I've grown up on Satriani and his style and music have been practically like a vocabulary spoken for me but he needs to think about writing better music with Chickenfoot from now on instead of trying to stay in the public eye by pulling PR stunts line this. I just don't see enough similarities at all for him to have claimed copyright infringement. I know the case has been settled for awhile but it just gets to me.
@dpshtintolrnt1 I agree with you. I think it's a real stretch to say that the songs are substantially similar enough one could have been been derived from the other. It's essentially a few notes in a melody line with a similar chord progression. Also, I'd say - and I'd say this as a teenaged Satch lover - that the Coldplay song is much more compelling and catchy and has a far more interesting arrangement.
Respond to this video... created or written? maybe instead you've copied some stuff off of other people :P ohhh wait.. like coldplay who you seem to like.. WTF! their last album with rihanna sucked to the nth degree... you can't claim shit about satch!
To the people accusing Coldplay of theft, you can only steal something you are deliberately aware of. The reason that they had to settle up is because they could not prove that they had never, at any time, heard the Joe Satriani track (which is a good song, no argument) even if it was in the background somewhere and it had slipped into their subconscious. I adore the Coldplay track and this dispute does nothing to diminish that for me - and Joe Satriani got his payout. Everyone's a winner!
Well, I think Coldplay could turn aroun and sue Katy Parry now --- ever hear her song "Firework"?? I swear the intrumental version of Viva La Vida is played in the background of the song!!
@Fcutrechtfans Uh... the whole rhythm, structure, key, tempo, chord progressions are the same... it's the same fuckin' song, that's why Coldplay gave Joe a big ol'e out of court settlement.
@jmarroyo90 Exactly! Why not collaborate between these two musicians? I hate it when I see this kind of division in music between two great artists. One says "They stole my song!" Why not just come together with twoi good songs and make one great song!?
So, does that mean Santriani stole it from the Hispanic Artist a few years before or from Cat Stevens in the 70's since both those versions sound the same as these do? Who stole from whom? Don't dis Coldplay until you know where Santriani got it from.
gayplay sucks ass. satriani is fucking best!
