  • what I'd give for a Hi-Q version of this

  • Simply beautiful

  • The best way to enjoy this music is without a bunch of pretentious dick-waving, so shame on all of you.

  • I imagine Debussy was quite the ladies man in his day coming up with pieces like this and executing them flawlessly. Ah, to be Debussy, but I am alas a mediocrity. Cheers.

  • @mikedonn71 Debussy as a man was a brute and ill-tempered son of a b*, nothing like the music he wrote. I don't even think he got married.

  • @mikedonn71 But so was also the case of many other composers who wrote wonderful music; Mussorgsky, Brahms, Beethoven etc

  • The only way to truly experience true, deep emotions in this beautiful piece is to play it....... And enjoy playing it.

  • great debussy... a true genius

  • who's playing? truly beautiful interpretation

  • yeah, I know, what a good music.

  • Worldwide Flow

  • Strange how people talk and talk about music when it should be so simple to listen...Simply listen and feel ! especially when there are no words to express such a beauty !

  • @helene8070 Strange how analyzing the music will help the techniques represented in it alive. A simple listener couldn't understand the nostalgia and technique it takes to composed something so fluidly edited and meticulously designed as this, all they can do is listen.

  • @emlmm88 you are right emimm88... But can the feelings and the soul be analyzed ?that's what I wanted to express. I just mean that we are not computers..! most of time we can't explain the reasons of our feelings because there is no reason to feel this or that... This is why most of people "feel" and don't "analyze"... because loving something is such a personnal matter.. Sorry for my poor english....!

  • @helene8070 You can explain feelings as they are a series of chemical imbalances that occur in our very brains caused by a number of different factors. I guess I just fight the age where people are starting to listen less to logic as our intellectualism slowly fades and are more only able to appreciate things in an unchanging state of the subconscious, which while important, shouldn't be a factor of the other skill being lost. I just wish people still had the patience to analyse and feel.

  • @emlmm88 great answer ! what school of thought are you ? Freud ? Jung ? I am joking ! but you are right to say that people should be more patient ! you analyze a lot .. you are a man I guess ! I am a woman and I "feel" more ! This being said, I agree that people should "think" a little bit more and not accept everything that makes them more and more "robotized"No place in this world for patience, silence, slowness.. But some are listening to DEBUSSY..This comforts me ! have a good day emimm88

  • @helene8070 Don't stereotype yourself into any category. I have clearly seen your ability with words and it's that of high reasoning capacity and I wasn't at all judging you. There however, is a clear and definite difference between choosing to see things through feeling and not having the ability to have logical thought. You being the former. I am however impressed with you'r well achieved introspection, even if in my mind unfounded. Either way we see things however,

    Good day!

  • I always thought this was the work of Chopin. Even when I was small.

  • @emlmm88

nope dude. debussy was a genius too. debussy and chopin fight for #1 in my book

  • @theblueisyou I never said he wasn't.

  • The next level of inspiration derived by art, is to share beyond home; toward the greater light of all human understanding; draw through our circumstances and above our realities; challenge ourselves via sharing our epiphanies, with our immediate environment, family, community, nation, world, universe, and maybe, just maybe, with infinite light.

  • @pacmacdeluxe Good; now what?

  • @pacmacdeluxe Good.

  • After hearing this song from my band teacher, I've been searching for this song for two years. It brings me back to the curious days of childhood.

Now I have found this piece, I am at home.

  • I am 11 years old and learning this song

  • I used to hear an excerpt of this piece when an astrologer came on with his short program on PBS, his program was all about stargazing, planets, things like that. He's gone now, but I always remember that short little program using this song, I think it aired after red green.

  • @MrNEStalgia Yes I remember that. It was called Stargazers. The "astronomer" was Jack Horkheimer. Unfortunately he passed away in 2010 but his legacy lives on in the form of another program on PBS.

  • 13 people have poop in their ears

  • @theblueisyou you have poop hands

  • @arcadilips

    try making sense next time

  • @theblueisyou as in no about poop-talking!! This is Debussy

  • @arcadilips

i can see you didnt take my advice

  • @theblueisyou the poop one?

  • I think of little ducks floating on top of lily pads that fill a pond :)

  • What lovely painting is this? It looks kind of like Monet...?

  • @Timeywimeyball it is monet. it's called simply "water lily pond"

  • @fespin09

Thinking an impressionist piece is classical music?! 2012 is truly the end of times

  • @TheNotMexican Technically it is. There is two meanings of classical music: The gerne and the movement. The genre encompasses all music of this genre even music today. The movement only lasted a certain period of time.

  • Like the way this was used in Portrait of Jennie as well as Star Hustler.

  • I so much adore this piece of Debussy, that I hear the last part of this song many times when I daydream and last few nights even in my dreams, I'll never forget it until I die.

  • Dislikes on this?? Really?? People are dumb.

  • i'm a jazz and blues/ classic rock guy, but this is one of my favorite pieces of music...ever!

  • thank god there are more classical music appreciators. :)

  • I don't really like this piece. I get more frustrated each time I listen to it. I hear the faint echoes of ignorant geriatrics telling me how beautiful it is. Yes, it's beautiful. It also sounds like an ad for Dove soap. Also, using the Aeolian mode: not original.

  • @alexandergreenb I'm studying music in school and this is the very attitude that I find in so many of my peers, I hate it. I feel bad for you that your musical ear has become so critical that you can't enjoy a simple, pretty melody like this one. I find it offensive that you called me an ignorant geriatric for loving this song, I've liked it since I was little, long before I ever studied music. Just because someone can find beauty in something that you cannot does not make them ignorant.

  • @cLeeen10 I think people who can love simple music are the lucky ones, they don't listen to criticize but to enjoy, and I believe that is the sole purpose of music; to enjoy. People get so caught up and so high on their horse because they know so much about music that they start to hate everything they hear. I never want to be like that.

  • @cLeeen10 I don't hate all Debussy, and I'm perhaps not as critical as you might think, but this piece irks me in a very personal way. But yes, I do hate beauty for its own sake. That's why I tend to hate impressionism in general. Sugar makes a good addition to coffee, not a good substitute for it.

  • i also playing moonlight sonata in performing stage

  • i learning this song

  • the sound quality is awfully awfull!!!!

  • I just finished learning this piece, just need to memorize the last section

  • i envy you people that can actually play this on piano. whyyy mom? why did you not send me to piano lessons?!?

  • @ciupenhauer If you have any talent, you will be able to get really good if you start now and put a lot of effort in. You might not be the next Horowitz but that's ok.

  • someone ever heard it with an orgestra behind it?

  • @sugarfreecom

oh, yes!!! mellow violins, flute, hautbois, harp....

  • @Arpeggio555 I know it sounds awsome, i heard the london orchestra playing it :-) thank you for your respons Arpeggio555

  • Thank you.

  • ads before listening to classical music?! 2012 is truly the end of times

  • @fespin09 Yes. Excuse my Arabic but what the fuck.

  • @fespin09 blame it on DesAbends who chose to get money from ads after his videos hit 200,000 viewers

  • @fespin09 it just shows that enough people are watching for advertisers to be interested xD

  • @fespin09 i didnt get any ads.

  • @fespin09 If you have Firefox as your browser you can google "firefox addblock."

It's an addon to your browser that blocks the majority of ads. Spread the word :D

  • @ABdadaSURD Adblocker plus also works remarkably well :)

  • @fespin09 look up 'adblocker plus'. You're welcome.

  • Does anyone know the pianist that plays the Debussy pieces on DesAbends channel? If so, please e-mail me (maximiliano_moro@hotmail.com)... I've been searching for so long and can't find him/her!

  • By the way, I heard so many interpretations of this piece, I like it slow, like this version, it gives me a slight tingling feeling.

  • Please no more arguing, this piece is too good for any horrible comments.

  • since when was enjoying life met with such argument. hello youtube!

  • lol look at you FOOLS!

  • I will amend my fourth point; its rythm not tempo.

  • 1. This is not a song. It has no words, there is no singing.

    2. I never said I learned the ENTIRE peice in 3 days, only a small portion; and it sounded nothing like what is being played here.

    3. Playing by ear is NOT hard. You hear the note, and play the note. Simple as that.

    4. the hands do not move at different speeds, but tempos. Triplets and quadruplets in this case.

    5. If I knew my comment was going to cause such an uproar by ignorant fools I never would have posted. Sorry Debussy.

  • @Godsman311291 i agree with everything on this comment except number one. you don't need lyrics for it to be a song. all music is music. you should enjoy it all even with no lyrics.......

  • @conversefreak1000 Actually...yes you do need lyrics for it to be a song. Definition of a song = Vocal music, AKA singing, and therefore lyrics. This is a piece of music, not a song.

  • @OmegaOwA Excuse me? Mendelssohn "Song Without Words"....?!

  • @nezvanova (I'll assume you're being serious) That's called artistic liberty with a name. "Without Words" would be redundant if a song wasn't meant to have words.

  • @OmegaOwA You shouldn't assume things on the internet. Makes you look pretentious.

  • @nezvanova Who said I wasn't? *laughs like a pretentious fool*

  • @OmegaOwA :)

  • slow=hard fast=easy <--it always like that o.o

  • tooo slow !

  • I do not like this interpretation. It does not capture the piece as a whole but instead overly and unnecessarily focuses on small parts at a time, creating inappropriate dynamics and phrasings.

  • @NimbleTurtle13 man you´re retarded.

  • @betolala Thanks bitch!

  • okay, the guy i responded to said hes only been playing piano for 3 days. i understand that if you play piano for 10 years then try to play this, then 3 days may be possible. i mean, seriously, you cant learn how to play this song before you know what a C scale is. "you can play this without experience if you believe so in you're heart".....really?

  • the thing is people play this song so differently. I really wan't to know just how he imagined it. It says he was very argumentative and I guess that would mean he was a bit of a trouble maker so it would be the world to hear him play this but sadly no one can.

  • i've started practising this 10 weeks ago and try to play it everyday. finally when i thought i've grasped it without any mistakes i listened to this. and i realised that i'm no where near done with it because my version is completely emotionless compared to this one!

  • great tempo

  • Love this piece, I started crying mid way when I first heard it. And I heard it while it was raining kinda brings a warm feeling into one's heart.

  • I play it and it is for me a beautiful way to forget all the stress of life.. its such a comforting feeling.. like waterfalls under the fingers. I love Debussy..

    this interpretation is really beautiful..

  • just need more practice

  • This is a splendiferous interpretation.

  • It took me weeks to learn Clare de Lune, and I still don't know it.

  • Hablar con la música....

  • Can anyone tell me the chords that make up 2:13 - 2:17, I CANNOT figure them out, it is so frustrating!!!!! I have been on that single part for nearly three weeks! Oh and, thanks for all of the comments, some leave a nasty taste, but we all need a bit of criticism. I wish I had something to make a video with so I could show you all my progress and get some feedback on areas of improvement * which btw is pretty much all of them* :D .

  • @Godsman311291

I'm not sure exactly where you get confused but looking at the score, I think it goes F sharp major, A-Major9, then Esus4 with the A dropping to Gsharp

btw the score is public domain you can get it off imslp.org

  • @Godsman311291 jesus, this isn't a pop song, it's not just a row of chords stuck together.

  • Funny that the top comment contradict each other...

  • Comment removed

  • 2:15, simply exquisite.

  • i can't hear all the notes... play out more.

  • Can't say I dislike, but I find this interpretation a little clunky, disjointed, even stoic for a composition that can be far more joyous, gracious even.

  • love the great music and the great work of art that goes along with it

  • i personally don't like the pianists interpretation.. i agree with the four dislikes..

pianist ain't doing it justice... hell make that 5dislikes

  • How come there are four dislikes?!?

  • beautiful <3

  • fuck

  • This song is SO MUCH fun to play on the piano :)

  • Debussy transcends romantic, modern, and even impressionist labels. He just... phantasmagoric. XD

  • Has anyone heard of a certain game called Magic Builder?

  • i typically don't care for anything impressionistic but this is quite an exception

  • @rockisdead25 I like the way you talk. Like you just walked out of an 19th centuary novel.

  • @BrunetteBarbie21 is that bad? i don't mean to sound pretentious

  • @rockisdead25 No it's not bad. I like it :) You're not pretentious, if you were you'd of commented on my spelling mistake lol

  • @BrunetteBarbie21 haha i appreciate it

  • How could anyone not like this?

  • This rendition is so much better...

  • I would say... that 4 people are blind... that's why they hit the wrong button :)

  • i'm learning this piece very good :)

  • I have just began to play the piano. the first song that I picked to learn how to play is this, and things are going well. I have been playing for three days and can play smoothly up to about 1:30 on this video. i started playing because of Debussy's talent with this instrument. Just the listening enjoyment alone was enough to interest me enough to start playing. I am trying to learn by ear, and have done well so far. Wish me luck.

  • @Godsman311291 o.o....good luck, you might need it...

  • @Godsman311291

Playing this song by ear without any prior piano lesson? You must have great musical talent. So how is the piano playing of this piece so far?

  • @Godsman311291 youve been playing for only 3 days and you think you can play this? lol this song is not something you learn in a few days. your left and right hand play at such awkwardly different speeds.

  • @SGKoyama if people has the feeling asn wish he can do anything just need to know how fell that and express the feeling ... LIFE gives everything you need just need to know how to use it

    Believe someone

    Believe in things they do

    Believe yourSelf

  • @SGKoyama Yes, this is such a beautiful piece of music and so difficult to play, I can't say |I've really mastered it, however \i do love to hear it played well.

  • @SGKoyama But its normal stuff on the piano. if u r a freaky freak u r able to learn this piece in a couple of days!

  • @SGKoyama I don't think he ever said he was trying to learn the song in a few days. Plus, you have to keep in mind, people have varying levels of musical inclination. I don't claim to play the piano, but I taught myself Turkish March (both hands) by ear when I was 8... not a very difficult song, but you catch my drift. I think everyone should be encouraged to pursue music, no matter their age or experience. And you have to admit, this is one beautiful song to try to learn.

  • @SGKoyama

well... i played for 15 years... and after that it took me 5 days to master this piece.

but ofcourse i had some practice

  • @SGKoyama I think that Debussey would be disappointed in your 'quick to judge' attitude as would Monet hahaha

  • @SGKoyama He must be asian.

  • @SGKoyama I think that if he has the will to learn this song he will be able to play it. Personally when I started playing piano, the second day I was taught Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven and Nocturne by Chopin and I played them perfectly in a couple of weeks. Even though Debussy is veeeery complicated to learn and play, I believe anyone can make it if they want to, even if they're beginners :) just my opinion!

  • @SGKoyama If you want to be really technical about things, this is not a song, there's no singing. Further more, the right and left hand play at the same speed, the term you are looking for is poly-rhythmic, which means the right hand plays note values at different rhythms (triplets in this case), and the left plays quadruplets. Speed refers to tempo, not rhythm.

  • @Godsman311291 hum... thats just stupid man... start with easyer songs... u wont learn this properly with 3 days of piano experience lol.

  • @Godsman311291 Wierd yeah I agree with SGKoyama ... Would take awhile but I do wish you luck.

  • @Godsman311291 read this again in 3 years

  • @Godsman311291 Three days? holy shit. I've been playing for 10 years and I'm only up to about 0:34 after 3 weeks of practicing.

  • @Godsman311291 honestly. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but this is quite an advanced piece. Many people who have played for years can't manage to play this right so quickly. I've played for 11years and I'm only moving at a moderate speed learning it. There is no way you can get the emotion, quality and control needed for this piece as a beginner, unless your like a piano prodigy which i highly doubt. Start with something easier. You'll get to complicated stuff soon enough.

  • @Godsman311291 you must be a prodigy!!!!! -___-

  • @Godsman311291 This isn't a piece you learn if you only barely know the piano.

  • @Godsman311291 I find it very very hard to beleive you can play this having just started playing the piano. Even a very experienced pianist would take alot longer than 3 days to play this piece smoothly. But if you are telling the truth, which I very much doubt, then my god you must be some pianist!!

  • @Godsman311291 I first learned how to play the piano by ear. However, I was cheating myself. If you have this honest raw talent then think of how much further you can grow when you are classically trained. I think too many people try to "cheat" their way through. Don't rob yourself of your full potentiality!!! It is when you combine your talent, head knowledge, discipline, finger training/strengthening and your gift of ear...only then can you REALLY play this piece. Good Luck!

  • @Godsman311291 Amazing!!!

  • @Godsman311291 Not sure if trolling or....?

  • @cinnawaffls this is trolling, be sure

  • @Godsman311291 If you can learn this by ear, after playing piano for just a few days and without any ability to read music, I'll be mightily impressed. I don't think that's the optimum way to learn this particular piece but if it's getting results then give it a try. Whatever works for you. Maybe you'll make a recording of it so we can hear it? I'd be genuinely curious. It's such a beautiful piece that even if you're not playing it "perfectly" it'd still be worth hearing. Best of luck with it.

  • @Godsman311291 : How cool are you for taking on the task to learn this piece. It's seriously mood-changing. i did this with moonlight sonata. I can finally play it from memory. I suggest that once you get it down...turn out the lights and play it at night...it's amazing!! Congrats!

  • @Godsman311291 yeaaaaa. I've been playing for 11 years and still haven't played this. So.. Good luck. :)

  • @Godsman311291 You're a pretentious douche, who can't possibly have learned to play this by ear in only 3 days of playing the instrument. I think Debussy gave himself a LITTLE more time than that, fool.

  • finally......someone who plays it with emotion!!

  • Very beautiful and unique interpretation! All the ritard works so well in this piece.

  • each time i get a thumbs up, i will slap my brother

  • @DrX39 how about i thumbs you down and you slap yourself?

  • very good

  • Beautifully played by François-Joël Thiollier.

  • Music can be a portal for the happiness and peace within you to shine through...

  • Whatever happiness I have left in me, this is the form it takes.

  • I walked down the aisle to this peice at my wedding. It was perfect for our outdoor ceremony. It went well with the light breeze that was blowing in off the lake!

  • debussy jest jedyny w swoim rodzaju! uwielbiam jego piekną nastrojową muzykę mając jedynie 15 lat ; ))

  • Monet *^*

  • ...and the sunshine shone over endless seas....

  • Take me to another place in time.... Beautiful music

  • This performance of Debussy's Arabesque I comes closest to perfect from everything I've heard so far! Does anyone know who's playing this?

  • @Cornelia66666 I think it is thiollier as most of the other debussy videos by desAbends. :)

  • it's heaven in music

  • It's beautiful
