@themeaningoflife38 lmao, okay say they (enemy whoever they are) fires off an emp and you have steam cats on the ship, yeah they still work but you still have 1 problem, EMP FRIED YOUR PLANES COMPUTERS, so they are useless either way!
by 2015 these will all be implemented in aircraft carriers, it makes steam powered mechanisms obsolete. We are in the future people, live your lives as if the end is tomorrow. Carpe Diem.
Can I get one installed in my driveway for those times my mother-in-law comes over, and she gets on my nerves? I'll pay to have the arresting gear modified for her van ..... please?
@johnwaynegacy94 You are a fucking retard. Im not gonna feed you, you go failtroll some other video- not one you have no idea what you are talking about.
Russia's army is full of fags. Russian army is having all sorts of issues with male soldiers prostituting themselves to other male soldiers for as little as a bowl of soup. What planet are you living on, this has been happening for years in the Russian military?
now all a carrier needs are batteries and generators connected to the trap cables, to make a little bit of electrical energy when an aircraft lands on a carrier. no doubt the trap generated would be less than what the catapult uses.
@dogsbd I dont know man, english isnt my mother language so i probably missed the correct word, i just say that it seems less powerfull than a steam catapult, i´ve seen steam catapults working and the displacement was much faster...
Steam catapults are a very mature technology, in use for over 50 years. Do you really expect a brand new technology on its very first test to better that? That’s like building a new aircraft and expecting it to set a word speed and altitude record on its maiden flight.
But for what it’s worth, I thought the test looked every bit as powerful as a steam catapult, especially given that this was on a stationary field rather than a carrier moving at 40 knots.
@Semeiron The electro magnetic system allows a linear application of power. This means that the launch is much smoother than a steam catapult that instantaneously applies full power.
@trick0077 Way too big of a field more than likely and that would be just the first problem to address given the workings of the aircraft that aren't strictly mechanical in nature The application here is pretty cool though. Magnets and magnetic fields are cool. There's probably a long way science can still go with them.
I remember thinking that I was glad not to be a gear / cat dog. Hours and hours greasing that catapult looked like it was not fun. I will miss final checking in the warm steam that kinda kept ya warm on cold days and nights. That steam kinda had an aesthetic appeal to it.
@RoboTekno why dont they produce this EMALS system on a mass sale 40x the size and make super insanely fast trains than? looks like they have the potential. they really should.
@KuostA haha, that would be awesome :P Today's trains are kinda adequate in our culture, but this technology can be and is being used in other places like china and japan where public transport is used heavily :)
@RoboTekno Look up Urban Maglev by General Atomics. They're currently developing that type method of transport and they just finished building and test fired their own Railgun called The Blitzer for the U.S. Army.
Very nice. Nuke carriers have electrical power to spare. I remember reading where a nuke carrier was tied up and power lines attached to power a small city after some disaster. This looks much smoother and should have less wear and tear on the planes lowering maint requirements.
i know they could get the power needed on board a ship, but there are no current battle cruser ships that use nuclear power... unless i'm much mistaken
@RoboTekno lol i realise that's the simple thing to do, but it's a risk i don't think designers are willing to take, submarines are given them as they are safer being in the sea where they are out of sight, while a battle cruiser would be more in the open and available for attack, giving a risk of a melt down on board
@lyokoBSTN If they're good enough for carriers than why not other large ships? I mean Nimitz class carriers have two and others have more. Rail/coil guns can even be adapted to replace Gatling gun and other smaller projectile rounds.
your forgetting this is to be mounted onboard an aircraft carrier, the aircraft needs to be up to speed for take off within that distance else it would fall short and hit the water
watch behind enemy lines and you will know
