  • the soul of Soul Coughing was the entire band...as evidenced by Mike Doughty's solo career. i liked his solo stuff, don't get me wrong...but it wasn't Soul Coughing, and in a pretty major way. it just sux that he and the band didn't get along. don't want any of them to be in "hell," but it's also not cool to get us all addicted to their stuff and break up! whatever. at least we have these tracks...

  • every girl loves a good line.

    right, love?

  • I don't like some of the things Mr. De Gli Antoni said in that article, such as: "Doughty is not a musician, he's a wordsmith" that's bullshit because Doughty is a great guitar player let alone singer/songwriter. That's like telling De Gli Antoni that he's not a musician, just a guy who samples shit. Nothing against Mark, but it disgusts me that he even said that about Doughty. I know Doughty had some problems while in the band, but it's a band it's everyone's fault. Not just Doughty's.

  • Yeah, the article is pretty interesting. There is a newer one out with Doughty, talking about Soul Coughing, or hell as he describes it. I put the link on the video description if you want to see it.

  • @dododummy great article! Wow I never knew Doughty felt that way. I knew he hated Soul Coughing, but I didn't know that's how he was feeling while he was in Soul COughing. That came out a little funny, but you get what I'm saying?

  • I do, but I really really don't know what to think of this situation. From many accounts, Doughty wasn't the nicest person....but stuff can change. And that article with Mark kinda made him sound...kind of a not good person, I guess. It sounds like they just hated each other, but they really were special, and I would still rather have the four of them suck up their pride and go on tour than not. But that seems preeeeety bleak of an idea now.

  • @dododummy that's true. I've never met Doughty, he's a nice guy nowadays, right?

  • @dododummy His live stuff makes me think he's pretty vain. Lots of the stuff off of smofe and smang make me think that, too.

On another note, i agree with you, the band should have stuck together. His solo stuff isn't as good as his soul coughing days, though there were some good songs off of yes and also yes.

  • @hootieman92 Ha - somebody agrees with the "wordsmith" quote in their amazon review of The Book of Drugs - see the one-star review (Mark? He claims not...)

  • interesting that article
