Have you heard of/listened to Robert Fripp? This really reminds me of his work with Brian Eno (in a good way), except you're obviously playing a bass instead of a guitar.
Really enjoyed this as well as your other improvs.
I still have this and another of yours '6 string Jam' on my favourites because i love your tone and your approach to your solo's I still enjoy them frequently......
On this track I just went direct into my comp and used a nice plugin called bluetubes to warm it up. These days I use an orage terror bass, it's 500 watts and it's the size of a lunchbox, love it!
That particular bass (Ibanez Gary Willis Signature) with a bridge-pickup tone and bright fingerboard - Jaco mostly used his bridge pup and put a coating of epoxy on his fretboard to protective against wear from Roundwound strings, leading to a very bright tone. But it's also similar that there's a definite melody and chord changes to this piece which Jaco had mastered and lots of fretless players don't. Amazing work from a pro-level player!
I dont really know what else to say except thank you for existing. Whether or not you are a good person or a piece of shit, your music made me feel peace and ecstasy at the same time..like some kind of self enlightened awakening into Nirvana...ha. So thanks for making me want to live a little bit longer bud.
hello, i read something you wrote about a vst loop plugin, and i was wondering if you would show me what you mean, because i cant afford a loop station :)
One of the most beautiful bass compositions I've heard. Exactly the kind of music I want to be making. What have you done to know how to make beautiful music?
Interesting that you should say that because it turns out one of my favorite pieces by Jaco was Teen Town. With all respect, I agree with your statement about your comparison. This is one of my favorite video's you have.
You should save what you stated as a quote, -"this music is more ambient which gives the brain more time to take in the emotion." Thats a great way of describing it!
Never thought it that way, but it's true. This music is less demanding to the brain, but also beautiful. By the way there's no harmonic movement on that improv, so there's no much tension in it.
It's called the Infinite Loopazoide, which is a nice VST plugin. It's pretty good but having pedals is always easier. For recording I'm using Abelton Live which also has nice looping capabilities, plus you can assign midi controllers easily.
You have an amazing tone with that fretless, really amazing. Mix of Jaco/ Willis... keep up the good work and keep posting!! :) Greetings from Chicago
Wow, thats amazing. I was started to wonder how this video would turn out coz the loop wasnt really doin anythin for me, but once the actual melody kicked in you blew me away. How long have you been playing again?
Time does not teach emotion though my friend. That is something we all learn in our own time. Unfortunately some players don't even find it at all. I am starting to find my heart through my bass playing.
It's a mixture of natural thought, theory, and dynamics.
You're absoulutely fantastic. And I know you know that well. I just can't understand why you're not famous. Man I think you should be. Groovy, original, and anything that's needed in this stuff. Al the best.
Reall nice playing. I like how your solo in upper register is very lyrical and sweet and you don't neglect the lower register. Nice harmonic and chordal work as well. I agree with some of the other comments - I hear Mark Egan and Manring (like that's bad?). All the best.
An Ibanez Gary Willis signature fretless GWB-1 model (you can tell the difference from the newer, far more expensive GWB-1005 by the headstock: the 1005 has a black headstock while the original has a matching natural ash). A wonderfully sound and playing bass as long as you like tight string-spacing (16.5mm).
Amazing arraignment, tone, and playing. *Very* nicely done!
there are a lot of really great players on YouTube... and this is one more example. What does this teach us boys and girls? That the music industry sucks... all the good musicians have to play in their bedroom for the most part.
Yeah I guess I got lucky with some keywords. You should post some longer bass vids, I like what I've seen but they are all under 50 seconds long and seem to be recorded on a cell phone. I dig your band though, cool songs and playing, you ever tour out West?
Yeah just watching it I realize how much of a lullaby it is. Makes me wish I didn't play fast lines in the middle as it seems out of place, oh well it's improv.
i just wanted to compliment you man. i strive to be as good as you. . . you are a true inspiration to people like me....very very awesome. if i could give you more then 5 stars i would.
Does your name mean that your in the dog house for your playing bass? if so, that sucks for you, but I'm sure that just gives you more drive to follow who you are as a bassist. You are on my favorites list, you are the man, keep on keeping on.
Its so refreshing to hear actual talent on this site. Put out a 6 track demo of your improv stuff and send it out man. I there are cats that are hungry for this type of playing. Keep it up!
Impressive Playing there! The Infinite looper has given you some justice, not many bassists can tackle the timing
issues. As a Bassist myself, I'am happy that there are still people like you hanging around. It is a shame that your talent can be overshadowed by those who try to emulate this kind of style. Obviously this time you've shone and shown the world what it is to hear the famous growl again.
Mate - that was lovely - you are a plyaer after my own heart, I'm a huge Willis fan as well - but I think you have a really great touch and your phrasing leaves little on nothing to be desired - it's great to hear some really musical bass playing on the web for once!
Big respect - let us all know when you get some studio recordings together - I can hear you have some strong compositional ideas as well, like the chord melody at the end of the this piece - great stuff.
