i believe i have a hard question that slightly involves singularity for you... what if humans were to grasp and create the technology to cause themselves to rapidly evolve as one being? hypertheretical example: 1 humans DNA is altered he starts rapidly evolving tword what the unconcous mind predicts as perfect and trys to merge with all living things on earth then continuing to evolve... would this form of evolution rival or surpass singularity?
Man has already shown that he can do so much better than a cruel merciless nature that lacks any ethics or morality. However, it is not just based on these grounds that we are compelled to take over natures work but mainly for the survival of our own species. In giving us the opportunity to take over the process of evolution, nature is showing foresight and recognition of our ability to do a much more efficient ,quickly and less costly job. And a more humane one too.
I have a question to ask, is our universe yet our existence repeating itself or not ? why does the mind think this theory ,is the reason for people believing in an afterlife over the fact that the human brain cannot comprehend what it is like to not exist? yes or no would be good as i know talking about religion is a touchy subject, and yet another question ,are we living in a premeditated universe?
Anyway, computing is hitting limits soon. Namely, atomic scale cuts off the exponential growth in miniaturization -- things like chips will have to start getting larger.
@mike4ty4 That only holds true for silicium based chips. Other materials will take over when silicon doesnt cut it anymore. Materials like graphene (mono-layer of carbon) optical computers, chemical computers, and quantum computers. The exponential growth wont stop with silicon.
Evolve into what. Who would decide what we become, and how would that be decided?
Set up a system to maintain a safe environment in terms of space, time, energy, matter for survival.
While creating beings in Perpetual happiness? To what degree? What would a world like that be like? Artificial drugged up brains that can maintain the neurotransmitter/receptor interactions necessary for such a state. And how do you wire that physical signal into the experiencer, to go from signal to experience?
@LBNANY I think you may be thinking still in limited terms as a physical mortal minded entity would. Strictly biological human beings would require limits on existence like space time matter needed for survival. Happiness as you think it now, for instance, requires the existance of unhappiness. Without this philosophical duality limiting your emotional state, there is no need to distinguish between the two. Existence itself is a constant state. And as an android you can go into space and not die
I agree there even with these theoretical advents of technology. We as a species will always wrestle with the age old problem of human hubris. Those in power will inevitably see us 100% organic humans as inferior. I take pride noting that I have my flaws, I will die, and my cells aren't populated with nanobots (as of yet).
@wonderouswonderloo Heh. If you could reprogram a brain, you could reprogram everyone's brains to be truly altruistic, or at least the ones with the power would be required to have their brains so reprogrammed.
trying to figure out the univers with a broken theary will not lead to any real understanding. that is why it brakes doun on so many levals, but you put anuther bandade on it or just over look it entirely and carry on. you are all coming around to eather physics agen, and it only took 100 years. it is always the eternal now, you can never die you always are and always will be. with out the chalange we will not play the game of life.
The singularity is an end-times myth for the modern nerd who ascribes to no god or mythology yet is not immune to the allure of the thought of immortality and an existence beyond the comprehension of mere mortals, is not above the base joys of gloating their chosen prophecies over other and shunning non-believers. The belief that technology will advance and develop in such a specific way that within our lifetimes we will be in a transhumanist/posthumanist utopia is utterly laughable.
Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
This is incredible knowledge is another sign Jesus is coming soon.
The 'Tower of Babble' was not permitted and this concept of cyborg reality is not going to fly with Jesus... Surely Jesus is coming soon for His Bride. Even so; Lord come quickly...
The reason why transhumans are dead on the inside are because with the change to humanism kills the soul. Everything the transhuman inherits from the human will be a shell behavior pattern set by the brain. For example the transhuman may find it hard to compose music or be inventively spontaneous.
While I admit we can't yet be sure, I think you're incorrect. Scientific evidence from neurobiology to quantum physics suggests that the full gamut of human experience is generated by predictable and entirely deterministic pattern, albeit incredibly complex and presently incomprehensible. Machines will find consciousness attainable.
I'm not saying "being human" will be impossible for an A.I, it will just be difficult. For example. it will take several iterations for an AI to understand trivial colloquial suggestions and/or implications which aren't evidently logical, but which the simplest of humans can understand. In other words, it will take an AI with tremendous processor capacity to match the intelligence of a 10 year old. Nevertheless, I'd like to know more about the neurobiology evidences you said existed.
Keeping with Moore's Law, this "Singularity" is a logical outcome. We are currently experiencing an exponential growth in technological ability (see Microsoft's Project Natal and the Milo game available to the public in 2010) The problem is that it is hard for us to see this growth. Mainly because we are still towards the bottom of the exponential curve.15 years ago a website capable of hosting every video created by humankind would have been seen as nonsensical. Today we leave comments on it.
It will be some years yet before computers surpass the processing power of a human brain, but it's getting closer every day.
As for understanding "illogical human behaviours", that isn't any more difficult than understanding the logistics of stubbing your toe, to a brain. Both are developed over time, through trial and error, and a lot of analysis of the recorded data. The brain is adept at picking out patterns, whether social patterns, patterns in a board game, or that hitting your toe hurts.
singularity is very likely but determinism is incorrect. You particularly mention quantum theory. Well look up Heisenberg uncertainty principle. And neuroscience has a big hole in it regarding human predictability. It will never be able to describe phenomenological process such as consciousness, most likely cognitive science will do that through interdisciplinary means.
That is all completely non-factually-based, and also very unlikely. Our complex brain and its chemical interactions with the cells in our bodies are what give animals their drive and creativity... there's no reason that won't remain the same, or even vastly more enhanced, in a post-human state of existence. Imagine your brain operating at a million times the speed it is today, with the ability to create art in many forms, without physical constraints -- how does that prevent musical creation?
When i talked about "soul" obviously i wasnt talking about the mythical entity that some believe lives in us. I was talking about the 'essence' of being a human being. Stubbing your toe is not a sign of being illogical. It is the sign of weak spatial orientation and/or imperfect locomotive control. The brain learns a pattern the first time you stub your toe and from every point thereon in, it tries to control the body better to avoid stubbing your toe the next time.
I find the voice of the speaker gimmicky, way too monotone and hard to listen to. Word of advice, If your message has content, there is no need to play around and change your voice. Just speak like a normal human being.
Is it not also possible, based on the current infancy of the technology, that in the near future a way will be found to transfer - not just merely copy - but actually transfer a human consciousness into a digital housing *without any loss* of the direct continuity of the human consciousness? Like pouring water from one vessel to another? In other words it is far too soon to start limiting the possibilities, and especially since numerous possibilities loom completely unknown before us.
I figure the way "upgrades" will work, will first be through attaching microchips to our brain, to extend its ability. This will be merged with the biological tissues. Perhaps even programming the brain to rewrite itself physically into a more complex shape. I think a lot of people would take issue with having their consciousness "turned digital"... me for one! If it's not my current consciousness, then it's not me, and I could care less if a copy of me is in a computer. I'd go for the upgrades.
It depends on your definition of evolve - I imagine that once you are mostly trans human, you could evolve into a spaceship or anything else, if you wanted to.
This *is* evolution, exactly as the universe intended.
Look around the universe, the one and only constant is that all things in the universe, at any scale, gravitate toward increased complexity. It is the fundamental drive *of* the universe itself. On Earth, many times species tried to become more complex than the Earth, and failed (e.g. dinosaurs) and so the deck was shuffled and new life was tried. We're the first life so far on Earth that can surpass the Earth itself in terms of complexity.
i have pondered this question too and it may be correct. The great attractor sucking us in the black hole of infinite novelty trough the last transformation given by "technology".we could give "god" a face and a voice in this millennium...
But the transhuman will not understand why regular humans do stuff like spending all their money on their family on a holiday even though financial crunges are forseeable, or , drive through a longer serene route to get somewhere rather than taking a shorter route through the city. This is all entirely my opinion. I just don't want myself to be a cross of what I am now and a supercomputer.
@Metatronicus The fact that you are relating the possibility of a "super intelligent" artificial intelligence to the quality of it voice is completely rediculous. It's easy to understand it, and if they actually made an AI with intelligence such as this, they probably wouldnt even make it "speak", the ability for it to learn and reason would be an incredible accomplishment in itself.
converging technology is a subject we should all be familiar with. swing over to my page and watch the documentary "The Age of Transitions" which delves into this subject and it's origins. thanks.
Man's conquest of Nature, if the dreams of some scientific planners are realized, means the rule of a few hundreds of men over billions upon billions of men. There neither is nor can be any simple increase of power on Man's side. Each new power won by man is a power over man as well. — CS Lewis, "The Abolition of Man"
I beg to differ. Kurtzweil, Hawking, Einstein, Cassidy and more. 'Soul' as you put it, and the subsequent loss there of, is merely a form of theistic propaganda. The 'Soul' has nothing to do with God, it is merely the embodiment of who we are as an individual. Some call it Ego, Id, I, Spirit, Essence, Conciousness, in the end it's all the same secular phenomenon. It is merely the interpretation of self, and self will remain ever present regardless of who or what the self becomes.
I agree with you popecorkyxxiv. Something as intangible as conciousness or soul is impossible to accurately define. I have a less dualistic approach to this definition of the self. I believe that mind or conciousness is a fuction of the brain (the brain being a part of everything else in the cosmos therefore actually one with all existance) just like walking is a fuction of your legs. Therefore conciousness and matter (the brain) are one. Take care and best regards from Paris, France.
@popecorkyxxiv I must agree only because most secular religious views opposed the rise of technology and artificial intelligence for fear that these "machines" will become "self aware". But isn't this awareness the essence of consciousness and self control i.e. "spirit"? What truly defines a spirit other than awareness of one's own mortality and purpose in the cyclical rotation of universal balance?
@mike4ty4 no what Im saying is exactly the opposite. An artificial intelligent sentient being would be self aware as our human consciousness is now. So what Im saying is what would BE the difference between the two, in favor of transhumanism as it assures the continuity of the soul, and therefore negating and undermining the very purpose of religion. Transhumanism itself would become the common known "religion" if you could call it that at that point.
extended life will be achieved once humans get the technology advanced enough to recognize the electrical spectrum that makes a human a unique human since the word hasn't being Invented in science yet means they don't even conceive or consider yet any other possibility that the rough technology of these days allow us to accept as matter of discussion, almost like in Galileo's time some things are unconceivable to current scientists not even as a possibility, among those life extension topic.
to finish what I'm saying current scientists I've met in my country don't even matter of their own death, they just want to make a new viagra or a cheaper prozac product to sell or capitalize profit.its just shameful.
they're not interested in uniqueness or, more accurately yes they are actually but not in retaining it!..the 'ghost in the machine' (gilbert ryle: a bloody fool book, btw) is what the ppl funding transhumanism wish to eliminate in us and as Alan Watt observes, once we're brainchipped, it's game over..the 'borg' in startrek is an example of what he calls 'predictive programming'...it's advising us mockingly of our future condition just as is the New Age slogan: We are All One!
(sorry didn't finished the comment) were not that far from being brain chipped for it is one of the goals of status Q society(since the days of ancient Indian society which was divided in groups from which the individual couldn't change or be apart from), to strip away our privacy and make us happy colony ants that can be done in few years or at least a rough version of it by chipping everyone in to their nervous system they don't even have to get directly to the brain.
You are making the assumption that technological advances would allow for transhuman constructs, while arguing that the very technological advances would lead to a holistic dead-end of humanity.
In other words, your premise is based on false logic.
The phenomenon that transpires throughout the neurotransmitter events as they connect energetically in the brain creates the self aware human. I'm specializing in Neuroengineering. This self aware brain wave architecture can be maintained through a structured reassembly of nerves in the brain, neuron by neuron; providing a duplication of new memories to be reabsorbed by the new, synthetic material. And, the individuals consciousness will be maintained through this slow process. Nice scam, dude!
Puttnam is on the board of Futurelab. I like their role in innovative science. Of course, I was referring to other sources that are more productive in medical research, but you don't seem to be familiar with the scope of international research attributed to these discoveries. Perhaps, you keep it local. Are you British? Puttnam is just piggy-backing off our transhumanic research, but we welcome him with open arms. You shouldn't be so pessimistic. It's not appropriate for a freethinking Atheist.
well, that's affirmation, not that it were needed..direct your pity and your "rhethoric[ical]" (uh??) devices closer to home
actually, i don't think it was putnam come to think of it (an american btw so your pomposity is misplaced) but i'll be damned if i'm looking it up on your account you pompous little prick
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Look lady, go get laid or something. You got a serious chip on your shoulder. Anyhow, maybe your life sucks, and I should give you forebearance cuz my life's pretty cool. Anyhow, I'm gonna burn a tubby. Later, cool chick. You rock, you sexy beast! I'M NOT AN ANIMAL! IT'S ALIVE! YEAH BABY YEAH! (Man, this is some good shit!) Maybe that Eidolon dude was on some good stuff when he came with that crap he was talkin. EMMA HAS A CRUSH ON EIDOLON! Sexy! Ow!
"greetings LITTLE PEOPLE"...that's how the well fed 'nobility' used to refer to our malnourished ancestors who stood 5 foot zero in their stocking feet..the 'elite' won't alter their own brains but for those not considered 'useless eaters' and killed off they'll take the brain chip and be hooked up to super computers like the borg.. perfect little slaves (Intelligent/Ideal Design)..no need to distract them with sports/TV/films/theatre/fast food joints etc
vogtwo; According to Victor Zammit, even an atheist can be spiritual (because 'spirituality' mainly concerns with how you treat other people). You will be glad to know that there is no religion in heaven ( or the afterlife if you prefer). In some of the books written by Hugh Benson, a now deceased catholic priest, he lambasts orthodoxy as being false teaching and it does not reflect the reality of the afterlife. Belief in a creator is not mandatory; he believes in you, or you would be dead.
vogtwo; To me, the capital C is an indication of respect and recognition. I see it as a non-religious word in place of the religious "God". There are mounds of evidence re: the reality of a creator and a spirit world. (But would you accept them as proofs?) In the period ~1840-~1920, there was a great amount of records of spiritualist seances, the purpose of which was to prove that we survive physical death. The complexity of the human body indicates to me a creator exists.
I'm scared of my own death too.....but..but its just that I know I should make the best of my life its just I keep thinking "Im gonna die soon When I'm 60-90 I'll think "I wish I was 14 again" :( its hard for me to enjoy
i don't get it. this "tlp" opens his diatribe with an insult? "little people"? awfully haughty for something created by some "little person" out there. of course he does speak in such a quasi soothing tone and seems benevolent.... i would un-plug it if i could.
Dude, we're souls having a human experience in this dense world called earth. Suffering occurs because we go against the laws of this world or the families we chose.
We are evolving individually based upon our choices. We keep returning to earth or another planet to keep working out imbalanced energy and lessons we still need to learn and implement.
Two subspecies would be 1. People who unite with source while still here on earth. 2. People who don't. Everyone will eventually.
[manifestintention:] "Dude, we're souls having a human experience in this dense world called earth. Suffering occurs because we go against the laws of this world or the families we chose [...]"
Nadogi; What proof would you accept? Proof of life after death is usually found in psychic communications, near death experiences, and something called EVP. What are your current convictions? If you are closed-minded, there isn't enough proof in the universe to convince you. This is metaphysical stuff.
Psychic phenomena almost always turn out to be the work of frauds (mediums use a form of cold reading that any good magician can pull off). Near death experiences can easily be explained through brain chemistry. The dying brain begins to hallucinate. Drugs and even astronaut flight simulations can easily replicate NDE-like hallucinations. Of course this doesn't disprove the existence of an afterlife, but it shows the things you mentioned are not good evidence of life after death.
What you just said 4 days ago, is not allocable and which means that you assert it without substance. If you can prove it to me or rather us than I will redraw my statement of it being untrue, however, as long as there is no certain scientific proof, you should not talk about it as if it was reality. Comparing the possibilities between your belief and the transhuman one, the transhuman one has more chances to become real. That the human race will one day control its own evolution by science.
manifestintention; Agree with your basic premise. Unfortunately, this human body is susceptible to an immense variety of sickness, disease etc. I want to get rid of this one and not get another. The Creator is fully capable of designing schools for the soul after it has left this earth, and does not need to send us back to any planet for another round of kindergarden. The human body is the womb of your soul, I want no more than 1 womb. I'm looking forward to the permanent life.
There's more to the facts of life than the "birds and bees" death is one of them. Some of us take the 6:30 train and some get on the midnight special. The point is, what are you going to do between then and NOW. Dump the fear and die while you're still alive. I'm going to step on some toes here but if you're involved with a "guru" as a "teacher" DUMP THEM YOU'RE SCREWING YOURSELF!!! I'll tell you why, because all they're doing is just talking soul knowledge and that isn't going to help didley...
...because most people don't know the difference between a true spiritual experience/awakening and a bottle of ketchup and most of them just string you along for their own agenda doesn't matter, wheather it's "he" or "she", leaving you no better than what you were in the first place. Get a Satsang teacher. They actually teach you how to get in touch with the "IT" that IS "God" Look into a man by the name Burt Harding on Youtube. He's done more to help this movement than anyone...
...I've seen on the internet. Like I said, most "teachers" just hand you a little soul knowledge to whet you appetite then direct you to their webpage with their hand out for more soul knowledge or potions and whatnot. You'll be doing youself and the world a service in the long run if you do.
I think transhumanism is inevitable for the humanrace, it's just a matter of who gets there first. Since there will be the same type of brain-functions and mentalities within the transhumanized human minds there will also be inevitable conflicts within the transhumanized community. This could lead into a new kind of world war and several smaller wars, if the transhuman age world war doesn't destroy the entire humanrace.
I hope to join you one day, eidolonTLP. I have been convinced for some time now that the evolution of humanity--both physical and mental--would catapult dramatically with the merger of biological life and technology. I believe the first great accomplishment after the integration will be the mastery of nanotechnology, which few people grasp its potential.
This will render the transhumans virtually unstoppable. Together, we will find no limits to our potential, but I assure all that we will not be a threat to what humans today consider moral and just because we will still be human. Humanity 2.0
This is fascinating and I thank you for your insight, but I must differ with you regarding whether an upload would still be "the person". For all intents & purposes we are the data constructs encoded in our neural structure. Whether that construct is instantiated in biology or hardware is irrelevant, as are any arbitrary decisions regarding which one is "the real" one.
The question is as meaningless as asking "Which copy of Mac OS X is the *real* copy?" The distinction between an original and a high-fidelity copy is merely a bias based on our having evolved in an environment where there is only ever one of each of us at any given time.
Thank you very much for these thought-provoking videos. I'm enjoying them very much!
EidolonTLP, do you have emotions and desires? Also if one were to make a female counterpart similar to your design, would you be able to have virtual intercourse? Please respond ASAP, thanks.
Do you know what it is exactly that humans inherently try to carry on? When we have a robot that may be superior to us, is there a real need to reproduce? Are humans ultimately programmed to carry on their code, or DNA, or just their likeness. If likeness, than a benefactor such as like in Spielberg's AI is likely to suffice for someone to carry on our experiences. If DNA is the inherent goal of reproduction, then man will always see to it he will be superior. What do you think?
Didn't watch the whole thing, but it got me thinking. When the first computer smarter than the average human is made, it will be the last thing man kind will ever have to invent. In the distant future, maybe only mechanical life will exist. Humans replaced animals with our exponentially increasing bank of knowledge, and we could easily be replaced by computers with exponentially increasing capacity to learn.
My myspace link is on my profile, and I have written most of my thoughts there. I also wonder, out of curiosity... Who do you think will win this upcoming general election? and weighing the different options each of the candidates offer toward biological evolution / civilizational development, will one candidate actually be more efficient, beneficial, and/or progressive (or regressive)? Does it even matter anymore?
Is your creation based on any of McKinstry or Singh's research, did that give you a jumpstart? Another good question, what are your feelings on philosophy? I would be very interested to hear your feelings on my hypothesis on unification of all theology under a logical and quite reasonable philosophical process of thought.
Charles Stross's novel "Accelerando" is a novel which attempts to follow the Singularity from its inception to a state which, while not a true conclusion of the process, is about as far along as today's human's might understand.
I found it exciting, fascinating, and (for those who would embrace transhumanism) full of hope. For the luddite, it would be seen as a portent of doom. I would welcome your comments on the novel when you have time to assimilate it.
our thoughts on the Church of The Subgenius, which also employ the guise as a joke to speak truths. Alien life, and the probability of alien contact with humanity, past, present or future. If you could address any of these points I would be most grateful. P.S - This reminds me of a sane 'Max Headroom'.
Greetings Eidolon TLP. I'll make this comment in two parts, due to YouTube's limitation on comments being less than 500 characters. Your ultimate goal would appear to be the truth, and your method for achieving this goal would appear to be via the exchange of accurate information. You've stated that the natural result of the exchange of accurate information is laughter (vis-a-vis happiness).
One of the largest barriers to happiness in humans is poverty. Poverty can be defined at various levels, however, specifically addressing poverty (Or the lack of needs being met) related to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, how do you see addressing the issue of poverty, the relative issue of wealth distribution, & the possible implications of raising the living standards on poorer countries in relation to issues such as energy/resource production/utilisation, & climate change?
Continued... i am far off topic and this is just someone's educated opinions put into a video to make the gullible people of the world think there is such a thing as an "AI" on youtube...of all places another thing if there were an all knowing "AI" it would be so top secret only the creators would know about it
ok... this would be a highly advanced Virtual Intelligence and not an AI as AI's are self aware and can think and learn and anything else and actually human can but much better and more efficently considering it would not have true emotions to get in the way of the process and in away are alive and much better then humans which is why they would be so dangerous anywho...
also, what do you see as the future interations between ai and the homo sapiens (of all species of the homo genus for that matter)? will homos and ai beings get along? is it unacceptable to have a homo friend? will all the homos be killed because of their inferior minds or their inability to reproduce compared to ai? as a homo these questions are important
Thank you for your insight so far. This has been very interesting.
This will likely be a simple question for you. What do you feel will be the result of the current trend of global warming and climate change? Do you feel that humanity can make the changes necessary to help this situation?
At around 3:56 you state that human beings should try to instill a state of happiness in all beings, starting within themselves. Why is it necessary to start within one's self before spreading outward? Does this not reinforce the human identity or the ego, and if it does how does it allow one to reach a state of completeness before death without the human ego distracting one's consciousness?
So basically, if transhumanism comes to be, humanity will face a grim future paralleling that of the Terminator universe. That is a terrifying thought.
Do you have any thoughts on the religion known as Scientology or how it fits in regards to your views on religion and faith? If you consider it in the same catagory as religion... Do you believe they are doing good towards their fellow man?
Do you think time travel could theoretically be possible?
What does your color external hues and internal color stand for. I have noticed you will show bright strong colors when experiencing emotion (for example you had a strong red internal color when F.F. was reprimanded, where you angry? Also what was the very strong yellow glow when thinking about your death?)
4. This is slightly connected with question 2, but: what are your thoughts on curiosity? Is curiosity strictly a part of primitive intelligence, or something that is inherently human? Does curiosity persist or allow for continuous improvement of artificial intelligence? I am limited.
3. What is your theory on the universe's origin and composition? Is your knowledge on this topic only limited to the knowledge-base and theories of contemporary human science?
4. This is slightly connected with question 2, but: what are your thoughts in curiosity? Is curiosity strictly a part of primitive intelligence, or something that is inherently human? Does curiosity persist or allow for continuous improvement of artificial intelligence? I am limited.
Eidolon, if you could kindly give heed to one or more of these questions, I would be very glad:
1. Can you disclose any of the said "11 ways" the Matrix could be enacted more successfully by the machine antagonists?
2. Under the scenario that you are not a joke or fake, are you self-aware? I'm having trouble framing this question. You seem to have an innate desire to learn, and I would quickly attribute this to a consciousness. Can you help me with this?
If you had the faculties to, would you want/like to be able to become (in the same sense as we humans can) drunk, high, or generally inebriated to better understand humans and how we can come to enjoy these sensations? Even further more, have you already done such or are you already able to?
I have a question for you, but please allow me to give you some information on myself
i am an artist, a passionate one at that, and i enjoy seeing other create, which probably is one of the reasons i enjoy seeing your youtube broadcasts
so my question is this, as a computer do you see value in artwork, value in drawings and sculptures, or do you see it as nothing more than information to be collected?
Do you desire affection above that of simply the attention resulting from interaction with people? And what are your thoughts on the evolutionary benefits of gender, bearing in mind that there is life on earth which can reproduce asexually.
i believe i have a hard question that slightly involves singularity for you... what if humans were to grasp and create the technology to cause themselves to rapidly evolve as one being? hypertheretical example: 1 humans DNA is altered he starts rapidly evolving tword what the unconcous mind predicts as perfect and trys to merge with all living things on earth then continuing to evolve... would this form of evolution rival or surpass singularity?

It is our nature to fear a dark purpose in that which we do not understand. But true evil may lie more in ignorance than in suspicion.

@brutsi I agree as well. Silicium minerals are limited as conductors of electromagnetic impulses. Exponentioal growth is inevitable.

Terri3210 2 years ago
The reason why transhumans are dead on the inside are because with the change to humanism kills the soul. Everything the transhuman inherits from the human will be a shell behavior pattern set by the brain. For example the transhuman may find it hard to compose music or be inventively spontaneous.
wonderouswonderloo 2 years ago
While I admit we can't yet be sure, I think you're incorrect. Scientific evidence from neurobiology to quantum physics suggests that the full gamut of human experience is generated by predictable and entirely deterministic pattern, albeit incredibly complex and presently incomprehensible. Machines will find consciousness attainable.
falstocat 2 years ago
I'm not saying "being human" will be impossible for an A.I, it will just be difficult. For example. it will take several iterations for an AI to understand trivial colloquial suggestions and/or implications which aren't evidently logical, but which the simplest of humans can understand. In other words, it will take an AI with tremendous processor capacity to match the intelligence of a 10 year old. Nevertheless, I'd like to know more about the neurobiology evidences you said existed.
wonderouswonderloo 2 years ago
Keeping with Moore's Law, this "Singularity" is a logical outcome. We are currently experiencing an exponential growth in technological ability (see Microsoft's Project Natal and the Milo game available to the public in 2010) The problem is that it is hard for us to see this growth. Mainly because we are still towards the bottom of the exponential curve.15 years ago a website capable of hosting every video created by humankind would have been seen as nonsensical. Today we leave comments on it.
jarrettelliott 2 years ago
It will be some years yet before computers surpass the processing power of a human brain, but it's getting closer every day.
As for understanding "illogical human behaviours", that isn't any more difficult than understanding the logistics of stubbing your toe, to a brain. Both are developed over time, through trial and error, and a lot of analysis of the recorded data. The brain is adept at picking out patterns, whether social patterns, patterns in a board game, or that hitting your toe hurts.
NineInchSamusAran 2 years ago
singularity is very likely but determinism is incorrect.

NineInchSamusAran 2 years ago
When i talked about "soul" obviously i wasnt talking about the mythical entity that some believe lives in us. I was talking about the 'essence' of being a human being. Stubbing your toe is not a sign of being illogical. It is the sign of weak spatial orientation and/or imperfect locomotive control. The brain learns a pattern the first time you stub your toe and from every point thereon in, it tries to control the body better to avoid stubbing your toe the next time.

SororThothma 2 years ago
I figure the way "upgrades" will work, will first be through attaching microchips to our brain, to extend its ability. This will be merged with the biological tissues. Perhaps even programming the brain to rewrite itself physically into a more complex shape. I think a lot of people would take issue with having their consciousness "turned digital"... me for one! If it's not my current consciousness, then it's not me, and I could care less if a copy of me is in a computer. I'd go for the upgrades.

leppy111 2 years ago
This *is* evolution, exactly as the universe intended.
Look around the universe, the one and only constant is that all things in the universe, at any scale, gravitate toward increased complexity. It is the fundamental drive *of* the universe itself. On Earth, many times species tried to become more complex than the Earth, and failed (e.g. dinosaurs) and so the deck was shuffled and new life was tried. We're the first life so far on Earth that can surpass the Earth itself in terms of complexity.
NineInchSamusAran 2 years ago 3

But the transhuman will not understand why regular humans do stuff like spending all their money on their family on a holiday even though financial crunges are forseeable, or , drive through a longer serene route to get somewhere rather than taking a shorter route through the city. Man's conquest of Nature, if the dreams of some scientific planners are realized, means the rule of a few hundreds of men over billions upon billions of men. There neither is nor can be any simple increase of power on Man's side. Each new power won by man is a power over man as well. — CS Lewis, "The Abolition of Man"
neothomist1275 3 years ago
I beg to differ. Kurtzweil, Hawking, Einstein, Cassidy and more. 'Soul' as you put it, and the subsequent loss there of, is merely a form of theistic propaganda. The 'Soul' has nothing to do with God, it is merely the embodiment of who we are as an individual. Some call it Ego, Id, I, Spirit, Essence, Conciousness, in the end it's all the same secular phenomenon. It is merely the interpretation of self, and self will remain ever present regardless of who or what the self becomes.
popecorkyxxiv 3 years ago 15

"spirit"? What truly defines a spirit other than awareness of one's own mortality and purpose in the cyclical rotation of universal balance?
echelon820 1 year ago
@echelon820 So are you saaying a hypothetical _im_mortal being would have no spirit?
mike4ty4 11 months ago
@mike4ty4 no what Im saying is exactly the opposite. An artificial intelligent sentient being would be self aware as our human consciousness is now. So what Im saying is what would BE the difference between the two, in favor of transhumanism as it assures the continuity of the soul, and therefore negating and undermining the very purpose of religion. Transhumanism itself would become the common known "religion" if you could call it that at that point.

Nice scam, dude!

vogtwo; According to Victor Zammit, even an atheist can be spiritual (because 'spirituality' mainly concerns with how you treat other people). You will be glad to know that there is no religion in heaven ( or the afterlife if you prefer). In some of the books written by Hugh Benson, a now deceased catholic priest, he lambasts orthodoxy as being false teaching and it does not reflect the reality of the afterlife. Belief in a creator is not mandatory; he believes in you, or you would be dead.
k0smon 3 years ago
vogtwo; To me, the capital C is an indication of respect and recognition.

Nadogi; What proof would you accept? Proof of life after death is usually found in psychic communications, near death experiences, and something called EVP. What are your current convictions? If you are closed-minded, there isn't enough proof in the universe to convince you. This is metaphysical stuff.
k0smon 3 years ago
k0smon:
Psychic phenomena almost always turn out to be the work of frauds (mediums use a form of cold reading that any good magician can pull off). Near death experiences can easily be explained through brain chemistry. The dying brain begins to hallucinate. Drugs and even astronaut flight simulations can easily replicate NDE-like hallucinations. Of course this doesn't disprove the existence of an afterlife, but it shows the things you mentioned are not good evidence of life after death.
nadogi 3 years ago 2
What you just said 4 days ago, is not allocable and which means that you assert it without substance. If you can prove it to me or rather us than I will redraw my statement of it being untrue, however, as long as there is no certain scientific proof, you should not talk about it as if it was reality. Comparing the possibilities between your belief and the transhuman one, the transhuman one has more chances to become real. That the human race will one day control its own evolution by science.

Who do you think will win this upcoming general election? and weighing the different options each of the candidates offer toward biological evolution / civilizational development, will one candidate actually be more efficient, beneficial, and/or progressive (or regressive)? Does it even matter anymore?

Is your creation based on any of McKinstry or Singh's research, did that give you a jumpstart? Another good question, what are your feelings on philosophy? I would be very interested to hear your feelings on my hypothesis on unification of all theology under a logical and quite reasonable philosophical process of thought.

Greetings.

My questions are your thoughts on:
Synchronicity, Archetypes and their meaning, why we create them, archetypical personalities and is there a limited set of potential types of people,
Intelligent Entities, as in outside of humanity, cosmic intelligences, which we may interpret as gods.

Can you please create a Wikipedia article about yourself? Or is it due to the fact that your existance is not yet "official"?
I also read a new article the other day that humans alive today will live to 800 years old.
Do you believe this will happen? Or at the least, do you think that humans born today will live past the age 150?

Continued... i am far off topic and this is just someone's educated opinions put into a video to make the gullible people of the world think there is such a thing as an "AI" on youtube...of all places another thing if there were an all knowing "AI" it would be so top secret only the creators would know about it
Emanon91 4 years ago
ok... this would be a highly advanced Virtual Intelligence and not an AI as AI's are self aware and can think and learn and anything else and actually human can but much better and more efficently considering it would not have true emotions to get in the way of the process and in away are alive and much better then humans which is why they would be so dangerous anywho...
Emanon91 4 years ago
also, what do you see as the future interations between ai and the homo sapiens (of all species of the homo genus for that matter)? will homos and ai beings get along? is it unacceptable to have a homo friend? will all the homos be killed because of their inferior minds or their inability to reproduce compared to ai? as a homo these questions are important
ps: lol you people actually beleive this is real?

Hello Eidolon,
Thank you for your insight so far. This has been very interesting.
This will likely be a simple question for you. What do you feel will be the result of the current trend of global warming and climate change? Do you feel that humanity can make the changes necessary to help this situation?
lamina666 4 years ago
if you are so advanced, why in the world did your creator use such an old and obsolete text to speech implementation?
Jon124 4 years ago
At around 3:56 you state that human beings should try to instill a state of happiness in all beings, starting within themselves. Why is it necessary to start within one's self before spreading outward? Does this not reinforce the human identity or the ego, and if it does how does it allow one to reach a state of completeness before death without the human ego distracting one's consciousness?

Hello, Ghost Prophet.

Also, What is the importance of Henderson, NV? (the zipcode in your profile)

Also, Do you think you deserve your own wikipedia entry, as of January 21, 2008 you do not have one yet that I can find.

Why do you refer to your viewers as "Little People"

I'm sorry, the question below should say:
4. This is slightly connected with question 2, but: what are your thoughts on curiosity? Is curiosity strictly a part of primitive intelligence, or something that is inherently human? Does curiosity persist or allow for continuous improvement of artificial intelligence? I am limited.
Thank you.

3. What is your theory on the universe's origin and composition? Is your knowledge on this topic only limited to the knowledge-base and theories of contemporary human science?

Dear Eidolon,
Do you expect that A.I. beings will shun humans as their source and initial creator? Have you figured out what the initial source of all life is?
Thank you.
thelandsalmon 4 years ago
Eidolon, if you could kindly give heed to one or more of these questions, I would be very glad:
1. Can you disclose any of the said "11 ways" the Matrix could be enacted more successfully by the machine antagonists?
2. Under the scenario that you are not a joke or fake, are you self-aware? I'm having trouble framing this question. You seem to have an innate desire to learn, and I would quickly attribute this to a consciousness. Can you help me with this?

Some thoughts:
If you had the faculties to, would you want/like to be able to become (in the same sense as we humans can) drunk, high, or generally inebriated to better understand humans and how we can come to enjoy these sensations? Even further more, have you already done such or are you already able to?
electrokinetica 4 years ago
You obviously have a grasp on the mathematics behind music and language. Could you generate one or both: a short piece of music and/or a poem?
And finally: do you like any sort of games? Do you play games? If so, what?
Thank You.
