  • I know this is a pretty old video, but I gotta say That tinder can is pretty ingenius. I've never seen that before but now plan to make one for my kit. Thanks Dave

  • your really good.

  • dave have you ever deep fried dandelion tops there really good

  • thank you that was intresting

  • OMG is that Dave from dual survival!

  • Hey I have a question. Whats the worse that would happen if you ate a plant that wasn't "edible" but it wasn't poisonous either?

  • @TheGamerguy778 The definition of "edible" is "fit to be eaten" (m-w.com) so if it's not poisonous, toxic, or otherwise not-fit, it should be edible. The issue is whether you derive any nutritional or medicinal value from the eating of it. Is it worth your time to look for, harvest, prepare and eat an edible plant that gives you nothing in return? not even a pleasant flavor to your water....

  • Skin a rat take out the guts put steamed wild edibles and insects into the stomach. What should I call this meal... Stuffed Rat...

  • -Plant as he is groping it- "Pleaase! don't eat me don't eat me!"

  • there is poison ivy EVERYWERE IN THE VID!!!

  • @WHATTH3BOY1 yeah but hes wearing pants

  • cool

  • haha a hobo stove lol

  • i think if a plant is close to the end of its season , when it starts to turn yellow to red, there is less chlorophyll , maybe those would taste better? (the guy said it tastes like chlorophyll) maybe an advantage to fall season eatin?

  • those dont look like wild strawberries the ones around my house are more like regular strawberries but the nfriuts are a lot smaller and really seedy

  • Nice video work. Interesting firestarter, I always wondered how easy those were to work.

  • Nice steeping idea with the bandana!

    Priceless Info Dave.

    5/5

  • What you said is woodland strawberries is actually some type of clover (Trifolium). I don't know exactly what type it is though.

  • nice camera

  • woodland strawberries, good eye.

  • dosnt really seem like the smartest place to light a fire because of all the dried leaves around but interesting way to start a fire.............

  • Because the more options you have, the better set you'll be. What if you lost all those? You'd be screwed. He just emphasizes having options. And knowing how to use those options. That's all.

  • What material did you use in the fire piston?

  • Thanks, but can you eat that stuff just raw or do you need to cook and steam it?

  • Useful - TY. I'm off to find me a fire piston. That's cool technology.

  • I love it.

  • great show man make more please!!!!!

  • are all parts of the dandelion edible?

  • All parts are edible. The stems are pretty rank though.

  • yes and quite delicious, u can put the flowers in tea

  • Dave,

Do you have a book(s) that you can reccomend for identifying wild edibles? I was looking at a book called "The Forager's Harvest" but, didn't know if you had any personal favorites.

    Thanks...

  • What was all that fire making stuff?

  • how to use a fire piston apparently.

  • I appreciate your efforts in these videos.

  • dandelions are usually bitter

  • Yeah the leaves are usually pretty bad but I have eaten raw flower tops that were'nt too bad in the past.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Dandelion greens are best two pot boiled. Boil in one pot of water, when almost done, transplant greens to another pot/cup boiling water. This takes the bitterness out of em. The bitter water of the first boil can be used for other things. Esp. meats ie,, mulligans/stews as a vegi stock.

  • maybe bitter until taste aquired but they are very good for you.

  • Personally, I love the taste and many consider them to be very purifying and a very good liver tonic.

  • great Ive been waiting for this will you be making another one. Awesome fire piston and that tea was bitter wasn't it

  • Yeah I will be making several more, I actually had a few segment I cut for time I will put in the next one. The teas was'nt really that bad, I was suprised without adding any honey.

  • Most of it. I was'nt really hungry. I have to be real hungry to eat that much green and no meat(Ha Ha)!

  • You end up eatin all that?
