What do you expect when you build an attack plane and call it a fighter... that's what the f35 is. Except they removed its armor to meet the weight requirement, so it will also be inferior as an attack plane. Nobody's gonna send an f35 to do an a10's job.

I agree completely that the F-35 and F-22 are very lackluster; they're built to stealth-intercept not dogfight and people know it. the Armed Forces desperately needs to make a pure and true dogfighter aircraft not this JSF crap. the Sukhoi for example is a beautifully made fighter and custom built to be A true fighter. the Air Force needs to take a lesson from this and make a dedicated fighter aircraft otherwise we'll be severely outmatched.

This in addition to the f-18 and f-15 aleady make us the most powerful airforce in the world. 187 F-22's are more powerful then any airforce in the world now. 1 f-22 can do the job of 7 f-15s( the best fighter today) so 187 f-22s are really a force multiplier of 935( 1f22=5 f15s) and thats conservative.

Actually if you listen properly they are talking about dogfights within visual range. The JSF is almost total crap right, now indeed, but the F-22 is a powerful air superiority fighter. F-22 would be able to blow most fighters out of the sky even before they reach visual range. They are very strong against most air fighters in long range combat and when coupled with carriers.

Besides, I highly doubt that the Sukhois have a stealth detection range of more than 290km, as their stealth detection systems are IRST (Infra-red search and track), and are cited as being able to provide firing solutions for up to 15km. And besides that, stealth is mainly about seeing the enemy first, to get the first shot. The F-22's radar has a range of 400km, so even if the Sukhois could detect it 290km away, the F-22's would still see them first.
The fact that the Sukhoi can detect the F-22 far as 290 kilometers make the F-22 useless because the plane not has fire power to stop the Sukhoi.
Tha Raptor have a radar range of 201 kilometers or 125 to 150 miles not 400 kilometers faker. They planned upgrades the radar but sacrificed the F-22 stealth to 33% less.

The F-22 killed David P Cooley when the jet stops working after 1.7 hours and collapsed. Also the rain can cause serious damage to the F-22 and collapse.

NEITHER project has been cancelled.
F-22 production will continue until all 187 are delivered (over 140 units are currently in service--and will remain in service for DECADES).
The F-35 is still in preliminary testing and will enter IOC in a few years.

Actually if you listen properly they are talking about dogfights within visual range. The JSF is almost total crap right, now indeed, but the F-22 is a powerful air superiority fighter. F-22 would be able to blow most fighters out of the sky even before they reach visual range. Also, F-22s have very limited range and unsustainable firepower in order to make it self invisible(stealth). They are very strong against most air fighters in long range combat and when coupled with carriers.

The Sukhoi can scan the F-22 290 kilometers away with electronically scanned array detects the electronic resonance around the F-22 aka Russian anti-stealth technology. The Sukhoi PAK FA is a combination of both technologies stealth and anti-stealth. But the Su-27SM, Su-30 and Su-35 are equipped only with anti stealth technology. Are F-22 and F-35 hunters. It was a determining factor in Pacific Vision.

Why do you keep ignoring what I say? The flaw that made F-22's electronics vulnerable to rain in Guam has been fixed, the "Pacific Vision" wargame story was utterly and completely made up, and let's leave electronics and stealth systems out of this - any claims about these types of systems cannot be verified or rejected by anyone not directly working on these planes, and even then it is difficult.

Besides, I highly doubt that the Sukhois have a stealth detection range of more than 290km, as their stealth detection systems are IRST (Infra-red search and track), and are cited as being able to provide firing solutions for up to 15km. And besides that, stealth is mainly about seeing the enemy first, to get the first shot. The F-22's radar has a range of 400km, so even if the Sukhois could detect it 290km away, the F-22's would still see them first.

Tha Raptor have a radar range of 201 kilometers or 125 to 150 miles not 400 kilometers faker. They planned upgrades the radar but sacrificed the F-22 stealth to 33% less.

Oh, sorry for that, I (mis)read about the early warning system.
After some reading, the Su-30 and Su-35 radars have a tested detection range of 290km, while the Su-27 has a range of around 140km. So the Sukhois above the Su-27 will be able to detect non-stealth aircraft at a range of 290km, but their IRST systems for detecting stealth aircraft (like the F-22) have a range of around 80-100km.

There are no reports at all about any inability of the F-35 to fly in rain. There is only one report of F-22's having problems in rain, In Guam, as in the article I just quoted. And according to that article, they fixed it.

And like I said before, the only reason they are halting production of the F-22 is simply because they dont need more than 187 of them (or any of them at all really) to fight any of the possible enemies of the US in the next 50 years. Because the US is definitely not going to war anywhere in Western Europe in the next 50 years, and most likely not going to war against Russia or China in that time, and against any other country the F-15's and F-16's and F/A-18's will be more than enough.

Even if it did need maintenance every 1.7 hours, that doesn't mean critical failure. The journalists merely chose the phrase critical failure because they are horribly insular, ignorant sensationalist morons. Actually, according to air force statistics, the F22 exceeded 2 hours mean time before maintenance (MTBM) through 2008. Their goal is to have 3 hours MBTM by the time the fleet accumulates 100 000 hours flight - the latest F22's have already exceeded this. I already addressed rain.
