interesting - I always wondered where this song came from... now I know the original...and glad to see WIlder and Kahn did it such justice! ----- how did you download the sound for them...it is crystal clear.... for UTUBE well done!
During the movie's original run in the 1970's I returned to the theater repeatedly, buying new tickets each time, largely just to view this scene. Now all it takes is a click on YouTube! (Great post. Thanks!)
@PonyExpressTHIS - -- - - well worth paying to see this scene over again... I agree... loved this silly scene as a kid they did it bang on .... so entertaining... glad someone posted this.. .
I saw this when I was little. This scene - Marty's hopping, & Madeline's singing stuck with me. I just saw it for the 1st time since, & it was such a treat (Gene also wrote Young Frankenstein with Mel Brooks. He's an underrated writer). This whole scene's so funny - Miss 'LIAR!' Madeline telling Gene ('Siggy') she wanted to hold some man's - 'winkle.' Even Leo McKern screaming 'yah!' repeatedly - for NO reason. This, & Madeline as Eunice Burns in WHAT'S UP DOC never fail to crack me up.
I absolutely love this movie...I had no idea the Kangaroo Hop existed before this though! I saw The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother as a kid and laughed my butt off...the Kangaroo Hop part was one of my favorite scenes! Thanks so much for this post!
When I first got cable TV in 1976 I watched "Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother" on Home Box Office (not yet called just HBO) repeatedly. This was my favorite scene. It made no sense for them to just start singing and dancing here, and that added to the enjoyment.
Editing an original recording of the song together with this '70s version is genius!
I love this movie so much. A few years ago I stayed home from work cuz I was really sick and it came on and once I started watching it I felt great. I couldn't believe I'd never heard of it since it was so funny. This is my favorite scene. Oh, and when Madeline Khan is singing and the gun goes off too.
@smileyousonofa Oh s**t! LOL! I saw Young Frankenstein when I was 8 years old, and instantly got into this group. So when this film came out the next year, I was first in line. I thought everyone had totally forgotten. Leo McKern and Dom Delouise were fantastic as well. Really a great and underappreciated film! And one of my all time faves! Thanks for posting!
@smileyousonofa Haha, I just got your screenname! Another great movie from 1975! "Japanese submarine slammed two torpedoes into our side." Too cool! :D
I remember when we had this on VHS. My brothers, sister and I learned the song and we used to dance and sing it all the time. It was great to be reminded of it. Excellent.
Sherlock Holme's Smarter Brother was not appreciated in its time. It was a great Gene Wilder film also starring Madeline Kahn and Marty Feldman. Dom Deluise and Leo McKern turned in extraordinary performances as well. Perhaps here on YouTube it may get its just acclaim after thirty three years.
HOLY CRAP! I totally forgot i made this comment... only found it again cause my sister wanted me to dance with her and for some reason the kangaroo hop came to mind XD
I love Madeline's background, vocal harmonies while singing Kangaroo Hop!
She is missed!

I think this is one of the greatest Australian songs ever written.
The reason - because it was written by Great Grandfather Australias first pop Star!
