  • I was there in the summer of 1978. I remember getting eat up by sand fleas and taking the last practical laying in poison ivy. You had to do the whole thing laying flat or you failed. I also notice the same building. There was a quote from Chesty Puller on top of one of the doors going from one class room to another.

  • All looks the same as when I was there in '91. Thanks for the video, brought back alot of memories.

  • They are still using the same building that I went through when I was at FMSS in 1976 .

  • going to camp lejeune aug 1st...anxious as hell now...i wont b classed up til the 11th tho :(

  • I signed HM and i go right after my A school, nervous as hell but excited. id appreciate any advice anyone has if uve ever been or just went through FMSS

  • God, having a flashback here...

I was FMF 77 to 92, good times, right? Combat litter course in the NC mud, set up the Field Hospital in MOPP4 gear, all that happy horseshit. Somebody has to keep the Jarhead Corps in line, right Doc??

  • The pissed off dude throwing the rifle into the woods. Was that HM1 Testa from 3rd, after the 8 mile hump?

  • I can't believe I went through this 20 years ago. OORAH!

    Jayvee Mateo, HMC(SW/AW/FMF), USN, Ret

  • how long does it take to become a corpsman and a field corpsman?

  • minimum 14 weeks for corpsman school and 6 weeks for field training.

  • hi one quick question im planning on joining but i would really like to be an HM(FMF) corpsman but i dont know if women can be so can a girl be an HM(FMf) corpsman???

  • BZ on finishing off field med. Did you by any chance run into HM1 Kmetz when you were there? My class was 05180 4th plt.

  • haha yea i remember that guy. he was in charge of 2nd plt during my class. he, uh, liked to PT to say the least.

  • in the end being combat corpsman and up there with the marines is closed to women right ?

  • I'm attached to a reserve grunt unit and is is possible that female FMF corpsman to be attached to marines, but more than likely they will serve in garrison (not in the front lines).

  • all combat is not for women although women are placed as security and other jobs sometimes that put them in danger

  • Do you go here right after navy basic?

  • no, first you go to hospital corpschool, then to FMSS/FMTB. its a good time, i grad in a week, it was a good experience. its basically giving corpsman what marines get during basic training, the weapons and patroling stuff that and combat medical training

  • how long is FMSS and corpschool?

  • maximum of 14 weeks for corps school, its selfpaced. and fmss is 6 weeks (i think)

  • Do you go here right after navy basic?

  • so what is FMSS

  • for anyone that has been to FMSS, is it gender-integrated? if so, what challenges does that present?

  • Did you see the video? theres lots of running, 2,4,6, and 8 mile hikes, obstacle course, pretty much like marine boot camp minus the yelling and treating you like a recruit. theres a lot of learning and theres 5 tests to pass on medical/marine training. camp lejuene NC is gender integrated. camp penellton CA is just males.

  • Did you not read my question? I didn't ask what training you did I ask what challenges does gender-integration present.

  • if youre in the military then you'd know that there is very few "gender-integration challenges" . we learn to work together and see past gender, females run/work/lift/carry just as much as the males. besides sleeping in different locations, thats about the only difference.

  • wrong and wrong.

"females run/work/lift/carry just as much as the males." males can run, lift, and carry more than females.

"besides sleeping in different locations, thats about the only difference." in the field, we don't sleep apart.

you are severely deluding yourself if you think, (at the very least) physically, men and women are the same.

  • "males can lift and carry more" DEPENDING on the male. half the guys in my plt, i could run circles around. but when we did our hikes, males and females were required to carry the EXACT same weight. no exceptions. females dont get special treatment out there. we all have the same expectations.

i will NEVER have a guy carry my shit for me. its just embarrassing. im sorry that the females youve come across are lazy . but not all of us are like that.

  • yes, it depends on the person, I know females that can run a 19 minute PFT, but they are the exception. she is a cross country runner and can run, but has no upper body strength. PFT/PRT run and strength times and scores (and body fat %) are different because men and women's bodies (ON AVERAGE) are very differnt. you have to agree to this.

  • @katynkitty You must have had a shitty plt if you could run circles around them. I have never met a girl that could run circles around half my platoon. Also just so you know the training in Lejune and Pendleton are not the same.

  • @TheNightwolf13 How about a girl who ran cross country for 4 years before joining the navy? of course i had more stamina than a guy who never ran a mile before he joined.

  • nice video 2nd platoon august class 2007

  • u two just mad that yall couldnt hack it...get some bitches

  • MOTARD!

  • I was 1rst platoon back in the day. 00-01. It sucked then and it looks like it still sucks now. Get out and get a degree or be bossed around by half wits the rest of your life.

  • your right man I was there from 02-03 pa school admin hated that shit almost done with my degree

  • Nice red...
