I know you folks are so proud about your solar panels. But honestly, all that money invested and for only 150MW? The desert is a great place for solar but I don`t see how this technology is going to change the world. Maybe in another 20 years? Coal and Oil will be with us for a while longer.

BTW, Kendog29 and Sunbeppe`s comments above are the reason why California sucks. Too many smug Californians who think they are the best people ever.

First country to gain full energy independence from oil will make a sociological and technological breakthrough propelling it far beyond the others.. Imagine what cheap energy will allow people to do? Smelt metals, distill water, turn garbage into fuel, etc.. on a massive scale!

Let see how those lobbyists hidden behind our govt sign solar technology away to WTO this time. Somehow WTO may sue your govt to allow people building solar technology massively with local resources and efforts. They'll make some zone protection laws similar to those Jewish patents protection laws and then force everybody to buy solar technology from north pole and recycle all solar equipments in south pole.

If our selfish capitalist psychology can't evolve, energy is our own enemy, not our creativity and spirituality. If capitalists are afraid of the power of community, they will corner themselves into some shot circuited loop of exhaustion. Each household's roof is a big and self maintain solar cell. If we know how to design, we'll build free houses to let people to live in and take care of their solar cells. People of the population become the energy source on top of an intelligence farms.

Mojave Solar Park is coming soon with an additional 553 megawatts. With SEGS 350or so Million Watts shown in the vid, that's >900MEGAWATTS of thermal solar power in the Mojave desert! California is the best!
