I know this is a pretty old video, but I gotta say That tinder can is pretty ingenius. I've never seen that before but now plan to make one for my kit. Thanks Dave
@TheGamerguy778 The definition of "edible" is "fit to be eaten" (m-w.com) so if it's not poisonous, toxic, or otherwise not-fit, it should be edible. The issue is whether you derive any nutritional or medicinal value from the eating of it. Is it worth your time to look for, harvest, prepare and eat an edible plant that gives you nothing in return? not even a pleasant flavor to your water....
i think if a plant is close to the end of its season , when it starts to turn yellow to red, there is less chlorophyll , maybe those would taste better? (the guy said it tastes like chlorophyll) maybe an advantage to fall season eatin?
Because the more options you have, the better set you'll be. What if you lost all those? You'd be screwed. He just emphasizes having options. And knowing how to use those options. That's all.
Do you have a book(s) that you can reccomend for identifying wild edibles? I was looking at a book called "The Forager's Harvest" but, didn't know if you had any personal favorites.
@wildernessoutfitters Dandelion greens are best two pot boiled. Boil in one pot of water, when almost done, transplant greens to another pot/cup boiling water. This takes the bitterness out of em. The bitter water of the first boil can be used for other things. Esp. meats ie,, mulligans/stews as a vegi stock.
Yeah I will be making several more, I actually had a few segment I cut for time I will put in the next one. The teas was'nt really that bad, I was suprised without adding any honey.

Hey I have a question. Whats the worse that would happen if you ate a plant that wasn't "edible" but it wasn't poisonous either?

What material did you use in the fire piston?
lugnut77 2 years ago
Thanks, but can you eat that stuff just raw or do you need to cook and steam it?
