The dogs that are mixed with pugs usually have larger ears, black faces, and eyes taht arnt set as far apart as a bulldog. A lot of people are doing this and making a fortune to the un educated buyer. Most breeders will provide a pedagree showing if there is any other breed in the lines
Some breeders do mix with pug,boxer,or terrier. A true miniature bulldog looks exactly like a standard. They are usually only 10lbs smaller fully grown. When breeders purchase dogs to breed they look for dogs that are smaller or slightly below the 55lb standard. By breeding a small male with female you get the "miniature" name. Miniatures are purebreds that dont meet the standard in size, but everything else.
theres also a thing called 'selective breeding' where instead of crossbreeding you select only the smallest to get your desired smaller dog, so u choose a smaller by birth fluke dam and sire and hope to get little puppies, then breed again til they get smaller. thats how they get the teacup chihuahuas etc,
@nicholasbhicks since there is no such thing as a "mini-bulldog" they are inbred. they do look for the smallest ones and breed them together. usually gandad to grandaughter. since it takes decades to make a new breed, and it would not be a profitable venture no one would do it. tea cup chawowows, mini bulldogs, other type breeds, just a health hazard waiting for your pocket book to open wide at the vets.
