  • Just beautiful! I grew up in Minnesota (might as well be Canada) and miss the north country, winters included. I could practically feel the air on my face watching this.

  • why does she have 2 whistles

  • Nothing short of awesome! Remember CSRR's 1st season back in the mid '70s. They have truly come a long way! Superb video. Really captures the beauty of a New Hampshire winter.

  • looks like your a fellow steam fan! I like Amtrak and Ns, but Steam is my passion. 5 *****

  • steam + snow = damn good footage and time

  • That's really cool. Thank you for posting that.

  • how you get in the vabs of all these locomotives gets me extremely jealous!!!!!!!!!

  • Nicely done...Rode behind it years ago....

  • 2:11 you can see where the railroad used to run, (a lot closer to the railroad marker) its the flat spot

  • dude how'd u get permission to get in there?

  • Damn i wanna go here

  • that`s better than 2 giant berkshires haulin a 20 car freight, It`s just the right size train for the unit.

  • This remindes me of the 1952 postwar lionel set I run under my christmas tree that my dad gave me and I will never give up, it will be passed onto a 3rd generation. Mind you this set is now 58 years old and runs great where as toys I had in the 80's lasted less than a year.

  • Awesome!!

  • as i would have gone to this being a state away (new york),i just dont get excited over switching locomotives,id rather drive to pennsylvania and see the #3254 or the #425 .while they have a beautiful railroad and locmotives i think that they should consider restoring a bigger locomotive

  • @shininghappyperson7

Ya know, thats what I thought when I went to do this. "Oh its just a switcher, its great to see a steam train but still..." I thought to myself. This engine is very unique, it dosent feel like a little yard goat when your around it. i think this engine is great, and you really have to see it for yourself to truely aprreciate it (unless you already have)

  • @WhyAyeMann i saw her once when i was younge but i forgot,i mean i believe you in all but in a way (even though its still a steam locomotive) it doesnt seem like one,i'll see if i can get up there cause i do love the CN.b&m so ill ask around.but for the time being nothing can stand up to 3254 or 425 crawling on hands and knees leting every one know trotin up a grade:)

  • @shininghappyperson7 I know what you mean. Ever been to the Connecticut valley railroad in essex? The steam engine there is a 2-8-2 logging mikado, and when she limbs the grade at a good speed it sounds fantastic. Its more of an overall feeling than a sound.

  • @WhyAyeMann ive never ben there because a large portion of the train trip is on the banks of the river away from the roads.and the sound is definatly not the only thing great about steam, the look the smell the ground literally shaking under your feet its just plain awsome!

  • @WhyAyeMann they also have 2-8-0 # 97, and also bringing a 3rd steamer to life this summer!

  • Man you have some of the coolest train videos I have ever seen. The quality is superb and the sounds are precise! Keep the videos coming! Your channel is one of the best!

  • Simply stunning. The whistle on that 0-6-0 is haunting, like any good steam whistle should be. Very impressed!

  • New Hamshire may not have that much steam, but we have the best type of line a steam engine should run on and that is the Conway Scenic. also we hav a climax in operation!

  • Excellent cinematography! Do you work in the industry or is it a hobby?! Either way, awesomeness!!!

  • Very nice, I especially love the scene where it runs through teh rock cut and snow.

  • @09JDCTrainMan not exactly modern

  • Hmmm, your right.

  • You must need glasses. The 470 railroad club that owns those freight cars, have allowed them to fall into a state of rust, rot and decay. The State of Maine car is a perfect example. If you were able to view this equipment in better weather and lighting situation you would notice right away.

  • And when I say better weather and lighting I mean up very close and from other angles as well.

  • An 0-6-0 on the main is unorthodox, to say the least, but it's steam. Great selection of cars, too.

  • That's a really thoughtful piece of story-telling; a magnificent switcher and how about that caboose too. Well done!

  • Joe - great job shooting and editing. Looks like Lerro did a nice job putting together run-bys. There are some new shots in there I have not seen before.

MBRRE is sponsoring the Steam in the Snow passenger run this Saturday, Jan. 1 at CSRR.

    Thanks for sharing your work.

  • I hear its supposed to snow heavily up north. Will they still run it even if there is alot of snow? I mean, they probably have some sort of snowplow right?

  • @WhyAyeMann

Checked the Mass Bay website and they said the run is still on for Saturday. CSRR will keep the tracks open. If they get a foot of snow, should be some great footage.

  • Steam isn't my thing, but I love this video. Very, very good. And beautiful pictures. My compliments to Joseph and Lerro Prod.

    If it was possible, I'd given 8 *. Now I "must" give only 5 * . :-(

    My compliments!

  • 5 *****

  • Good video.

  • thank you for that--it was great!

  • What a great looking train. Not a bad shot in the entire vid - nice job. Love that whistle.

  • Good video. That's a big 0-6-0.

  • i dont think a rock should be my states icon, it should be 7470

  • This has to be one of the best steam videos on youtube. 5*s across the board.

  • Still one of my absolute favorites.

  • wow that locomotive sound like a 2-8-2 not a 0-6-0 great northern new england steam!!!!

  • amazing, i love the state of main car, and the caboose, just great, the engine looks just like Strasburg R.R.s

  • Beautiful shots! One of your best videos! Feel free to send them all.

  • The scenery there is absolutely beautiful! It reminds me of western Newfoundland and almost brings a tear to my eye to know the trains don't run there anymore. ;-(

  • I guess Ive been out of the loop for a while Joe. I can't believe I haven't seen this until just now! I love this. This is your best work yet. Keep it up and we need to catch up!

  • Very cool... and in STEREO! Love it!

  • Your best video yet. =) Got to love those Steam Photo Frieghts. They are my favorite part of Railfaning. =)

  • You have out done your self, this video is too good!

DId you have two cameras set up at the begining?

  • Wow! What a fantastic production! Thanks for sharing that.

  • What a fantastic video Joe! I wished there were photo shoots with steam and snow here in California!

    Glenn.

  • Excellent video, just another great video for you to add to your belt here on youtube.

    Joe

  • Too bad you can hear the brakes digging in. That kind of gives away the reason for the train working so hard.

  • I work there, and this is one of the best video's I've seen of the place. Great job!!! Post more! :)

  • Gran video y presiosa maquina

  • Great job on this one!!!! I grew up in NH and went to this railroad every chance I got!!!! They started my love of steam locomotives :)

  • Outstanding job, Joe, doubly so on the soundtrack blending.

  • Oh man I can feel that nippy chill now!! Great video Joe!

  • Amazing video. Does this train normally handle freight or was this a photo special? Either way your video is great. 5 stars and a fav!!

  • No, they only run tourist trains, and freight trains on Railfan weekend in October. This was the first time they had pulled the freight train with steam in a long time.

  • Question:

Does the steam train pull the evening trains on teh conway?

as for the video, what can I say that hasnt been already said. Well done!

  • The deeper whistle sounds like GTW 6325's!

  • Sure does.

  • Awesoe video!

  • Good hard runnin in the cold and snow. Nothin like it. Great video .

  • They put on a nice show up there, don't they?

  • ★★★★★

  • Many thanks for sharing :-)

  • Very nice video Joe, I feel this is your best yet. theres nothing better then a cold day in the snow with steam railroading , I love the cold and I love seeing steam in the snow. Keep up the good work, see you by the tracks in 2009.

  • I love the way you film the surrounding scenery and it sets off the train way more that just zooming in on the train. Best railfan video taker on youtube!
