  • Great fishing guys.

What baitcaster rod/reel set up would you recommend for me. I want to try something different from the regular spinner reel. I use a 5' 6" berkley cherrywood medium action w/ a spider tarantula reel. My budget would be about $120. I live in Hamilton and travel up north a bit so bass pro shop in Vaughn and Fishing world in Hamilton are two stores i can get to.

    Thanks

  • Sweet vid, great job on putting that hd hero camera to work. Im gonna have to get me one

  • @jasonkroll

Thanks! Yeah the gopro is sweet as a hatcam!

  • @ShutUpAndFishCanada what kinda rod you using ?

  • @skidoomansam

The rod is a Shimano Cumara and the reel is a Shimano Curado 201E7 spooled with 50 lbs test green power pro braid.

    Thanks for watching!

  • What do you think about the x-rap for pike? Would it be as good as the husky jerk?

  • @TheOhioFishermen

I really like the X-rap as well but I prefer the side to side action of the husky jerk. Another great lure is the new clackin minnow by rapala. Had a lot of success with it!

  • @ShutUpAndFishCanada ok thanks

  • @TheRandyLahey

The lake is all ice now and they don't allow ice fishing on it. If we are lucky we can get out in March if the ice melts fast enough. If not we have to wait until the 2nd Saturday in May.

  • awesome pike video.

  • @Jackdaniels3333

    Thanks!

  • good video...thanks...

  • Very nice video! Seems strange for me being from Ohio that you'd catch so many pike like that.

  • Thats got to be a very stable canoe cause i have fished in some and you didnt stand up in them..

  • What kind of Camera is this ? I really like it .

  • @CameMyTurn

This is a GOPRO HD HERO. Mounted with my home made hat cam and yes it works great! I made another video showing how I made my hat cam you should check it out. Super easy to make!

  • wow. it's too bad you catch and relese. that wlould be some good eating

  • Sweet, I am a girl, but I loooooooooooooooooooooooove fishing;3(:

  • @immacoolkidd324

Then you are awesome because fishing rocks!

  • Made many a fishing trip into the Canadian wilderness. Used to fly in from Chapleau, White River back in the early 60's. Wish I had a gopro back then to record the adventures :D

  • @royalott

Wow I bet you saw some monsters back then!

  • @ShutUpAndFishCanada hows ur shimano curado holding up mine 200 e7 is doing great

  • You guys are hardcore. You've also sold me on using a canoe--all the fishermen around here demand boats and pretend to catch walleye. I may have to show them your style of finesse!

  • @comdrdawn

Thanks man! If I have a chance to go fishing I definitely take it! Canoes rock and they are super quiet so there is minimal risk of scaring the fish :)

  • Minus five, eh! But it does not look that cold. Maybe the warm music helps. =}

  • @CardinalSinga

haha thanks! It warmed up to about +5 by noon so that helped!

  • Is that reel a left handed Shimano Curado you are using? (new style). Ima huge fan of Shimano. I used to have two of the old style curados but lost them... don't ask.

  • @GlocknLoad1 Yup its the Curado 201 E7 and I love it!

  • how do you stand up in a canoe?? Me and my girlfriend sat firmly in a canoe up in Maine and I tell ya i was about to go for a swim....i got 2 OLD TOWN kayaks they ROCK...very stable...

  • @akrivosdiavolos73

I bought a really wide canoe 16ft long. As long as you keep a wide stance you are good to go! I have been in other canoes that I wouldn't dare stand up in but mine is perfect for standing and fishing!

  • nice stable canoe bro lol i was woundering y ur so high up

  • @bassdominator1

Thanks dude! Its a wide canoe so its pretty balanced :)

  • Was that a Shimano Smoke Rod and Reel?

  • @CDOutdoors

The rod is a Shimano Cumara and the reel is a Shimano Curado 201E7. Great combo I love it!

  • Did you search for the pikes around the water, or did you knew a spot??

    Nice job guys!!

  • @AvadaKhedavra

This lake has pike everywhere! But there was only one small spot with open water to fish. The rest of the lake was frozen!

  • Thumbs up for husky jerk pike!

  • @ProFishermanJones

    Haha amen to that brother!

  • oh and by the way thats my absolute favorite way to fish, early fall pike fishing with either the husky jerk or slash bait but i like to use clown(: i run into a lot of perch, though

  • @terminator1526

It's the best time to get some big daddy pike!

  • did you film this with a hat cam, a tripod, or did you have someone holding it?? sorry i cant tell;p

  • @terminator1526

The canoe shot at the beginning was filmed on a tripod but the rest of the video was a hat cam with the GOPRO HERO.

  • very nice:)

  • my oldest son is totally into fishing this is a great video very well put together

  • @audreynolandreturns

    Thank you!!!

  • Dood, rub some Chapstick or use a Q-Tip & Vaseline on your rod guides to keep the ice off.

  • @dilligaf0220

Thanks I will give that a try!

  • great channel mate and amazing vid

  • @Reelfishinguk

    Thanks man!

  • Heaps different to fishing in Oz M8 , Awesome Vid Thanks for sharing

  • Oh My GOD!

I havent fished for more than 2 months!!!

This vid makes me feel your rod, the line, the wet fish!!!

I am going to fish this week!!!!!

    Nice video!

  • @msaha1992

Haha glad the video got you excited! I hope you are further south than I am...lakes frozen now!

  • @ShutUpAndFishCanada

Haha where I am the temperature is 25C at noon and a clear sky...

    no problem fishing!

  • nice vid

  • @jigaloe4nowatyahoo

    Thanks bro!

  • Brilliant Fish.. Nice work.

  • @surethingsfly

    thanks bud!

  • great job guys! you are super brave for heading out there in a canoe in those freezing temps! but judging by the catching, i bet it was worth it! :)

  • Comment removed

  • you have the best fishing videos on youtube

  • @bassfishermn95

    Thanks man!

  • Very cool! I wouldn't stand in the canoe in that cold water... :O

  • Nice vid! But minus 5 C, huh, we're minus 5 F.

  • @barelyjonesin

If it was -5F there would not have been any open water! -5C was cold enough for me! The guides kept icing up and line freezing!

  • Heck yeah !!!

  • Canoeing in cold water ? Not the safest boating adventure.

  • @mcgaugh57

True it would have been extremely cold if we fell in the water! But the fishing was worth it! Luckily I have never tipped a boat!

  • @ShutUpAndFishCanada I canoed 6 years before I tipped it, but it was serious and I lost gear and scared myself out of the canoe. It happened so quick that no one could have saved it. Freak storms come out of no where sometimes.

  • They were all over your jerk baits! Nice job!

  • @Winkiedoodles

It was definitely the bait of choice! Thanks!

  • For the husky jerks you're using, do you think size 14 is too big?

  • @TheOhioFishermen

Not at all! Size 14 is the only size I use. I have caught anywhere from a 6 oz bass to a 15 lbs walleye on it! Awesome jerk bait!

  • I was there on Saturday, not as much luck as you guys. We fished at the tube though couldn't break the ice there, so we fished the other side. Good shit.

  • great big pike!! do you think i could catch anything there next weekend?

  • @canadianfisherman11

Judging by the weather it may all be frozen by then. You can give it a try and if you do try off the rocks next to the dam if the water is open.

  • wow i hit mountsberg on saturday the 3rd and got 1 fish couple hits but because it was so not below freezing i thought i could fish from shore jeez i was wrong.

  • @ItalianMuscle88

What time did you get there? Did you see us in the canoe? We left around noon. There were 7 guys fishing from shore with a minnow and bobber and they left with a stringer full! They were on the rocks right next to the dam(opposite of the parking lot).

  • @ShutUpAndFishCanada No i got there around 2 due too stupid reasons but i did see those guys, i went on to the tracks and fished from the pipe but because the water was frozen on the side facing the dam we had to fish the opposite side its ok but not much activity in the water and i might head up next weekend depending on the temp during the week, hopefuly the water wont be frozen but idk i dont think it will on the opposite side because that flow from the pipe should keep it from freezing.

  • @ShutUpAndFishCanada - We went on Saturday, got there around 1. We got a couple right when we got there but the bite stopped after that.

  • very cool vid;)

  • that area of open water is a sign ....U MUST fish that area:) its different from the others.... thats where youlll find the fish.... iced lines and reels... is a story i know all to well... -30 dosent scare me for open water fishing... or ice fishing.... gget sicker fro not fishing then fishing in extreme conditions

  • @justfishingjustin

That's right we couldn't resist! Glad we did it too!

  • too cold for me, but i enjoyed that, thanks:)

  • @ht4005

We weren't expecting all the ice but the fishing made it worth it!

  • just wondering have you guys tried teh rapala clackin minnow? if so how is it?

  • @hardkilla

Yep I have. I like it a lot actually but its an expensive lure. The husky jerk is cheaper and works just as good.

  • beautiful video ! i don't like to fish as you . thank you for sharing .

  • @nutier

    Thanks!
