I am from Ladysmith. I am really proud of this group! We grew up playing this type of music. Acapella is another powerful artfrom! Sabe. Sabe sesiyakholwa. Eshe. eshe. Grrrr. Yishayeni bafana bakithi e Mnambithi!
One day we will all look at one another and realize we are all brothers and sisters in this world, that hurting one another hurts us all, and that our Mother Earth can provide us with everything we all need if we just learn to share. No more wars, no more hunger, no more hatred...we will put down our childish things and work together to explore the universe that exists both within us and beyond.
And, over all of it, we will hear this song.
MUCH LOVE TO ALL OF YOU, ALL OVER THE WORLD, FROM USA
Gracias por su información, esta música me estremece, hasta me hace sacar lágrimas y no entiendo lo que dicen, pero siento que es profundo, me eriza la piel. Saludos
i am 20 years old and i have loved ladysmith black mambazo since i was about 8, i was raised in a city like most normal kids and my main music taste lies with hip hop but it just goes to show....we're not a lost generation
From ancient times Wise people call out to us Children - oh children Hear our words You are a great family, all Look up to the sky You are the brightest star Father, father, raise a cup Drink fresh water Break new bread Be generous Laugh loud - it is good.
There are a few "vocal " groups today who could do with a lesson in how to harmonise from Ladysmith Black Mombazo. They are not only showing us their culture but their faith and talent as well. Inspiring!! Thank you :)
1st video I've watched all the way to the end today, don't care what language it was in, don't care what they were singing about but it made me feel good,
I remember these guys from Jeff Wayne's Musical version of Spartacus. They played the voice of Spartacus' army. A good choice, if you ask me; these guys are great!
Mark, I'm just going through some of your older videos, and I'm really enjoying your music, etc! Wow, what a fantastic listening experience here. Thanks for introducing me to this choral group. :)
Incredible enrichment for the soul! Such purity and a resonating natural vibe. Nothing but awe, relaxation and good memories when listening to this =]
I LOVE THIS MUSIC, where can i hear more like this? and what language is this? it doesnt really sound like kiswahili but i could be wrong.....much respect write me soon...
From ancient times Wise people call out to us Children - oh children Hear our words You are a great family, all Look up to the sky You are the brightest star Father, father, raise a cup Drink fresh water Break new bread Be generous Laugh loud - it is good.
Some of the lyrics are almost impossible to translate into English. Joseph Shabalala, the writer and composer, explained that the meaning of some words depends on many variables such as who you are addressing, the context in which you are speaking and even the time of day! here is the closest one can get
Love the harmonising of the Zulu singers........Zulu rules...a dynamic warrior language....saw 300 Zulu's near Pretoria singing and doing their Zulu dances when I was younger. Awesome, if not fear inspiring! Have great respect for this tribe. The Red Coats faced a noble enemy.
LOVE LOVE LOVE, I heard a song from LSBM for the first time on the Heinz Beans ad years ago, and everyone in the sitting room stopped to listen to the music- it commands attention IMMEDIATELY! The next week my Mam bought their CD for me. I still have it, play it all the time while Im ironing!
This music is so beautiful. It literally brings tears to my eyes every time, and creates this overwhelming feeling of love and prosperity and brotherhood. I can't wait to go to Africa some day and meet native tribesmen and enjoy and learn their cultures. Sometimes I feel being an American I'm so culturally-deprived, and I crave to learn and be a part of all of these beautiful and possibly even ancient cultures and rituals. This video reminds me of my dad who was from South Africa and played it.
this song reminds me of walking downstairs early in the morning, the smell of bacon in the ktichen, and this playing early in the morning. My grandad sat at the table with ketchup on his chin, nad sat nodding his head!
This is so beautiful. This just proves that you do not need instruments and auto-tune to make 'music'. Their voice and humble harmonies are the instruments. I love this.
I saw them in concert in Ipswich, England. They where very good indeed. Shame the girl I asked to come with me didn't bother coming as I went out with a fine Kenyan girl who sat two rows behind me after, and although we broke up about 5 months after meeting.....I loved that night very much indeed
i dont know how to explain it, but this kind of music sounds more human than any other kind of music. it represents a people so justly that it represents all peoples
I prefer it without reverb and without thar compressed-microphone sound. Just a stereo microphone placed further away so that have to sing louder. The 'whispering' style is a modern influence from using mics.
Thx gerdenshed, this is one of my most fav song by the group. They're just awsum!! Mesmerizing with the pace towards the end, lol. I cant even write what they said, lol, but its awsum nonetheless, lol.
@ketgirl34 I understand your point. I would suggest there is a sophistication in this music that is lost in the western world. It brings peace to me also.
Joseph Shabalala formed Ladysmith Black Mambazo because of a series of dreams he had in 1964, in which he heard certain isicathamiya harmonies, isicathamiya being the traditional music of the Zulu people.
