  • That turn from york-dauphin to Huntington is the train turn that the Transformers 2 was shot at, back in 09, of course the use a fake street sign but thats the spot, You also see the el turning in a scene.

  • @ronnie1287 Cool I had no idea. Thanks for sharing.

  • aaah...summertime in the HOOD!!

  • I Remember Ringo Starr In Septa Market Frankford Line

  • @UNLIBRESPORITU39 What do you mean? I don't remember that, can you refresh my memory? That sounds interesting.

  • i thought the end was 69th st. terminal

  • This is the first time I've seen a train on the middle track.

  • The oldest subway in the US is Boston.

  • And the description says nothing about this being the oldest one lol.

  • I'd love to see your video's!

  • Correction, your video began underground as the Subway was leaving Front st. station, not Somerset ! Somerset street station is a longways off, and on the Elevated portion, it's the station you ended up at.

  • Yes, I believe your correct. Thanks!

  • Before they extended the line to the North East, the subway emerged out over front and Arch, and it continued north to the Fairmount ave. station, it originally consisted of a wide loop that swung out over Delaware avenue at Fairmount, and then it traveled south along Delaware avenue, this was referred to as the "Delaware Avenue loop", it was removed when construction began in 1913 for the Northeast portion of the line. That elevated on Delaware Ave. served all the ferry stations to New Jersey.

  • This stretch of track was opened in 1977 a year after the Bicentennial, the portion of elevated that was removed to make way for the present I-95 structure, can still be seen the way it was originally in the film "Rocky" the scene as he is jogging in the early morning along Delaware Avenue. Prior to that section being removed, the elevated used to exit right over front and Arch street as it did originally from 1904.

  • Oh I see!

  • I know i was ocnfused over the year about the El's history now I know the El goes from 69th street to bridge-pratt today too.

  • You must have moved away from Philly? Or are you from some where else?

  • oh im still in philly i just didnt know what year the EL came out yet.

  • you've got some balls travelling up there lol.

  • It was no big deal at all.

  • I was'nt on the roof of the train, I was inside standing in the front train looking directly out the front window.

  • No i meant travelling to North philly. All you hear on the news is gun crime and consistent poverty in most of the inner city northern areas. But i think its nice to see someone like yourself enjoying the cityscape and the old subway system.

  • Yes, I do enjoy the old Subway system's of Philly especially, due to living here 98% of my life, born & raised in Fishtown, living in Town since 18 years old. I use to take the MFL EL to high school North Catholic, every day. And as far as the Northern Philly neighborhood's are concerned, the crime and violence is 99% against themselves & drug territory issues. I've never had a problem as a caucasian visitor appreciating their neighborhood's.

  • You know back in the mid 80's, I photographed every neighborhood that adjoined the Market-Frankford Elevated, mostly the Northeast sections. I started at Front and Girard and the Fishtown area, the shopping strips of both York and Dauphin and K&A. Progressed upwards through Harowgate, Tioga, Juniata and Frankford itself, I roamed in and out of several neighborhoods taking photo's that display the contrast between the houses and the Elevated.

  • This would not be advisable 23 years later as many of these little neighborhoods I pictured have fallen in to the decay, and the section 8 welfare classes. Sorry to make a cover statement, however, it is what it is. I call it as I see it. Back then I was lucky to have also photographed the Trolleys still in operation at the Erie and Torresdale El station. I photographed the route 56 trolley from Erie-Torresdale up through Tacony to it's loop at Cottman Ave. Now it to is gone! Much has changed!

  • You just need to be careful & reespectful while walking & filming in these area's. That's all, as the people in these neighborhood are generally very friendly & kind, with a few exceptions.

  • @backtoharmony - Are you allowed to feed them?

  • @passt2008 What do you mean when you ask, "are you allowed to feed them"?

  • @backtoharmony It was meant to be sarcasm. My wife grew up in the area and her immediate family still lives there. The people who live there are regular hard working people and don't require any special precautions.

  • @passt2008 Okay, cool.
