Yesterday I downloaded the Virtual Console version and it is ridiculously easy. Thirty minutes into it, I can literally kill 90% of the enemies I meet before they so much as strike me once. Anyone else have the same experience?

You're not underleveled at this point. I was at about the same level (possibly even LOWER!) when I was at this Cave Eblana. I DO, however, remember the lowest level I finished the game at: Level 56 or 57! Hahaha

This is ABSOLUTELY NOT the Easy Type version of FFIV. The Easy Type version was more or less the US FFII with the Japanese FFIV script. It's missing items+spells and most of the enemies are lower leveled. I haven't really been paying close attention throughout the LP to these details, BUT most tellingly if you had an Easy Type ROM, it says "Easy Type" on the title screen (see part 1), the Dev room was taken out and all of the secret passages have textures put over them like the US FFII.

They did the opposite with DMC3. The US and EU versions turned the Japanese Hard mode into the US and EU Normal version. That was changed with the special edition to make it less hard :)

FF4 DS isn't the original difficulty. It's actually harder. The original FF4 difficulty is in the PSP version (and the Euro GBA version.

Actually, the SNES version recieved in North America WAS the original "Hard" version of the game, despite what people belive.

@NintendoCapriSun Actually, Tim, the way I've understood it was that the first time the US got the "hard" version was in the Chronicles package (it came with Chrono Trigger). The DS version is just a somewhat more difficult version based on the fact that they used new mechanics, reduced the Gil and XP from monsters and increased the power and speed of most enemies. I, personally, have never gotten past Lugae in the DS version.

Hey Tim, it seems that in this version, Edge's techniques are all going to be kept in Romanized Japanese. That means that the 'A's are pronounced like 'ah', 'e' like 'eh', 'i' like the letter 'e', 'o' like a slightly softer letter 'o', and 'u' like the sound 'oo'.
