  • Aww, this is now unlisted? :( That is a shame, but such an honour to be able to see it even once :)

  • this breaks my heart. a million times over.

only audra can have that effect.

  • Beautiful!!!! although Ardyth VanScoy would school the living beejeezuz outta you.....I'll get you her contact!

  • 17 People would rather have a yacht

  • she's a great singer but to i just think that her voice sounds very choral in this song like she's singing with a large group and trying not to stand out (except for more towards the end) but still a great preformance :)

  • she is brilliant.

  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES <3

  • chills. every. time.

  • My friend performed this for our talent show. I was amazed at what a lovely story thisis.

  • This is the best version of the best song Jason Robert Brown has ever written. Enough said.

  • waw!

  • the end of the song is the best part other than her singing.. that end and resolve is BEAUTIFUL!

  • I ADORE this woman!

  • Where can we watch this concert?

  • Zij is zo ongelooflijk! Zeldzaam mooi.

  • @Jietp I agree Completely.

  • I love how she goes from pure opera performance voice, immediately to an extremely casual voice

    1:10

  • SING IT!!!

  • I love Audra McDonald...so...much!

  • This is such a brilliant song and such a brilliant arrangement and performance. The message at the end just hits you in the face like a truck. Beautiful.

  • it's so nice to hear this song done by someone with a rich tone like that! I'm so tired of hearing it screamed.

  • Damn those are some facial expressions.

  • wow, stunning :)

if i could like this over and over again i would :) x

  • Who the hell disliked this?

  • @Spces8472 15 idiots...

  • @Spces8472 me

  • This is just... gorgeous. You know a good actor is present if they can make you laugh one second and the make you get teary-eyed within forty seconds later. That's exactly what Ms. Audra McDonald did for me.

  • I just listened to a few other people singing this song...it's just not the same.

  • Audra is phenomenal. Truly blessed with a gift that inspires those of us who would like to follow in those footsteps

  • 'and i thought, my god'

    i cry every time.

  • I love you, Audra

  • Why is she so good? And goregous?

Will Swenson is a lucky man...

  • great performance, and I love the orchestral set-up :))

  • Fabulous <3

  • This was excellent! Excellent!

  • where's the Love button?

  • hmmm, not my favorite version at all....she lacks emotion, especially at the end.

Kristy Cates did this best, I believe.

  • @katiekisses04 you clearly dont know music. stick to reality shows and smirnoff ice. god i hope youre a troll.

  • @Oreoshakespear No, no emerald belly button here (but how cool would that be?!)

This version just doesn't do it for me...listen around and you might see that I'm right.

  • 'and i thought ya know... i'd rather have a yacht'

    ahaa lovee thatt partt <33

  • love love love it!!!

  • This is excellent!

  • She is amazing!

  • this song is so similar to Shire's Life Story from Closer than Ever, which was written earlier. I wonder if Brown knew it before writing this piece.

  • Oh my goodness, she sings this song so incredibly well. I will never be able to listen to anyone else sing it! Audra is fantastic.

  • Amazing breath, diction, and dynamics! You go girl (:

  • @dawncullen009 Oh my, her breath carries her through the entire song and her diction and dynamics are spot on! I can't believe this is my first time listening to her sing this. Where has she been all my life?

  • my choir director showed me this song today and i had to look it up! this women sings it so beautifully i think i might sing it at a singing contest(:

  • I NEVER EXPECTED MY WORDS TO BE POSTED

  • LOL

  • Not only her voice is breathtaking, but the acting that she incorporates in this song is so genuine, refreshing and inspiring! Go girl!

  • she makes it look soo easy its ridiculous!

  • amazing!

  • i LOVE this song :) at my school, we did it in a show called Nights On Broadway and Caroline Daly came and sang it at our school! :)

  • This is nice, but she does a version sitting down with the composer, Jason Robert Brown, at the piano that I like better. It is the third one down in the Related Videos on the right. This version is a little overly dramatic for me.

  • where is that?

  • @tswiftchick There is a listing of videos to the right of this video. The last time I looked, the video with Jason Robert Brown was the third one down from the top. Now, it is the second one down. Audra is seated, wearing a black dress, 4:31 is in the lower right corner, it is posted by AudraMcDonaldFan, and as of now, it has 6,385 views.

  • Thank you, It was amazing like everything she does.

  • Lolz funny and fantastic :D

  • A perfect balance of beautiful singing and specific acting in service of a wonderfully written song!! Another great perf. by Ms. McDonald! What a talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish more broadway stars were like Audra...I am studying opera, and I wish broadway cherished it's voices like Audra's rather than some of the "pop-y" belters there are.

  • Jason Robert Brown is an amazing composer!

  • incredible

  • That's just... incredible.

  • She' s from Private Practice

  • Audra McDonald is one of the best singers alive. She sings the lead in Ragtime. Now shes on Private Practice

  • did she play Sarah in Ragtime?

  • yes, she was the original Sarah, and the one on the CD.

  • I knew it!! ONce I heard her hear and in some other songs as well anyways. hahha She's freakin' amazing!!

  • @addaniel1 she is an amazing singer... however she does not sing the female lead in Ragtime... she was in the cast however

  • isn't sarah the female lead?

  • No. Mother is the female lead, played by Marin Mazzie. Sarah is the second female. Audra did however play the female lead in 110 in the shade.

  • another fantastic show. go audra!

  • Really lovely song and such a beautiful performance!

  • I think I recolect hearing this voice before... Did she sing as the character Pocahontas in the Disney Film?

  • I think that was Judy Khun. I'm not sure though.

  • it was judy kuhn, you're right.

  • She played Grace in Annie

    =]

And is Naomi in Private Practice.

  • when did she play grace in annie?

  • It was in the ABC TV movie a number of years ago. Kathy Bates and Victor Garber were also in it.

  • :) Yep.,

  • No dear, that was Judy Kuhn

  • that was Judy Khun.

  • Her voice is basically angelic. She's amazingggggggggggggggg

  • She is the only person I've ever seen that actually does it well!! There's so much emotion in those crucial parts, and she does the throw away lines really well... "I'd rather have a yacht". Shows that the character really thought nothing of the wonderful things the guy was offering at the time.

  • It is in E...which is different than the original, which is in D

  • sound like the person who sing in the pocahontas songs

  • My heart breaks when she gets to "and I thought, 'My God'" the emotion in her voice is so pure and clear

  • She is just such an amazing singer and actor.

  • what key is this in

  • oh wow beautiful so sad

  • INCREDIBLE!! what an amazing voice and interpretation!

  • I love this, it is soo awesome. And I agree she is the only one that can do it!~

  • Audra is the only person who can sing/perform this song and bring me to tears - every single time.

  • her voice is stunning, her niece's is just as powerful

  • <3 it

  • Where can I find the sheet music for this???

  • Jason Robert Brown Anthology, or a lot of vocal rep books. It's one of the most available JRB songs.

  • We are not worthy!!!

  • SHE SOUNDS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol shes good:) isn't she from private practise??/

  • This such an elegant composition, that takes a tremendous amount of internal connection from the singer to the lyric. And a respect of the silence.

  • Beautiful women singing a great song...enjoy this vidio each time a play it..

  • Ok, amazing song, wonderful rendition as always from Audra, but is it just me or does anyone else crave a little more variation in the approach (acting wise) between all the men. I dunno maybe i'm crazy.

  • Well, this is a concert, if you have seen the musical "Songs for a New World," she does a wonderful job, but it's limited - and a different atmosphere.

  • This is such a beautiful song, and Ms. McDonald sings it with so much passion. It's just wonderful.

  • Amazing! She is so good! I died when I heard this.

  • I LOOOOVEEE THIS SONG!

  • A girl sang this for an open mic night like a month ago and I CAN"T get it out of my head. :) (but in a good way, I love it)

  • Thats a very good song. And the singer is VERY talented. Bravo.

  • A girl sang this in my summer music class seven years ago and I've been looking for the song for that long. I finally found it today, and it was worth the wait, especially sung by this woman with a wonderful voice.

  • Why is she on a TV show when she has this much talent?

  • Well at least she's dispalying it right now in Twelth Night. She's so amazing! Check out the video of her on my page.

  • She's a famous broadway singer. This is just a little concert. :)

  • I'm working on this song right now. It's almost there but it's so hard! Just the timing is fast and the song is really wordy! She is incredible though so of course hers is perfect!

  • hmmmm esto es casi una especie de musica salsa que chevere se escucha.

  • I love Songs for a New World!

I am singing I'm Not Afraid of Anything for an upcoming competition!

  • I've been listening to her Wheels of a Dream from Ragtime, no less amazing than here. Because she's Audra McDonald. I loooooove her!

  • OKAY I think I was the only one who heard ABOUT Audra McDonald and watched Private Practice without knowing Dr. Bennett was this amazing several times Tony award winner! !

  • So many people who sing this so dramatically and overact, but she sings so simply, sincerely, candidly, maturely, like she's telling a story to someone over coffee, but still conveys the fondness and regret that the character has of her memories. Her interpretation is incredible.

  • its almost insane how much i love everything audra mcdonald... its scary. i love her.

  • amazing

  • BRILLIANT!!! Audra McDonald is simply beautiful.

  • dont think i liked this version as much

  • this is a wake up call! i love her on private practice, i had no idea she sang too

  • Love her, but some of her entrances sound flat at times, even in the recording.

  • is this in a different key?

  • nope

  • this is definitely a different key. It's much higher.

  • yupp

  • SWEET LORD!

    This woman can sing!

    Lmaoo

    I love Audra <3

  • If I had to pick someone to trade voices with, it would be this woman. I have so much respect for her!

  • Comment removed

  • um excuse me!!!!!! 8O Audra McDonald is the BEST!!!

shes not forcing anything its called acting. This song is from show called Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown (an off-broadway show) and would only make since that she would perform it as if she was on stage.

  • yes!

  • Why is she slumming it on Private Practice??

  • GASP!

That's Audra McDonald on PRIVATE PRACTICE!?

I knew she looked familiar! What is she doing on that showw??

  • shes the best

  • hahahaha. I didn't realize that anyone was such a genius

sorry for bringing you down homey G

  • i went to high school with her..believe it or not..we had a class too!

  • artistic genius

    artistic genius

    artistic genius

  • I'm glad she transposed it up. This is a much better key for a soprano. Oh and she was great as always!

  • She for some reason reminds me of Judy Garland!

  • But without the drama and drug addiction.

  • audra mcdonald singing Stars and Moon? SO MUCH WIN!

  • I love this song and most JRB!

    And she's amazing!

  • I love her facial expressions! I think she is amazing!

  • She is INCREDIBLE. Not only a fantastic voice... but the interpretation. The clarity of meaning behind each word she says... chilling... thrilling... awesome

  • I love Audra! She has an amazing voice!

  • Chills.

    Amazing!

  • what a fiercie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I grew up with watching her as Grace in Annie, and she is sooo talented it's not even fair! Absolutely beautiful voice. I was in tears the first time I heard this.

  • I KNOW! It almost made me cry . . .

  • OMG i LOVE YOU

  • I am not Jason Robert Brown's biggest fan but this is simply AMAZING!!!! I LOVE HER!!!

  • You didn't like "Last 5 Years"?

  • Actually, that recently grew on me. I mean, how could it not with Norbert Leo Butz on the cd? So yea, good point.

I just think that all JRB songs really sound that same and I am not a huge fan of that with the exception of a few beautiful songs.
