I really like Leon's character, very highly advanced for an NES game, where the actual character himself wanted power beyond all else, not any brainwashing or any of that... he was purely his own man, ah ruthless ambition, how I miss thee.

Oh, I wasn't referring to real life, ruthless ambition in real life is... well everywhere, I had meant in video games and Final Fantasy altogether, Leon is still considered one of the chief main characters and his motives remain pretty dark to grey throughout the game. In that respect he's a rather realistic character. Nowhere near as complex as Kain's psyche, but it was definitely a fine start.

hmm, i am playing through the GBA dawn of soul remake, and it mentions the richards or in my versions game, ricard his last name is highwind, which is the same as kain's from FFIV so is that just coincidental or something or on purpose?

@haapsaari55 its something the game developers did on purpose. The original NES, many of the characters didnt had last names (such as highwind) but after the PSX and GBA and PSP remakes of these games the game developers added little details and references to past FF games to keep the old FFI and FFII games alittle well fresh. No Ricard , Kain , King Tycoon and Cid from FFVII arent related at all.

I LOVED the drug jokes! And while we're on the subject of drugs causing side-affects that are symptoms that they're meant to prevent, chemo-therapy (the treatment for cancer) causes cancer. It's radiation, and radiation cause cancer, so what did you expect? Also, Ambien (a sleep medicine) has insomnia as a side affect! It's like, what's the point of even taking drugs?

Interesting thing about Leon... in DoS, he starts with 10 MP in the first battle like everyone else. But when he comes back, he has... 5 MP?! It's the only stat in the GBA version that goes down, ever, as his rejoin stats more or less didn't change from the NES version (unlike most other game stats which were doubled).

Interestingly if you equip the Hiryuu on Richard and forget to take it off him the game remembers to let you keep it even though you don't want it. Or at least in the PSX version.
