I have a powercolor hd5870 with exactly the same specs as the sapphire 850mhz core clock and 1200mhz mem clock with 153mb/s bandwidth, i have a Q9300 o.c to 3.0ghz what frame rates will this run at exactly does anyone know, im gettin a new psu that why i havent actually tested it yet. of course the 5970 is better, it has dual GPUs, but im still very happy with my 2 5870s in crossfire, i can run every game under the sun on full max, Metro 2033, Crysis, BFBC2, CODMW2 etc.....1920x1080 aint no thang! 80+ FPS at all times, runs extremely cool and OCs great, got mine at 950Mhz/1300 memory!

Crysis Warhead isn't that good a game to test GFX cards on.... I have a GT 220 1GB DDR2 that will run all Crysis games with at least 90FPS on Entusiast, AA 4x at 1280x1024 resolution

Keep in mind this is with a typical motherboard where each GPU technically only gets 8x PCIe lanes either way (4 way 5870, each slot is 8x/2 way 5970, each slot is 16x divided by 2 GPU's). Image if you have the EVGA Dual Xeon Motherboard that can do 4x card @ full 16x PCIe. Than the 4 way would get even better, plus running dual 6 core Xeons with 24-48 GB of RAM. That would blow either of these away.

Well it seems that ATI still needs to improve the scaling effects of dual processing GPU units !

I thought that they (ATI) may have learned something by now, from thier past 4870X2 problem cards (the heat & drivers/ scaling issues)!

IMO- having 4 video cards is overkill and a budget killer too!

The reason why the 5970's aren't as good here as the 5870's is because they are made to be overclocked, they are factory underclocked 5870's, the reason behind this is TDP. That's why on the box it says they have so much headroom for overclocking. Watercool that shit and get core 1Ghz and memory 6Ghz like AMD say you can then test them against the 4 5870's.

It is just because the stock clocks of the 5970s are lower due to the power consumption. Ati has to keep the power consumption below a certain mark, so they lowered the clocks.

Trubitar is probably running at stock clocks, aren't you?

A more accurate comparison would be at the same clocks to see which performs better.

Given that each GPU of the HD5870 quad setup has its own dedicated PCI-e port, I would assume it would still be faster at equal clocks. On top of that, if you want the best performing rig, the HD5870's overclock better, in fact I have mine at 1GHz on the stock cooler. :D

HD5870's are clocked higher, and each GPU has its own PCI-e port, doesn't have to share it... Even more reason the HD5870 quad would be faster is you can OC each card to 1Ghz even with the stock cooler unlike the HD5970. ;)

Sorry, i looked at all the benchmarks for the 5870 on Far Cry 2 and everything maxed and i find that the average for the 5870 was 76 FPS. The other card in that setup from where you got your info was a gtx 285, fudzilla already reported on it. The GF 100 is all hype and no go. And for what there saying, who wants a very hot card that could melt the capacitor coatings on your mobo. Ill stick with my 5850 and the extra cash in my pocket.

I own one of those 5870 but I still think its smarter to buy 2 5970 instead of 4 5870s...think about the heat factor, the wirering omg....also there arent a lot of choices for boards out there with true quad crossfire. It will take some time before you see the difference because 120Hz has a little sharper image quality(yes higher hz does affect the sharpness) and it's calmer for our eyes. Your eyes will see the difference after a couple hours.
