if you think ben kenney is a bad bass player than either you are deaf, have not heard him, or know nothing about what makes a good bass player. he's legit. just cause he doesnt slap constantly doesnt mean he's bad...he's a hell of a good bassist, just a different style then dirk. and anyways, a real incubus fan would accept the change in style.

@jasonmiester9 Ben's a good bassist, but I miss the groove & funk Dirk brought. Incubus isn't terrible now, but their basslines are a lot less interesting to me now. And real fans of any band aren't afraid to criticize them. I realize people change as they grow, but I'm let down with the direction they chose.

and use your middle and ring finger for your octaves!

I also was never happy with the thumb tone as much as I should have been and got my hands on a used SSII. Just Awesome. I'm running it through a WT800 and 410xlt which is just stunning. Have you decided on your perfect string yet? I'm still in the trial and error stage...the factory EMPs are pretty nice, but very hard to find. What do you suggest? I'd appreciate it if you could save me some time and money :)

Sweet! I didn't like the EMP strings very much. My favorites are DR Hi-Beams. I usually use medium lite gauge, but I'm going to buy a set of lite-lites and see how they are.

ehh, ok, if you're Tim Parent then you're a very good bassist and a kinda good signer but a very poor rapper. But, it's not because you THINK you have a better technique that you can start bashing people off. Also, if I say that I play cynic and sleep terror stuff, I think I don't need to prove that I can play the trooper (oh and btw I use a 4 fingers technique). And no you don't need to have an insane technique to be a great player. Like others said, think about Jamerson.

Another great bassline off SCIENCE. You play these so true to the originals! By the way, is it hard getting used to the 5-string, especially the string spacing?

It's pretty hard for the first few weeks. The spacing is the big issue for me. I started on a 5-string with tight spacing, then switched to my Thumb 4. Took me awhile to get used to it. Then I switched back to 5-string, and it wasn't any easier ;) I just put together a cheap 4-string PJ copy so I can keep up on both spacings. You can see it in the background sorta.

Practice everyday! Really practice though.. not just play along with songs. Learn your scales. Get a metronome, and use it. Focus on the groove, not the chops ;D

I can't really tell from the pictures. With the natural oil finish you can just barely feel the grain of the wood. I'd guess with the satin you wouldn't, since the finish would be slightly thicker.

Thanks dude! I was pretty overdue in posting something, heh. Time to show it off for sure! It's not too heavy, actually. It weighs in at 9.6 pounds. My Corvette was really heavy.. almost 11 pounds. My Thumb was really light. It only weighed 8.6 pounds.

I think I might put some Hipshot Ultralight tuners in at some point. That should bring it down to around 9 pounds.
