I work at the target in Virginia Mn, coldest target store, in December when theres a foot plus of snow on the ground, I'm out pushing carts, and in January, when it's -30 out, I'm still pushing carts. It's a bitch, but someone has to do it. We run that parking lot haha
Cart attendant of over two years here, this job really does suck balls. That said, it's the position with the most freedom, so I can't complain too much. IMO, cashiers have it worse.
I think the longest line of carts I've ever pushed by hand is 35 (give or take), and I needed some else's help to steer while I pushed.

I've been working as a cart attendant for about a year now, and that job can open your eyes as to how self absorbed people are about the trash they leave, (diapers, soda) and to how little they care about the bathrooms and where they leave their carts. You're right- it will make a man of out you in no time and make you realize this kind of job is not for the weak of heart or the weak willed.
After finally leaving Target with 6 years "invested" as a cart attendant, I wouldn't suggest it for even my worst enemy...It will make you hate the words "red, khaki, team, member, and guest"...GSTLs, GSAs, and LODs have almost never done any shit concerning the c.a. job...What's funny is that when I left, I was actually making more money than the GSAs (about 50 cents to $1 more)
But we did screw around...I listened to my I-pod while getting carts, even played my Nintendo DS a couple of times

Most ive ever done completly by myself was 36, when i had someone steering i did 49. Keep in mind i did this late at night where no one was there and i could clear the entire lot in one pass.

Between 2001 and 2006 I was a cart pusher for Target, Wal-Mart and The Home Depot in Las Vegas. Try doing 5 120 degree summers in the lot pushing those fucking things. and the people?? Those dirty fucking trash assholes are what made me the man I am today. I would honestly say I hate 90% of people.

Jeez, reading all these comments reminds me how much I hate being cart attendant myself sometimes. Been working there a little over a year now. I'm surprised they don't just put janitor as part of the job name with some of the crap they have me do. Our store didn't have a cart pusher... and they only scheduled 1 cart attendant at a time unless it was a holiday or something. The guy on the left had just clocked in to replace the guy on the right (he just hadn't hit the clock yet), and I'd just clocked out from cashiering for the day.

Overall, I kept that job longer than ANY job I've had and I've had jobs that paid $3/more than that. I enjoyed it, despite the bullshit. A lot has to do with your store staff.. but I like the freedom and ability to play around and basically do as you want. It was not a bad job, just bad duties. Overall, I'd do it again.

ive been cart attending for like a year and a half and damm its hot in south texas.. yea its a dirty job but you dont really deal much with people and if you keep up with carts then you dont even deal with gstls or lods so i dont really get bothered
Never work at Target they will pay you $7.75 to do carts or others. 1. Making sure the carts are not on the grass. 2. Wearing that vest outside all the time. 3. Cleaning shit and spills or chemicals. 4. Taking back stuff from guest service. 5. Carry outs. (No one is helping you) 6. Taking out the garbage. 7. Sometime you're doing peoples Jobs. 8. Cashiering. 9. Taking back hangers to the backroom. 10. Cleaning out the trailers. Plus no rises and they will treat you like shit.
Damn I feel bad for them. There taking advantage of yall and this job isnt giving you enough. Right now im still working at target but finally took my 2 weeks notice cause I got a new job and they pay me $12.00 hour plus i can get bonus raises that means i get more money. Target doesnt give you bonus raises, they cent up your wages in the next year, that raise go up to 15 cents. Target was my worst job and I thought CVS was bad and they both werent great jobs.
I've worked at target for a bit over two years now. I started at $7.
then I got a 30cent raise... then the store's minimum pay was raised to $7.50
then. I got a 90cent raise... then min pay went to $8.50. Just now I got a 68cent raise, but that's the max you could get. I work too hard for too little but I'm too lazy to go elsewhere.
I quit that job last friday and got a better job that pays me $12.00 hour plus i work more than 40 hours and i get bonus raises just becuz ive earn it. Sounds crazy right? But i got the best job than target, but the worst its nights.
Ive give up being a cart attendent, but now im a loader from a ice cream warehouse and they pay me way more than target, target is one of those retail jobs that always push you around for a short buck. Target tries to improve by there customers and thats all about it. But there failing from there employers cause they treat there employees like shit and they dont pay them well. Have any of the cart attendants on here ever receive any training for responding to chemical, blood, and "poop" spills, I received mine 9 months after I started.
When I started I did not even get a job description. After working for 5 months I was required by "supervisor" to sign it and give it back. I got to keep my 4 to 5 page job desription when we had are reviews. Is this common?
Target cart attendants are expected to do a lot of s**t. I have worked there for 4 1/2 years at a mall location where we have to go around a mall every night (weekends it is often 2-3 trips). We have a QuikKart that constantly needs charged or breaks down. Anyways, our store's record is about 200 carts on the mover, when it was brand new. Now, we are lucky to be able to do 40-50. We also have to clean restrooms every hour, even at closing. And there is only 1 of us usually during the week.
The thing about the 200 carts was that it was on Black Friday a couple of years ago (when they had one cart attendant there closing til 2 AM when the store closed at 11 PM). He took 3 hours to get all the carts around the mall cause there were so many.
yeah, we're the janitors while the store is open at our location (it is a money saving move for our store)...we are also responsible for cleaning up spills and doing carryouts; most of the cart attendants are also trained elsewhere in the store so we get used there too (i.e. front lanes, guest service, sales floor, food avenue, etc.)
and also, almost every person who shops at sams club takes a cart and makes a big mess of carts. And over here we got to help out members lift like furniture and 50 lb dog food and stuff a lot
...so do we. As a cart attendant, I was required to: Maintain carts. Clean all 3 restrooms once an hour. Backup cashier front lanes. Backup cashier Food Avenue. Take hangers from lanes to back. Take foreign from lanes to guest service, take full carts of foreign to proper areas. Perform carry-outs. assist in team lifts. clean spills. Keep lot clean. Keep trash cans relatively empty, clean cigarette sand. Sort and take requested hangers to fitting room. Assist in putting out merchandis ifslow.
Haha...well it just depends for us, we somtimes cover lunches of electronics, greeter door, gas station, tires & battery and merchadising. And we got to take care of all the trash. And we got to maintain the carts, ussually every single person takes a cart. And we got do carryouts. And we do have some bitchy supervisors and managers.
But it just depends. Weekends suck ass! ANd Weekdays are chill as hell, i mean seriously, we just got 3 new lot attendants and its just so much easier, you will see us just chilling most of the time, thats why i like this job and i get paid 9.50 an hour. We screw around so much !!!, how much u get? Try working at a sams club in your area.

Well this specific Target (non super target) has no quik-kart. It's relatively new, only a few years.. after the old Target was turned into an Albertson's. My safety captain told me that we did have one, but it was traded for 75 additional carts. No idea why.
I worked there from October of 07 to February of 08. I gave my notice to go work overnight at walmart. I had been there 4 months and had yet to even receive my 90 day raise..

hell yeah man. Cart Attendant isn't a hard job if you do it right. In my time working i've seen 3 so far come and go for slacking, and for other problems. I've only been doing it for a little while and apparently i've jumped to up to be the best one they've ever had.

wow, it seems like target carts suck. i am a cart dude at sams club, and the staff is usually pretty nice. i like the guys i work with and the freedom is nice, since u can kinda do w/e u want and not have to put up with the bullshit customers inside. i just hate teh asshole ppl that leave shit in carts or leave the carts way out in the parking lot, fuckin lazies
but other then that i get paid 9 bucks/hour so its not that bad

I work at Sobeys (grocery store) in Canada, I work cash and parcel pickup (carts) and I still only make minimum wage. I should be making more I think.

Between 2001 and 2006 I was a cart pusher for Target, Wal-Mart and The Home Depot in Las Vegas. Try doing 5 120 degree summers in the lot pushing those fucking things. and the people?? Those dirty fucking trash assholes are what made me the man I am today. I would honestly say I hate 90% of people.
Honestly It wasn't my first choice. I wanted to be a cashier.

We confronted her later. She complained there were no paper towels in the bathroom. If she had a brain, she would realize that there are only hand dryers. what a bitch.....

Jeez, reading all these comments reminds me how much I hate being cart attendant myself sometimes. Been working there a little over a year now. I'm surprised they don't just put janitor as part of the job name with some of the crap they have me do. Lately they've been cutting my hours and every time I stop working for like 2 seconds I get bitched at by one of the LOD's or GSTL's and they come up with some bogus thing for me to do. As far as the cart pusher thing goes I despise that thing.

Yea i can understand having that happen when a backup cashier has to help a cart attendant out, its pretty tough especially w/o a cart pusher but its incredibly stupid to push (46 in video) all by hand. I would of pushed half of that by hand. In your case it was a regular target and my sote its a super so theres 2 entrances. Targets needs to spend $ to get 1 cart pusher at ur store lol
Pretty hard to hire cart attendants since no1 is willing to do that job nemore so they be pissed if u left

I am a cart attendant and we use Quick Karts form Dane Industries. it is helpful and does not kill the spinal cord. what state is your Tartget at?

The thing I hated about being a cart attendant besides getting a farmer's tan from the hot Texas sun was finding all the crap people left in the carts. Got some nasty people out there leaving dirty diapers and trash. Man I wish I caught someone being nasty.

lol im a cart attendant and its looks like the guys in the video didnt have a cart pusher 4 some reason. Well I usually pull a big row in and the secret is to make sure that 1 row inside isnt full so u put them through in easily w/o blocking traffic. At my Target, we only have 2-3 cart attendants working on the block so its pretty hard to get stuff done bcus we're busy all the time and sometimes 1 doesnt even show up 4 work

Our store didn't have a cart pusher... and they only scheduled 1 cart attendant at a time unless it was a holiday or something. The guy on the left had just clocked in to replace the guy on the right (he just hadn't hit the clock yet), and I'd just clocked out from cashiering for the day.

I just randomly googled up this job after getting hired for it today, and now I'm horrified from all the hate towards it. I'm wondering if I should even go through with it. They're starting me off at $8 an hour though...what do you guys think? Yay or nay?

That's $1.50/hr more than I made.. of course it depends on where you're from, really.
Overall, I kept that job longer than ANY job I've had and I've had jobs that paid $3/more than that. I enjoyed it, despite the bullshit. A lot has to do with your store staff.. but I like the freedom and ability to play around and basically do as you want. It was not a bad job, just bad duties. Overall, I'd do it again.

Wow, really? I originally applied for Sales floor and during my interview, the interviewer asked if I was interested in any other positions. I blurted out cart attendant in fear of them not needing any more sales people. Stupid of me, and seeing all these negative comments about the position got me thinking.

Once you apply cart attendent, its going to be hard trying to get the girls, remember your going to do maintence and the garbage. And to top if off your going to clean shit out of the toilet. I dont want to hurt your feeling and im not trying to be an asshole, but find another job. You're 21 and you can find a better job than that plus that you can make more than 8 bucks an hour. Remember you've got the experiance, use it on another job. And never be cart attendant for no job. Peace.....

ive been cart attending for like a year and a half and damm its hot in south texas.. yea its a dirty job but you dont really deal much with people and if you keep up with carts then you dont even deal with gstls or lods so i dont really get bothered

Damn I feel bad for them. There taking advantage of yall and this job isnt giving you enough. Right now im still working at target but finally took my 2 weeks notice cause I got a new job and they pay me $12.00 hour plus i can get bonus raises that means i get more money. Target doesnt give you bonus raises, they cent up your wages in the next year, that raise go up to 15 cents. Target was my worst job and I thought CVS was bad and they both werent great jobs.

I've worked at target for a bit over two years now. I started at $7.
then I got a 30cent raise... then the store's minimum pay was raised to $7.50
then. I got a 90cent raise... then min pay went to $8.50. Just now I got a 68cent raise, but that's the max you could get. I work too hard for too little but I'm too lazy to go elsewhere.

I quit that job last friday and got a better job that pays me $12.00 hour plus i work more than 40 hours and i get bonus raises just becuz ive earn it. Sounds crazy right? But i got the best job than target, but the worst its nights.

Ive give up being a cart attendent, but now im a loader from a ice cream warehouse and they pay me way more than target, target is one of those retail jobs that always push you around for a short buck. Target tries to improve by there customers and thats all about it. But there failing from there employers cause they treat there employees like shit and they dont pay them well. Being a Target Cart Attedent is the worst job i ever had and i wouldnt do it again.

When I started I did not even get a job description. After working for 5 months I was required by "supervisor" to sign it and give it back. I got to keep my 4 to 5 page job desription when we had are reviews. Is this common?

Target cart attendants are expected to do a lot of s**t. I have worked there for 4 1/2 years at a mall location where we have to go around a mall every night (weekends it is often 2-3 trips). We have a QuikKart that constantly needs charged or breaks down. Anyways, our store's record is about 200 carts on the mover, when it was brand new. Now, we are lucky to be able to do 40-50. We also have to clean restrooms every hour, even at closing. And there is only 1 of us usually during the week.

The thing about the 200 carts was that it was on Black Friday a couple of years ago (when they had one cart attendant there closing til 2 AM when the store closed at 11 PM). He took 3 hours to get all the carts around the mall cause there were so many.

yeah, we're the janitors while the store is open at our location (it is a money saving move for our store)...we are also responsible for cleaning up spills and doing carryouts; most of the cart attendants are also trained elsewhere in the store so we get used there too (i.e. front lanes, guest service, sales floor, food avenue, etc.)

Haha...well it just depends for us, we somtimes cover lunches of electronics, greeter door, gas station, tires & battery and merchadising. And we got to take care of all the trash. And we got to maintain the carts, ussually every single person takes a cart. And we got do carryouts. And we do have some bitchy supervisors and managers.

ANd Weekdays are chill as hell, i mean seriously, we just got 3 new lot attendants and its just so much easier, you will see us just chilling most of the time, thats why i like this job and i get paid 9.50 an hour. At Target here, starting pay is $6.50. I checked with the cart guys at Sam's and they all started sub-$7 as well.

Well the Target where I live, the last time i went, i saw 2 quick karts and 3 cart attendants.

Well this specific Target (non super target) has no quik-kart. It's relatively new, only a few years.. after the old Target was turned into an Albertson's. My safety captain told me that we did have one, but it was traded for 75 additional carts. No idea why.
I worked there from October of 07 to February of 08. I gave my notice to go work overnight at walmart. I had been there 4 months and had yet to even receive my 90 day raise..
We had 3 CAs on Black friday. way understaffed.
