  • is this your first car? Im trying to get a GTI 2010 and up!

  • Is it your first car?

  • what kind of car is dis

  • @Draklql If you were listening, he clearly said it's a Volkswagen GTI.

  • My question is... When do you know when to shift? Like from 1st to 2nd to 3rd back to 3rd and also can you go from 3rd to 1st gear or do you have to go to 2nd before 1st

    Thank you

  • @Kimgomez2012 you can shift whenever you want it just means the engine will work harder/easier to increase speed when you want to shift. Most people just match it with a certain RPM, like in the 2500-3000RPM range, or match it with a certain speed. And if your going to slow enough, you could go from 3rd to 1st, but you wanna know what speed your 1st gear can handle. Like if you're going 35 in 3rd, but your 1st gear can only do 20-25, you'll put a lot of strain on the engine as well as clutch.

  • commence european faggots talking shit about americans not driving manual in 3...2...1....

  • "You stupid dog" @3:02 haha

  • does the GTI get good gas mileage?

  • @iiDREXEL1 probably late 20s to mid 30s city mileage for petrol but if youre in Europe and drive the diesel version, you could probably get 40-50 in the city.

  • Wait so when starting the car do you have to have your feet on the clutch and brake, or just the clutch

  • @MrYankee442 The clutch only...but it's best to keep your foot on the brake.

  • @GTI6speed sweet a gti i almost got one of those... how's the handling i know they're fwd

  • New cars won't start without pressed cars. Of course on neutral.

  • nice video, i got a good laugh out of the trolls haha

  • Most helpful video ever, thanks man! Little to no hills here in florida so I guess I don't have to worry about that for a while lmao

  • is it weird that i thought it was hilarious how he tried to stalla and didnt?

  • Just learned manual in like 30 minutes. This helped alot.

  • Thumbs up if you are a girl and like a manual transmission.

  • I heard GTI's have loooong clutch pedal travel. Thoughts?

  • @capecodpirate7 You do gotta push it in quite a bit. It doesn't really bother me. Get the ECS clutch bleeder block and put it in and you'll like it a whole lot more.

  • dude this is prolly one of the best videos on how to's for stick shifts. you explain it very well. you pretty much go through everything and even through i knew what all the components were, it made a lot more sense by the way you explained it. i appreciate it man. nice vid sir

  • You are so good at driving that even when you want to stall you cant haha

  • @OUTLAWJOHNSTON Hahaha

  • @OUTLAWJOHNSTON lame

  • lmaoo when the cam fell i thought you flipped the car im like WTF nice vid bro

  • So your foot doesn't need to be on the clutch other than when starting the car, getting the car going in 1st gear (the slow release thing), and to change gears?

Also, say you are driving in 3rd gear and your approaching a stop light, how do you get back to 1st gear? Do you have to shift to 2 then to one or what? How do you stop or decelerate is what I guess i'm asking.

  • @geowhit88 You need to brake and when you are at a low enough speed like 10mph or below you can just put the car in neutral.

  • to much trouble. i like my driving to be relaxing not a bunch of foot and arm movements.

  • how do you avoid the car jerking when downshifting?

  • @glincma2 Put it into gear really slowly. Once you get good at driving, practice rev matching, which involves pushing in the clutch and revving the engine to the right RPM for the lower gear and letting out the clutch.

  • @GTI6speed Isn't the gas pedal a little heavy. I have a GLI and the gas pedal seems a little insensitive; I guess its electric.

  • @saveus444 It's not heavy. And it's sensitive, just a tad laggy. ECS sells a part that cuts down on the lag if you're interested. It's plug and play from what I understand.

  • These comments really are funny, but yeah i'm sure this is a good video for beginners.

  • thanks for a decent video haha... All the other ones are people fooling around lol....

  • That looks way easyer to learn in then my dad 1989 ford ranger, that has no rpm metter

  • What i dont get do you have to keep your leg on the clutch the whole time you're driving??

  • @zjaz10 Once you shift, put your foot on the deadpedal. Don't ride with your foot even resting on the clutch.

  • HEY Thanks for the tips so when you shift say from 2nd to 3rd, does the shifter guide to 3rd or do you have to force you way through?

  • @edisamonsterjammer It'll go in by itself really you just have to guide it.

  • @edisamonsterjammer dont shift to fast. smooth slow movemnts will be better then jerking. try taping the gas when you press the clutch...so clutch, gas tap, shift, clutch,

  • Comment removed

  • Bass pro shops!!!! i love that store

  • Sorry for the barrage of questions, I just really want to know all the details, because most videos i find do not show everything. and I know the basics but little details like rev matching etc and clutch use/ clutch wear. Im just also not sure if i need to clutch twice to downshift through gear to neutral to new gear.

Thanks for the patience and if you could reply with detail thatd be great

  • @Mchang3838 New cars, no. Double clutching is only needed in older stick shift cars that don't synchronize the gear changes for you. I rev match and heel toe when I downshift so I don't jerk the car.

  • lets say im going 80 and im slowing down, i dont neccessarily need to clutch right away correct? so lets say im in 4th gear, and im slowing down for a red light, i can just break a little, and only clutch when cars not ready to handle that speed in gear then i neutral and break until stop at the red? and if thats the case i can also keep the foot on the clutch from my initial clutch to put it into neutral from 4th, so i can just pop it into 1st when lights green and let it off and gas right?

  • Also if im going really fast on the highway in 5th gear, 120 kph. and i need to slow down alot, not necessarily emergency stop. but a car infront of me is breaking like mad. Do i just clutch neutral and break? and if im lets say going 60 and turning a corner in 3rd or 4th gear, can i just let my foot off the break, clutch neutral and then hold my foot on the clutch, and when the car slows down or matches the speed of previous gear, i can just throw it into that gear and let off clutch gas to go?

  • Or do i need to slow down a little bit, until it goes into 4th gear speed before changing? or will that stall?

and for reverse, there is no real speed limit to its gear right? mostly with automatic i let my car roll out in R gear with no gas unless its needed. and foots on the break. so if i clutch in, reverse, let foot of the break, will it roll out automatically? if it doesnt, cause ur reversing on a hill, is it the same as first gear starting?

  • More questions, When Im gearing down, is rev matching important? because I was led to believe any gas pressing while clutch is in wears it out, except for putting it into first gear and starting it where its like a pendulum movement

And if I need to down shift, do i need to reapply clutch every gear ? even when i dont press on the gas? for instance, im going 80 on the highway and im in 5th gear, i wanna go 4th and 3rd, can i clutch and throw it into 4th gear right away from 80 kph?

  • Ok I got a couple questions... please dont make fun of me, I really want to learn standard driving

Ok first off, can you give me an approxmiate range of gear shifting? like first gear, 10 - 20? second gear 20 - 30/40 kph etc? or is it completely different for each and individual car?

and is it always better to throw it into neutral to stop? cause its using your clutch less, and you mentioned break pads cost less than replacing the clutch? so whats better, gearing down to slow down/stop or neut

  • Comment removed

  • what happens if you dont let your foot off the gas when you change gears??? and at high speeds 100miles per hour do you still have to use clutch??

  • @theeGAME360 if you dont let off the gas, your going to rev the engine as your trying to shift..your rpm will rise and when you do engage that gear then your tires will spin faster than it should and you'll lose some traction. plus it cant be good for the car

  • @theeGAME360 if you're power shifting you don't let off the gas at all. I don't do it because it's not the best for your car haha.

  • kool video pretty helpful..normal easy for me to understand im soo use to auto transmission but getting my mini soon 6 speed so at aleat i got an idea of what im in for thanks...

  • @tommygirl90 I don't like the feel of the Mini's transmission. Maybe you'll like it better. Enjoy.

  • i dont know why i like this vid so much it is just so good and it looks like a really nice summer day. but here in indiana those only come around about once every month. but it is a good vid and i am encoraging u to make more

  • cool i have an MK5 GTI with manual gearbox

  • This was useful .. im thinking of getting an infiniti g35 coupe..all automatics are out of stock and all they have is manual.. guess who has to learn to drive manual 0.o

  • @kkabuto06 I have a few suggestions for you. 1: Take off caps lock and talk like a normal human being. 2: Learn how to speak proper English. 3: Shut up. People like you are despised on this website. And for the record, I don't delete any comments and I can't delete dislikes. So what I reccomend is that you get off the PC, go out and try to get some friends or something because I know you're too scared to say anything to my face.

  • ILL TEACH YOU HOW TO DRIVE A CAR SON. I WILL EVEN BUY YOU A CAMERA WITH DUAL SCREEN SO YOU DONT HAVE TO MOVE YOU FEET SO MUCH. HA HA HA!!

  • 3:54 was a little scary at least for me, but apart from that, i loved the video, and i've learned something so i won't embarrase myself 2morrow. thank u :)

  • @doreen622 Hahaha everyone thinks my car flipped. :D

  • @GTI6speed THIS MOTHERFUCKER IS A DUMB ASS. SWINGS IT INTO NEUTRAL IGNORING THAT HE COULD DAMAGE THE GEAR BOX. YOU ALMOST DROPED THE CAMERA DUMMY. ERASE THE VIDEO AND START ALL OVER AGAIN. I BET YOU MOTHER DRIVES A STICK BETTER THAN YOU (MY STICK OF COURSE)

  • @golftrailsucks You have no clue what you're talking about buddy. I recommend you learn proper English and move out of your parents' house. Just another waste of a Youtube account you created.

  • dude. dont swing the shifter by swingin it left to right too fast. you can easily break the gears.

  • @golftrailsucks You obviously have never driven a stick car have you...

  • @GTI6speed you almost drop the camera!! ha ha ha !! what a dumb ass. Erase this video and start all over again son.

  • @golftrailsucks *You almost dropped the camera. Yes. And you almost passed second grade. Unfortunately, not every human being has intelligence. You sir, being one who lacks intelligence. Quit trolling and go eat an eggroll or something.

  • In soviet russia car drives you

  • Driving without due care and attention is a criminal offense;)

  • @lMisterMeaner I was paying attention...while I was moving (;

  • Never seen the inside of a Volkswagon, They look really nice, or at least yours does. Great video this really helped.

  • @Richee8 Yeah VW's get a lot of hate for whatever reason but they're really nice cars. Just take good care of them and they're a blast to drive.

  • Your a good teacher now I just need an open parking lot and maybe I'll remember what you said if not I'll just stall my car again haha

  • @rosariotello EVERYONE stalls every now and then. I don't care who you are. Sometimes you have a brain fart and forget to do something and stall. I actually stalled the first time on a road the other day trying to get going really quick and wasn't thinking. It happens to the best of us.

  • awesome vid!

  • i would like to start filming my driving just for lols but i was just wondering how you have your camera attached behind you??

  • @Timizkool It's just sitting on a tripod. That's why it fell over at 3:54. I'm gonna make a more aggressive driving video soon with a friend of my girlfriend holding the camera.

  • @GTI6speed *friend OR my girlfriend

  • I'm buying a 96 mustang svt cobra, its a stick and I've never driven stick :/ I have to drive it from detroit to where i live on the freeway, Ima cross my fingers.

  • great video man! this def. helped me learn how to drive my 1983 honda.

  • Learning to drive stick in a Mazdaspeed 6 was quite the terror. The uphill start was quite the challenge.

  • @HalfBreedMix Oh buddy I would imagine..burnout on accident I'm guessing? Hahaha.

  • @GTI6speed LOL, yeah, first that Speed6 tried to put my head thru the windshield everytime I stalled it. Then it was a burnout at every stop light in order to avoid anymore stalls. People on the road thought I was a complete tool; launching out against minivans and whatever else .

The "window of time" for the clutch->gas switch is so damn short in that Speed6 (as compared to a 350Z).

  • @GTI6speed hey thx for the vid now all i need to do is get behind the wheel :)

  • Good video, i'm 15, going on 16, and I'm buying a 1993 dodge 250 cummins. :D This helps. Once again, Thanks!!

  • @biggrigger332 Can't go wrong with a cummins. I have a buddy who has one and boy is it actually fun to drive.

  • @GTI6speed My bro has one, and it's a beast. :D maybe I'll do a video like yours... where you from?

  • @biggrigger332 thats a fine truck ive got a dodge to but its only an auto i wanna find an old manual within the year im getting rusty :P

  • @halorocks647983 It's so hard to fine them. FYI....

  • @biggrigger332 I know it sucks :(

  • Good video

  • @BlackGT45th thank you sir.

  • @Laceyr2d2.....ummmm pretty sure he's taken. sorry chick :( i agree though! he is pretty hot ;D

  • Your hot thats all i have to say!

  • ur a great teacher!

  • 3:54 It looks like the car is rolling over :P

  • u were exactly right when u said u dont think about it, u just do it. thats how i drive the best. too much thought can cause failure

  • you realize you arent changing gears, your changing the pumps right?

  • @Universound57 You realize you're only making yourself sound like a troll right?

  • fail at stalling

  • why u shift so fast. at lower rpms every gear?

  • @GTI6speed what if I'm in third gear and up and need to make a turn do i downshift to a slower gear or what ??

  • @laisCOOL24 probably yes - but you will notice if you're too slow for third gear the whole car will vibrate, you will also hear it

  • @laisCOOL24 If you are pro enough at driving stick: No, you don't need to. But ideally you would

  • @MetalForLife19087 yea this my first time so i want to know everything i need to help me

  • @laisCOOL24 if you need help with anything, just message me and i'll see what i can do

  • I was just playing this song in my mind! wtf!

  • I'll be taking my first driving lesson in a couple of hours, I've been putting it off for almost a year now and I'm still dreading it.. I think I've watched this video three times already. Thank you so much for uploading this, it's just brilliant.

  • @rebekkaariel Glad it helped. :D

  • Getting a new car in a week and it's stick shift. My sister's a pro at driving stick and plans on showing me all the kinks and tricks, but this is definitely an additional source of help. Cheers!

  • @ChrisTheMediaMan There are a lot of advanced techniques but you don't really need to learn them until you're pro at normal driving.

  • So when your slowing down with the brake do you apply the clutch first

  • @blackeysk8 It doesn't matter.

  • @spikeisag1213

It takes about one week :) you'll see it's very simple :) and it's waaaay funnier to drive stick ;)

  • how long did it take you to get the hang of it?

  • @spikeisag1213 if you drive every day, than after week you don´t think about it, you just do everything automaticaly...in some cars it takes more time ;) my opinion, my own expirience

  • @spikeisag1213 about a week or so.

  • thanks bro this video really helped me out alot bro...i only knew how to drive automatic but i got bored and wanted to learn stick and i haved watched other videos but honestly this video is way better you explain things way better bro thanks.

  • watching these still makes me happy.. I love driving stick! I got an Audi A4 3.0 Quattro

  • @letts009 Sweet! I love Audi's. A girl at my school drives a 2.0 A4

  • @GTI6speed they are very sexy cars. gotta love the V6!

  • My car doesn't have an RPM gauge it just tells me when to upshift, so how do I know when i'm at the right RPM's? So basically, to get going, you rev up to about 2K RPM then slowly release the clutch?

  • @MrRepelrepent Yeah pretty much. Just listen to your engine. You'll know.

  • @MrRepelrepent it doesn´t have to be like 2K RPM :) in other cars it could be even about 3K...it depends - Diesel or Petrol car, how powerful...if you want accelerate you shift later if you want drive ECO you shift earlier...but if you shift too early the car will start like shaking and the engine will start rubling a bit...everyone feels it differently...as"GTI6speed" said, listen to your engine...it shouldn´t rumbling and it should´t to be too forcibly in high RPM

  • Getting a mustang in about 6 months, my boyfriend won't let me buy an automatic so he's teaching me to drive his 2011 scion tc(6-speed). I have a hard time transitioning between the clutch and gas :( Thank god getting going is the hardest part.

  • @StacieWacie92 You'll get used to it. It becomes a reflex.

  • Must be that no stall technology. Love those germans..lol

  • @nishjaxx Hahaha I let it out slower than I thought...I stalled a lot when I first got it but for some reason I never have stalled on a road...always in my driveway or parking lots. Haha.

  • at 3:52 i swear the car tipped over for a second

  • hows the sound system in the gti

  • @hockeyplaya2029 it's pretty decent. It sounds good until you turn the bass all the way up and play like rap or something with high bass output haha

  • @GTI6speed haha damn i like a lot of bass

  • Pretty Sure You Need A Truck

  • @Goose2448 1998 Ram 1500 5.2L

  • @GTI6speed Not too bad, but a 5.9 would be better.

  • @Goose2448 Yeah. My dad's had it since '98 but never really drove it...it's only got around 38k miles on it. I drive it when I don't wanna get the GTI dirty. haha

  • good vid and nice car.

  • Rollin' without Stallin' LOL.

  • Sooo.....when your stopped do you have to hold down the clutch on all cars?? Or is it only on some cars .....

  • @crossdatb0i If you have it in gear yes. If you're in neutral, no.

  • i would pretend i didn't know how to drive stick just so he could teach me :P

  • Comment removed

  • Nice t-shirt =]!

  • @aznxdope bass pro! :D

  • thank you! i started learning stick today and i couldn't quite figure out how to make the clutch and gas meet so i don't stall the car or rev it up too much so it gets that like, scary noise like the engine is gonna blow up. this is the best video i've watched by far! :)

  • who bought you that? Mommy Or Daddy? Spoiled bitch.

  • @chrisa913 SPOILED? its a cool car but it isnt that much money wtf? i smell a punk bitch hater on here?

  • @chrisa913 wow, why the hell does it matter how he got the car?! what kind of asshole are you to question what others choose or buy. even if the car was a lambo , you still have no right to hate on someone . Fuckin dickhead

  • @chrisa913 I take it your parents did not get college educations and/or they don't have a decent job?

  • @GTI6speed actually my mother is an assistant district attorney and my father owns 4 japanese restaurants. so you can suck on that. they just wanted to teach me that you have to work for what you want in life, that's what they did and it worked out for them. sorry, i don't sit on my ass and receive a 35,000 car. i actually work and pay my car insurance and gas on my own. bought my own car too. Sorry im not a spoiled little cunt like you.

  • @chrisa913 Looks like someone is a little upset that they had to work extra hard to buy something themselves. I'm so sorry. You can cry about it behind your computer screen. And for the record, the car was $19k. I'm sorry I get rewarded for being in all Honors/AP classes and maintaining a 4.7 GPA so I can one day buy my kid a nice car.

  • @GTI6speed Not upset in the slightest. spoiled rich kids are so delusional. you wouldn't know the value of a dollar if it walked up infront of you and kicked you in the balls.i bet you have never worked to buy anything a day in your life. sorry buddy none of this spoiling will help you when you are on your own. you will probably live off your parents until you are 35.

  • @chrisa913 From how you're talking to me, I take it that you are a 35 year old man who still lives with his parents. Can't get out of the house so you decide to sit on youtube and try to act all tough. Were you bullied in school? I'm 16. I do occasional little jobs. When I'm older and out of college actually making money with the education that I WORKED FOR, I'll be able to buy my own things. Get off my page you ignorant prick.

  • @GTI6speed actually i'm 17 years old. older than you and know more about the real world and know more about finances than you could even think about. HAHAHA occasional little jobs? sounds like you are handed cash on the daily, wow you are quite a hard worker. school ain't shit compared to a job so shut the fuck up.you have no fucking idea how much it takes to make 19,000 dollars in today's soceity.

  • @chrisa913 Congratulations. You're less than a year older than me. Want to try to act any more tough?

  • @GTI6speed well i don't need to considering you already showed the lack of a nut sack you have when you bought that piece of shit Volkswagen

  • @chrisa913 you probably work hard on the corner sucking dick. ass whole lolol rofl

  • @chrisa913 lets see. He's a kid who's parents bought him a great car for good grades. Instead of being a total fucking dick, like you, he makes a vid to help people to learn how to drive a stick. You, on the other hand, work hard for your car and your still a bitch who contributes nothing but trolls. Guess there are truly assholes all over. If you worked so hard for yours how you learn to help out people instead of being a total scrotum.

  • lucky i had to learn in a car with NO RPM meter but now im a pro :)

  • golf gti man..

  • at 3:52 I thought your car turned over. I was like WTF!?

  • @tek87 hahahaha i'd be jumping outta that thing. :D
