei!

  • modern day jaco!

  • That, was awesome. I loved it.

  • i just wanted to compliment you man. i strive to be as good as you. . . you are a true inspiration to people like me....very very awesome. if i could give you more then 5 stars i would.

  • ur good man! im just learning how to play the bass and this is exactly the type pf music i wanna play! good shit man! beautiful.

  • Beautiful, period.

  • Beautiful. I wanted to learn this but I only have a 4 string. In fact, a 4 string acoustic electric - very hard to get resonant harmonics.

That was some beautiful shit. Jaco would be proud. Seriously, I don't mean that in a Jaco clone sorta way.

I wanted to be clear on that.

  • Love the goatee, it looks pretty good on ya!

  • Is this with the America Bart pickup? or the Japanese/korean.

  • Does your name mean that your in the dog house for your playing bass? if so, that sucks for you, but I'm sure that just gives you more drive to follow who you are as a bassist. You are on my favorites list, you are the man, keep on keeping on.

  • great, also very relaxing

  • So, so, so beautiful.

  • Simply fantastic acuity, I guess you were deprived of a Playstation or Ninetndo when you were 12.

  • Another beautiful bit of playing.

  • Count me as one who wants to buy the album when it is available. No, make that the DVD -- I want the DVD so I watch watch too.

What make bass is that? And amp and cab? It is a beautiful sound.

  • it´s an Ibanez GWB1 Gary Willis signature model.

  • Precioso, bellisimo

  • That almost brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful.

  • Great sound!!!Reminds me of Gary Willis!!!He looks a little like Gary without the cap!!!

  • Great tone, vibrato, AND phrasing. Keep a level head, compose, and keep practicing. I dig it!

  • WHy are u not famous?

  • Hey Man.. Great sound, beatiful solo.

  • First of all, you are great.

Everything started with a nice feeling. Somehow I felt a lack of confidence in this video and that's why it got boring after a while.

The shorter the better I think when it comes to improvising with a fretless. ;)

  • Nice Ideas Man - Where's the Album??? I want the first copy!

  • it would make mike manring proud

  • nice playing dude, check out my vids see what ya think

  • Its so refreshing to hear actual talent on this site. Put out a 6 track demo of your improv stuff and send it out man. I there are cats that are hungry for this type of playing. Keep it up!

  • chido!

  • interesting... very nice tone.

  • I do realize you're playing the Gary Willis signature bass, but it's still incredible that you manage to sound almost exactly like him.

  • Impressive Playing there! The Infinite looper has given you some justice, not many bassists can tackle the timing

issues. As a Bassist myself, I'am happy that there are still people like you hanging around. It is a shame that your talent can be overshadowed by those who try to emulate this kind of style. Obviously this time you've shone and shown the world what it is to hear the famous growl again.

  • BEAUTIFUL

    VERY GOOD MAN!!!

    IGOR

  • My new favorite. You do my soul good.

  • Wow! Musical! I love your fretless playing.

  • Finaly! It's nice to hear someone play MUSIC

  • very good man!!!

  • i love htat nasty gary willis bass.. i want one...

  • complete mastery - feel, technique, and originality

  • Mate - that was lovely - you are a plyaer after my own heart, I'm a huge Willis fan as well - but I think you have a really great touch and your phrasing leaves little on nothing to be desired - it's great to hear some really musical bass playing on the web for once!

Big respect - let us all know when you get some studio recordings together - I can hear you have some strong compositional ideas as well, like the chord melody at the end of the this piece - great stuff.

    Mike

  • awesome stuff!! very atmospheric.. gr8 vid!

  • one of the very few REALLY GOOD youtube vids!

  • beautiful

  • Great Song! Are you using Ableton Live on the track? Great use of harmonics, rhythm, and that wonderful GW105!

  • I do use Ableton Live but on this track I am using a vst plugin called Infinite Loopazoid, weird name but a really cool plugin. It has four tracks which are all in sync and can be muted, panned, re-recorded, deleted etc all in real-time. This song is more about the improv but I'd like to get into that art of looping more. And yes the GW105 is great, every bassist deserves one!

  • Great job man~ Good touch~ nice ear!

  • you seriously need to put out a solo cd. i could learn a lot from your phrasing and feel. you are a true bassist.

  • man, you are a special player. that was absolutely excellent. keep posting more, I love your melodies. truly great stuff.

  • Great feeling, great tone, good job man.

  • Wow... beautiful man... Jaco'd be proud.

  • Again, wonderful!

  • beautiful how you take the harmonics as a base.Your tone is perfect.Good vibrato-timing too.

resonantdoghouse : your the man !

  • That was fantastic. From watching your videos I can see you play exactly the way I *try* to play (I ultimately fail at playing that well. I lack the restraint and familiarity with non-basic theory). Great job, keep the videos coming!

  • Go brotha Jim. Yr fingers are on fire!!

  • This is really sweet. I love your phrasing. Post more!
