THanks for the post It was bothering me all these years what was after the line Like A Baby needs a Toy, now I know " Like Hawiians Need Thier Poi"....very good thanks again..
That IS Tina Louise's voice, she recorded an album of jazz standards a few years before "Gilligan" started. They might have sweetened it a bit for the show, but she did have a very lovely voice. Of course, people bought the album for the sexy cover shot too! All that red hair...WoW!
Rest in peace LITTLT BUDDY, i always fantazised about dropping into the island and sneak into Mary Anns and Ginger's bunk. Wow that was my everlasting fantazy. RIP all departed cast i will truly miss you through out the years
Tina Louise looks tall, so I googled up her height. I was shocked to find out she's only 5 ft-8 and 1/2! Dawn Wells is 5 ft-4 or 5 ft-6, depending on the source. Wow, I know two gorgeous women who are 6-1 and 6-3 and I thought Tina was 6 ft or more! Amazing how tall TV can make you look.
check it out...these byrds had hips and curves! Even Mrs. Howell. Now those were chicky mammas, daddy-oh! Turtlenecks, hip-huggers, velvet, go-go boots...what more could a man want? Oh, and a nectar surf 'a la Ventures' pop song!
I like this song very much because it is very good and it reminds me how important it is to need someone. I also like the three very attractive girls who sing it... hubba-hubba!
How fortunate that the gals happened to have these three matching mod velour outfits with them when they set out on the three-hour tour, so that they could perform this swingin' song on the island. And the three identical bee-shaped brooches too!
TRIVIA NOTE: The voice of Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) was dubbed by singer-songwriter Carol Connor.
The Mosquitoes were played by Les Brown, Jr. (Bingo), George Patterson (Bango), Ed Wade (Bongo), and Kirby Johnson (Irving). Three of the Mosquitoes (excluding Bingo) were actually members of The Wellingtons, the folk singing trio that performed the theme song "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island."
My take on the Ginger or mary Ann debate. If Ginger was standing there wearing the Minnow dress, and Mary Ann was sitting naked a few feet in front of her, I would walk past Mary Ann and not even look at her or notice her to get to Ginger.
Interestingly enough, they did an episode where Mary Ann is conked on the head and thinks she's Ginger. They deal with it by putting Mary Ann's clothes and a wig on Ginger, hoping the sight would shock Mary Ann out of her delusion.
I'll not tell you the rest of that episode, suffice it to say that I for one wasn't fooled for an instant.
Hi WhiteCamry,I was not fooled either which had me wondering about the real state of mind that MaryAnn had when she clearly believed that Ginger was in fact Mary Ann!
In psychological terms Mary Ann was suffering from a condition often mistaken for temporary dillusional recollection when it was actually a simple case of temporary misinterpretation which can be triggered by a bump on the head, etc. and last for hours and sometimes even days. Ginger pretending to be Mary Ann was the best remedy.
where did the electricity for the record player come from? and why were there records there..who brings records on a boat. unless your bogie and audrey hepburn.
i love this video and havent seen it in ages. thanks so much.
Where did the electricity for Thomas Edison's Phonograph come from? There wasn't any! This one ran the same way as Edison's. Ginger is one who may have brought records since she sang so much. Maybe Gilligan too, since he has often showed how much he liked the music of that day and since he and Skipper probably lived on the Minnow.
I could literally listen to this song all day long over and over--this and the "roadrunner" theme. Yay.
