yes but mg is for the earlier lvs. like for lmpq against tauros at early lvs. they will 1hko u. and also for kpq against king slime, or against ali in lpq. but since no one does lpq anymore, no one does ali anymore. but for cpq you can use mg so you wont die and just pick up a pot on the ground. so basically, mg is used for mg and monsters that can kill you 1hko
also, tele is a must. lots easier to get around places and HA will be taken over by SR and maybe even magic claw. and magic armor is dumb, unless you really feel like you must have it.
SR does attack mobs and stronger. but HA's range is much farther. i basically used it for a couple or hits or so if there's only like one monster away from me to draw it towards and figured mind as well do i bit more damage then MC cause it could save me time by needing one less attack. also the teleport distance difference isnt too huge unless you plan to do PQ's that need it at a certain level. for their mp useage, i mean c'mon youre a mage you have plenty and you mostly save pots by partying.
well for magic armor, that's where the emergency tube and hp scrolls come in =]. and MC can take over HA. the points you put into HA can be used for MPE. this will really help you..alot during priest. but i hear from bishops that it mpe is not used anymore because of genesis...eh
i prepared for my 3rd job advancement, yesterday. i went to mu lung (i play mapleSEA) i kept picking peaches and made canned peches (+1000hp) and hunted for 3 drakes blood. i had 50 cans of peaches and when i fought him i had 41 left and used 1 drake blood! then i went to a website for the questions so i finished this 3rd job adv. easily and quickly. i wish i would have recorded.
cause i put MG at 17 since i heal and dont use it like ice/fire mages. so i just put the 3 extra in something else, didnt want it to burn mp when i did use it, rarely..

invincible, bless, in 3rd job there is elemental resistance. so it would actually be pointless maxing it. i would rather get hit 5 less damage and save a few hundred (thats right hundred) mp. considering ill be healing my ass at zombies and mg will only be used for suicide runs and traveling

Like you said , your "MAGES".
During 2nd job adv.
Both ice and fire mage would obtain a higher attack skill which is cold beam and flame arrow respectively.
Naturally , this would decrease their time taken to kill a monster.
But cleric is different,
Cleric is Not an attacking job ,
it's main purpose is to give buffs , Dispel Curse and of course , healing party member.
It's attack is lower then ice and fire.
So, don't compare mage wif a cleric.
