it is very hard to get popular on youtube especially for new channels.
although everyone is writing 'check out my channel', i think you should do that (i do that aswell) because the videos might be really good although no one is watching them.
so: check out my channel about photography and comedy!
Actually, I got the haier for $20 + $8 for shipping. It's not HD but it is handy not to mention for extreme low angles, filming yourself, and other monitor needs.
I'm wondering if any of these people have ever been on a film set. I'm a cinematographer and we shoot on these cameras all the time with rigs similar to this. The only thing I would do is get a donut for your Mattebox so it actually keeps out light like it's supposed to.
Also, for everyone out there who thinks that 5D video is superior, I disagree. The 7D, although a crop sensor camera, has a sensor that is equivalent to super 35mm film. Guess what Hollywood films are shot on? Super 35mm(most
Film is scanned at 4-6K but it all depends on what the print is scanned in at.
As far as frame size goes, APS-C sensors are smaller by about 1.5x Full Frame 35 sensors. Rarely is anything filmed in Full Frame, it's usually filmed at super 35 which widens the image and is more similar to APS-C sized sensors.
A Follow Focus is an important film tool and having an HD monitor allows the AC to pull focus accurately.
Monitor can cost as low as $44 and doesn't need to be HD. FOllow focus is for noobs. Barn doors are fine but I don't see why this rig for $2-3000 is worth it. It doesn't have any stabilization that comes close to a tiffen steadicam and isn't better (if at all) than a home made shoulder rig. I just don't friggin get it.
@ZeroSynth You do know a handheld shoulder rig is a different piece of film gear to a Steadicam...? The reason for a rig like this on HDSLR's is to remove the "wobble" you get with just hand holding the camera body itself.
@ChrisGrantHarvey I just mentioned the tiffen steadicam (It obviously has more versatility though it is ridiculously overpriced considering what it probably took to make one of those). Again, I don't think the rig is any better than the merlin for mobility and stabilization.
Technically you want to put a seal on the matte box, no? That way it is actually blocking out the flare, otherwise you can just take those barn doors off of it because they aren't really doing anything...
@bouchandre I think it's because the 7D is a cropped sensor as apposed to a full frame sensor such as the Canon 5D. To get the look of a 50mm wide lens on a cropped sensor you will need to use a 30mm lens. Typically you need to times the mm on a lens by 1.6 to find out what it will work out as. (I know this sounds confusing)
So a 50mm X 1.6 = 80mm lens, and a 30mm X 1.6 = 48mm (Closest you will get to 50mm)
Hope this kinda helps, take a look at the DLSR school on Vimeo to help clear this up.
Good visuals can't save a bad story, a good story can save bad visuals. Size should not hold an individual back from capturing what they see. Check out some videos of the 3 stock Technicolor Camera. Possibilities are endless my friends! Procrastinating and bitching wont get the shot you want! Go shoot =)
@pockmarkedbuttocks You obviously have no clue of the capabilities of this Camera. So I won't waste my time trying to explain something you won't ever understand.
@Crash6Nemesis - yes I do, that's why I'm asking the question : Can't they just make a full size HD Video camera? It looks totally gay to have a teeny tiny still camera sitting on a Sachtler tripod, you douche. I love the clarity of the lens and the film look it generates. I just don't see why it has to be with a still camera...?
@pockmarkedbuttocks That was the stupidest thing I've heard. Smaller camera means more flexibility. Now you can get into spaces and angles that with a larger camera you can't. This is opening the doors to newer possibilities. Thats like saying why would they put a camera in a cell phone instead of just making a camera!
@pockmarkedbuttocks I'm going to have to agree with you. Sure this camera is opening doors to new possibilities, but when I see something like this, where there's a cluster of parts over it, I wonder how necessary it really is. I'm not saying they aren't. I bought mine for the purpose of getting great imagery on a smaller/easier scale. I'm tempted into buying accessories, but really, a tripod (and maybe an inexpensive glide cam) is all you need. But what do I know? I go to a city college ;)
So you have a camera like that, and you use windows live Movie Maker?

Okay... the rig is missing little odds and ends like a donut for eg... I simply just filmed the rig when I had time.
Video cameras are shit, the 7D has an 'organic texture' that I personally prefer over ANY video camera out there. Personal choice.

@ChrisGrantHarvey whats an organic texture

why not by a video camera?

@DPAMULTIMEDIA current video cameras suck in my opinion. The 7D has a n organic texture I like over other sensors.

@ChrisGrantHarvey True that.

@DPAMULTIMEDIA Canon's have more lenses available and can be much cheaper on both the entry level and advanced scale.

I own, use, and love my 7D but my bullshit meter is ticking again...
Not that many people seem to care here but, the sensor has to be 24mm x 36mm otherwise it is not equivalent to 35mm film...right????
All digital is equivalent to 4k at best. Film is anywhere between 4k-6k.

All that money for a rig? Why not just buy a 5DmII and a simple shoulder rig....or no shoulder rig at all =/
Not to knock the 7D; but with the money spent, doesnt make sense. its got nothing on 5D video...

@bouchandre The 50mm is not wide because the 7d is a crop sensor camer, is you want a 50mm look you need about a 35mm

AshKilamande 1 year ago
@AshKilamande the follow focus is on the right of the camera.
The z-finder is too expensive, we prefer using the lcd.
ChrisGrantHarvey 1 year ago
@ChrisGrantHarvey oh didn't realize.. yea your right z-finders are quite expensive. btw..how much was the lcd?
AshKilamande 1 year ago
@AshKilamande I see where you are going, I meant to say that I find Zacuto's gear over-priced, I like it but I'm not gonna pay their premiums.
I prefer the LCD to the finder anyway. Don't see a need for it.
