i have a 370z and i never use it, people that do are usually people that aren't to good at downshifting , which is a good way to save your clutch i guess, but might as well get a tiptronic......
I guess that is a neat thing for first time sports car people, but you could also have a gearhead friend, or driving instructor show you how. Might as well learn how to heel and toe as well.
so what happens when you decide to let the car roll? say your rolling at 70mph and you slip into N and you let roll then so you decide to speed back up with lets say 4th will the throttle get blipped in N or only when it senses your going into 4th gear??? i really want to buy a new car my choice is WRX STI or Nismo 370Z but i still want to do more research.
Why can't you rev match on your own? "heel toe" shifting? just watch a touge clip, if your clueless or own a 370. However, this is cool for douchebags with more cash than taste.
good video but hate the feature.. whats the point of driving a manual if the car starts doin the work for you? part of the fun is to learn your car.. and be one with it
@edwardheath1981 - In reality it makes you faster and more efficient... since it's one less thing to worry about and/or mess up. It allows you to focus more other things such as braking later and taking a later apex.... basically the same advantages as an automatic without any of the disadvantages. Anyone with actual track time under their belt would know this. ;)
@z33freak understood... but then get in another car and you're screwed. driving fast and especially on the track involves certain technique that this car can take away. heel toe shifting is one.. im just saying it dumbs down the driver.... bc it deff does. i think its cool but i feel like it does the opposite of making you a "better" driver.
@z33freak Just another way in which applicable driver skill is being taken away and assigned to a computer... kudos to the men who buy their Z without SRM.
@edwardheath1981 i think i agree with you. It will spoil your driving. I mean, how many cars on the road, going to have this feature. Best to do the tradional heal and toe if you can manage.
@edwardheath1981 if by shitty you mean lazy then yes i agree, but it's a great feature, for the car to automatically calculate the the rpm when you shift gears, you can push the car to the max if you want
hey i hear there are problems with the fuel gauge and how it doesn't ever go empty haha. is this true? how do you know when to fuel, if this statement holds true?
@cjsph88 - well... not having to worry about revmatching downshifts would be a big plus...but most noobs are lucky to get moving and shift to the right gear... downshifting is the least of their worries.
@cjsph88 I would think itll make learning to drive manual WAY easier..since the whole point is to learn the clutch/gear/rev match.....if it were me teaching someone, id get an older car so they appreciate the technology.
@VanTheManSLB inifiniti g37 basically have the same thing but only for automatic paddle shift and not for stick shift...but who cares nissan owns infiniti anyways
This feature is every sporty drivers dream. I mean i have no problems matching revs myself and heel-toe-ing while braking but this has to be so much fun.
this is definetely the clearest explanation behind it. i thought it would just kick it to where it needed to be and that's it, but that's cool that it'll hold the rpm there
so with this system you could pretty much drive around without the clutch and not burn the syncros out because it just rev matches all shifts for you?
@colestevens no, he said you have to push the clutch in for it to do the rev match. therefore, if u didn;t push the clutch it wouldnt match it for you
Don't get me wrong its a great feature to have but it makes driving a m/t not as fun. I love rev matching on my G37 and heal-toeing also. I would also like to have this on my infiniti but yeah than again I know I would get lazy shifting if I got it. =P.
Heard alot about this and always thought it would be really sloppy and just water down the driving experience but this video made my opinion do a 180!
Will the rev-match feature reduce the engine speed, if say, you select 3rd from 4th and depress the clutch for an extended period (to match road speed, per se)?
im not entirely sure what your asking, but it revs the engine when you drop into the gear, at that point its just like a manual. so just imagine yourself revving the engine perfectly as you drop the car into the lower gear, at that point everything else is the same. as far as from what i remember when i drove it
Takes the fun out of heel and toe a little, but at least you can turn it off if you want to. Still don't get what gear is knows you're going into, there must be sensors on the gate, if I go from 6th to 2nd at 45mph I guess it just knows to rev it to 5000rpm ish when I pass the 2nd gear gate.
honestly, this system is gonna hurt more than help on the track, cannot touch the real deal. Id rather do it on my own, i think this will get in the way... nice for rev match newbs tho
That's why you can turn it off. That would suck if you couldn't shut it off. What an awesome feature this is. I hope every manual transmission eventually has this feature. Again, only if you have the option of shutting it off when you wan't to like this car.
Good video, excellent description. I can see where this would be a great learning tool for a new driver looking to get the most out of his/her vehicle. Though like most people who buy a sports car with a manual, we get the manual for a reason. Do you have to disable this feature every time you start the car? I wish technology like this could be switched off indefinitely, instead of continuously having to turn it off every time the car starts, like for traction/stability control.
Yeah, you do have to turn it off if you don't want it on when you start the car but, it's only a button on the center console you have to push once. It's easier than using a turn signal.
I think they said something like that in fast and furious too..... toretto!!! haha no but nissan made it so you can turn the rev match off incase Keiichi Tsuchiya decides to drive the Z
Wow must be amazing for you MT drivers... Looks just like my 5AT when i downshift... I plan on getting the 370 in stick in another year or so. Looks like drivin manual again will be little harder to fuck up.
So this pretty much eliminates the need for heel-toe shifting?

So it basically makes the downshifts smoother, instead of feeling the car slightly slow when you release the clutch.
Anoush13 6 months ago
Does it do anything to your fuel economy? As in if you drive with clutch downhill, it keeps the revs up, doesn't it take some fuel?
